“What’s your name?” A high pitched voice asked. A smiling dirty blond haired girl was leaning over staring, with large green eyes full of curiosity, at a boy who was sitting alone. She had a bright happy smile that could make anyone happy, but it seemed her smiled wasn’t working this time.

“Leave me alone,” The irritated brown haired boy. He didn’t look at her, being to busy poking a small beetle with a twig. “Why did you come over here anyways?”

“Because you looked lonely,” She stated standing up strait brushing her black sorts off and sat beside him. “Why are you out here?”

“Because I wanted to be alone.” He grumbled standing up, he glanced at her slowly his plain brown eyes were sad. The back of his brown pants were coated in grass and dirt, patting it off slowly he started to walk away.

“Wait for me!” The green eyed girl squealed, stumbling up and after him. “My names Jade,” her large smile returned hoping for an answer.

“That’s nice,” The boy mumbled.

Jade ignored his answer and continued to talk, “How old are you? I’m nine, well almost.” She giggled.

He looked at her, “I’m… ten.” He whispered.

Jade graved his arm excitedly, “Lets play!”

“O-okay,” The boys attitude seemed to change suddenly, “No ones really asked me to play…”

“Come on no name!” She laughed letting go and started to run her arms spread out as if she was a plane.

“I do have a name,” He half laughed. “Its Ivan!” he yelled running after her.

*~*~*~*

Jade had dragged him to a creek nearby, a bunch of little minnows swam away the second they neared, Jade laughed slipping her sandals off and stepped into the shallow cool water.

He looked at her, “Jade? Where do you live? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you before.”

She looked back at him and smiled, “I’ve never seen you before either. I live with my mama and papa. We just got here.” She said kicking the water up getting water onto her worn out black shorts and blue shirt. “I just found this area recently. What about you Ivan? How long have you lived here?”

“Since I was born I guess.” He looked at the water and kicked off his shoes and walked over into the water, cupping some up and splashed her in the face and laughed.

Jade gasped an shivered, “What was that for?” She asked quickly and splashed water at him, causing his to fall backwards spooked, and laughed.

Ivan splashed more water at her and stood up starting to run in the water, Jade gave chase bending over splashing water. He stopped and turned around. The hour poured away to giggles and splashing water at each other.

“Ivan,” Jade shivered slowly. “I’m done, I’m cold.” He nodded, agreeing, and started to walk out, but was stuck on something. Jade had her little hand clutching his shirt. “T-thank you,” She said softly, “This is the most fun I have had ever.” She smiled.

He looked down blushing, “Its nothing, no one ever talks to me so today was the best day for me too.” His words came slow and shyly.

Jade laughed lightly running out of the water getting her sandals, “You’re funny Ivan. I’m going to go home, lets play again soon okay?” She asked.

Ivan nodded instantly a large childish grin on his face, “We should have do this everyday!” He said seriously.

“Okay,” Jade giggled again, “I’ll see you tomorrow then, Ivan.” With that she ran off up the small bank and was out of sight.

Ivan walked to to his shoes pulling them on slowly. His blushed skin was still pink. He walked slowly home not able to wait for the next day to come so he could play again. The whole way home his mind was thinking of her, Jade, the girl who opened the door.

*~*~*~*

The next few days went on like the first, the two would race out without a word of where they were going and meet up at the tree they deemed, ‘HQ.’ Everyday was like a blessing to Ivan. His days full of loneliness, were now occupied by someone who considered him something important. A slight crush possibly?

That question was answered one day, he sat under the tree waiting like normal. But this time a pile of petals and stems sat to the side of him. In his hand was a daisy, but nearly all its petals were ripped off. In his lap was one more daisy ready to be plucked apart.

“She loves me… She loves me not… She loves me,” He smiled puling the last petal off and dropped it aside picking up the next just to get the same results again. A soft breeze blew his hair back and ruffled his blue shirt and brown shorts.

