~Personality~
Opinionated, controlling at times, a bit accident prone, energetic, up beat, clueless, dedicated, loyal, out spoken and free spirited. Bal Dat is a thief by nature, and a child at heart. He’s honest spoken, but makes a living being dishonest… truly, a double sided young man. He does what he wants, when he wants… but never hurts people, never kills, and never takes from those already ‘less fortunate’. He always speaks his mind, not thinking much before he acts or says things, yet tends to over think and worry about small issues at times when it comes to planning a heist. Willing to go through with things he’s put his mind to, even if it may seam hopeless. And despite his prowess with his Duel-Racket, prefers staying away from danger wherever possible, and so usually ends up running away from confrontations. This is ironic, considering how much he loves living on the edge. In the end, he may be a bit cowardice in the face of danger and possible death, but he’s loyal, and will never leave his friends behind… no matter what! His friends are most definitely his strength, for in them, he is able to find courage within himself. And, though he won’t admit it even to himself, has a fear of being alone. At first glance, Bal Dat could seem to most a shallow, dishonest brat with no regard for others. But, for those few that know him well enough… its clear that he really does care about life, and has a good heart… even if he can be a bit obsessive at times. Beneath that oddball thief exterior… is the soul of a kind person.

~History/Story~
Bal Dat, though raised a Selkie, is actually the last survivor of a forgotten civilization from an eastern continent whose people died out when their crystal lost its power. His family some how made it across the ocean, only to parish just before their journeys end… save Bal Dat, who barely escaped death himself. Only a small child at the time, he was rescued by a group of caravaners from Tida. Unfortunately, soon after being taken in by these people, their caravan was attacked, and never made it home. Bal Dat, having narrowly escaped death twice now, had a fortunate chance encounter with a certain striped moogle he would come to know very well as a close friend… Artemecion, or Arty as he’s known, ran into Bal Dat soon after the Tida caravan was destroyed. They teamed up, and after making it to the next town, hunger and thirst now threatened them both. It was then, that Bal Dat met someone who would end up influencing his life from then on… a young Selkie thief named Ryu Tai. Ryu Tai taught Bal Dat how to survive in the harsh world, how to fight, how to collect Myrrh, and… how to steal. The two became very close, and Ryu Tai soon became the father Bal Dat never had. After some time, they met an older Selkie named Meh Gaj, who retained a lot of spirit in his old age. They took him in, since he had no where else to go, and he became a part of their group from then on. It was after this incident that Ryu Tai finally officially formed the group of thieves called… The Striped Brigands. He was the leader, and Bal Dat his second in charge, with a go to moogle, and an older underling, the team seemed to be growing at a steady rate, and Ryu Tai, for the first time in his life, was happy not being alone, to have friends, and the prospect of what was to come for them all was exiting, and this feeling spread throughout the group… but most of all, it inspired Bal Dat, who at this point wanted to be just like Ryu Tai. Bal Dat finally had a family, a goofy grandpa, a lil brother in the form of Arty, and a father… But all their dreams for the future were short lived, and everything came crashing down when a fateful day fell upon them. The law finally caught up with them, and during a small heist in Aliftaria, Ryu Tai, the heart and soul of the Striped Brigands, was captured by the Royal Kights, and taken away to be imprisoned. Bal Dat and the others never saw him again, and the Striped Brigands had lost their leader. And so, Bal Dat fallowed in his footsteps, and carried on his memory. At the age of 13, he led the Striped Brigands with all his mentor had taught him, as best he could. But the fire was gone, and without Ryu Tai to guide them, Bal Dat found it hard to keep them alive. Stuck with an old man and a moogle who dreamt of stardom to take care of, and also seemingly unable to find anyone else to join their now flimsy gang… Bal Dat felt Ryu Tai’s memory fading away. But he refused to let his dream die so easily, and thus became determined to make the Striped Brigands known through out the world, and carry on Ry Tai’s, and now his own, dreams of freedom. Sadly, less then a year later, Meh Gaj, or Gramps as he’d come to be called, died protecting Bal Dat from an attacking monster. It hit Bal Dat hard, it all seemed to be falling apart, everyone around him, his friends, the only family he’d ever really known, were one by one being taken away… Now, Bal and Arty… were all that remained. He didn’t know if he could bear losing Arty, and inadvertently developed a morbid fear of being alone. But he stayed true to his word, and continued fallowing Ryu Tai’s example. Some five years later, he and Arty both continued Ryu Tai’s legacy, and strived to keep his spirit alive, making known through out the land of the Striped Brigands! Until an unfortunate twist of fate on the open seas led to the pair getting separated. Their ship had run into a storm, and sunk to the seabed bellow, Bal narrowly escaped death yet again, waking up the next morning a total mess. He’d washed up on shore, cold, injured… and alone. The next few days were a blur, but when he came too fully, he found a beautiful young woman had rescued him, and been nursing him back to health. He was a bit taken by her, this mysterious fair blond with eyes as blue as a cloudless sky. She also seemed so familiar… and it wasn’t until he heard her name he remembered her… Zariah, the young Selkie from years ago they’d kept running into on the road, back before Meh Gaj passed away. Yes, he still remembered her, quite well in fact, which was a bit odd for him. As it turned out, she had also been separated with her old childhood friend, Talon, and was all alone just like him. The two teamed up after that, both in search of lost friends, both looking for their past, as well as a future to call their own. Now a young man of 20, he and Zariah travel the new world as the miasma fades into nothing more then a memory, ever strong of heart as they brave the unknown ahead.
