About

She had a ribbon he gave her
A soft one to hold back her hair
She had a ribbon he gave her
It was the one thing she'd always wear
She had a ribbon he gave her
He gave it to her in her hospital bed
And the image of the way her eyes lit up
Would forever be stuck in his head
She had a ribbon he gave her
On it, time took it's affect
No longer was it new
And it's far from perfect
She had a ribbon he gave her
It was frayed on the end
It hung tattered in her hair
But she never let any ridicule sink in
She had a ribbon he gave her
She loved the dark green threads
She never went anywhere with out it
And she lovingly called it Fred.
She had a ribbon he gave her
She thought it brought good luck
But the ribbon didnt help
When she was hit by a truck
She had a ribbon he gave her
It hung loose in his hand
He couldnt believe this was happening
He was loosing her again
She had a ribbon he gave her
He dropped it when he was rushed out
He paced for hours on end
She was the only one he thought about
She had a ribbon he gave her
A nurse held it in her gloves
She knew what the old worn string meant
And gave it back to the one he loved
She had a ribbon he gave her
She could feel it under her fingers
She was asleep when he walked in
But her smile still lingered