“What’s that?” The same voice that he first heard. Jade stood in front of him giggling. She was in a blue sundress that went to her shins. A large straw hat, with a large pink ribbon tired around it, sat on her head threatened to be blown away by the wind.

He instantly hid the flower behind his back, “It’s… it’s… for you!” He stuck the limp flower out quickly smiling.

Jade hesitated then took it smiling. She pulled her straw hat off placing the flower under the ribbon and put the hat back on, “Thanks.” She smiled sweetly, causing Ivan to blush and smile back.

*~*~*~*

Days went on and on. Ivan always brought something small for Jade every day. Either a flower he saw or a slice of cake. This time he held a brown box. He sat waiting, the hour went by slowly but still she hadn’t come. It wasn’t until the sun was nearly set that she ran down the little hill into veiw. Her face streaked with tears and red.

“Are you okay?” Ivan said standing up quickly.

Jade nodded slowly, “I tripped on the way here.” She flat out lied but he believed her.

“I got you something,” He held the box out to her and opened it. A kind a raged rabbit doll sat in there, its little head tipped to one side, the long ears dangled on either side of the head. It was clothed in a simple hand made white dress, a small cotton ball tail showed where the hem cut off. The eyes were made from stitches and the mouth in a sad frown. It was quiet obvious it was homemade and old. “My mama made this for my sister long a lot, but she doesn’t want her any longer. She was going to be thrown away, but I‘d like you to have her, the box in her home..” He smiled.

Jade took it for a moment and burst into tears again rubbing her eyes with her free hand, “She’s nice Ivan, but…” She sniveled loudly, “I can’t take her. I’m leavening Ivan.”

“What do you mean? You just got here,” He said quickly, his heart breaking slowly. The box tumbled from his hands and landed with a soft thump on the ground.

“My… papa said we have to leave again…” She cried softly handing him the doll back, “I’m sorry Ivan.”

“Will we see each other again?” He asked holding the limp doll silently trying not to cry himself.

She nodded quickly, “Of course. I’ll come back.” She smiled slightly. “I promise okay?”

He also nodded smiling a jagged quivering smile. “Okay,” He whispered.

“Okay then, bye Ivan.” She turned and started to run tears still ran down her face as disappeared into the dark.

Chapter 2

Eight years later

“It doesn’t look like its changed much…” an older girl smiled, as she stepped off the train into semi-familiar land, a messenger bag slipped off her shoulder and landed on the ground with a thump, “Well I guess I wouldn’t remember much.” She laughed lightly. She slowly stepped off the train’s platform. A soft breeze blew her long hair around. She wore a pair of loose fitting jeans and a light blue sleeveless shirt. She took a deep breath, “Ah! The air here is so fresh! Now where do I go…” She mumbled and turned around picking up her almost forgotten bag and dig around for a slip of paper, “Here you are…”

She started to unfold it when a gust of wind came up, ripping the slip of paper brutally from her hand, “Wait!” She gasped and started after it, but stopped to grab her bag then follow after it. “Oh course this’ll happen to me…” She wined. Every time she got close another gust would bow it away, “come on you piece of crap… be nice please…” She cooed nicely at she neared it again. A gust came again, but she already had her hands on it, “Ha take that!” She called triumphantly. She blinked and looked around thankful no one was around to see her act. “Thank god there’s no one here…” She looked around. “But where am I?”

She looked around, and sighed, “Nothing… here looks the same…” A soft babbling brook cut threw the soft sounds of birds in a large tree. “Hmm.” The girl mumbled and opened her messenger bag. After a few minuets of intense searching to found what she was looking for. She pulled out a green cell phone, a frog charm hung off the antenna. Flipping it open she cursed under her breath, “No service… lovely… just my luck!” She looked around again. “Which way… which way?!”

“Are you new around here?” A kind masculine voice broke the girl’s angry rage, “You don’t look to familiar.”

The girl turned around quickly, “Yes… yes I am I’m sorry…” Her voice trailed off slowly. /Who is this guy…??/ She bowed her head pathetically, “I just got here… I came to live in my uncles old apartment…”

The boy rubbed his brown hair with a hand, “Well… I’ve lived here all my life so I’d be more then happy to help you. What’s the address?” he walked over slowly.

She held out the slip, “This is it, thank you so much.” She looked up and smiled at him. He wore a pair of blue pants and a white t-shirt with a thin black sleeveless vest over it.

“I live in the same complex, it‘s close to the prep school,” he smiled. “Follow me.”

“You go to prep school? That’s why I’m here.” She said excitedly.

He looked at her and smirked, “how old are you? You hardly look old enough to be going into collage next year…”

The girl frowned, “I’m seventeen! I skipped my junior year… what about you!?”

He blinked, “I’m eighteen… If you were so smart to skip a grade why spend a year in prep school?”

“Because… I want too.” She turned away angrily.

“I’m sorry if I offended you…” He sighed. “So what’s your name?” He asked.

“Jade… I don’t like it to much…” She turned towards him again and smiled, “how about you? What is your name?”

“Ivan…” He said softly, staring at her, “come on I’ll show you where it is.” /Jade? Haven’t I heard that name before…?/

---

“This is the place.” Ivan pointed to the large place. The apartment block went up six levels. The hallways were built open.
(Reference: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f2/Park_Court_flats.jpg -cough- like that x.x -ish to lazy-)

“This is actual a really nice place. There’s a pool, a sauna, and a lot of other things.” Ivan added with a small smile.

“You live here alone?” Jade asked quickly.

He nodded, “Yeah… it’s a handle to pay for sometimes… but I like it here. So how are you paying for this?”

“Well… My uncle passed away a year ago and in his will he said I can live here when I go to prep school… It’s only paid off for a month or two… Then I have to pay for it myself…”

The two walked in, Jade looked around her so mystified by her new surroundings that she missed what Ivan said to her.

“Jade, hay? Are you there?” Ivan waved a hand in her face.

Nearly jumping out of her skin she grabbed his hand, “What was that for?!”

“You weren’t answering me…” he sighed.

“So sorry…” He shot him a glare, a smile coming to her face as they came to the small desk.

“I’m heading up to my room, I’ll talk to you later Jade.” He was gone quickly.

“Welcome to Forest Inn*.” A young lady smiled kindly. “I’ve been expecting you Miss. Jade. Your bags are already in you’re room, and here is your key. You’re on floor five and your number is three-hundred twenty six. I’m the caretaker and landlady. You can call me Miss. Landlady okay? If you ever need a job, I can always use the extra help.”

“Thank you very much.” Jade smiled holding her key and walked up the five flights of stairs, “twenty six… twenty six… here we are!” She smiled stopping at her door.

“Hey!” A voice caused her to jump again. Looking over to her left she saw Ivan, “Kinda ironic huh?”

She looked away, “Quit spooking me! It’s annoying…”

He sighed “Sorry… well if you need any help you know where you can find it.” He smiled heading back inside.

“It was like he was waiting for me… creep…” Jade shook her head quickly and headed in. “it’s a pigsty here!” She frowned. Dust covered every surface. “Not even a pig would live here…” she whined.

*Forest Inn is the name of the apartment complex. XP

Chapter 3

“Finally!” Jade fell back into her couch and looked around. After a few hours of cleaning she had finally gotten her new home at least, slightly, livable. She looked at her clock and sighed. “Its quiet…” She mumbled and sighed again.

It was a three room apartment. The living room was right inside from the entrance. The floor, like all the flooring in the apartment, was wooded free of scuffs and scratches. There was a quiet new couch and recliner chair, both faced a cabinet that housed a small TV. In front of the couch was a coffee table. The Kitchen was attached to the living room. It came with the necessities, a stove, cupboards, refrigerator, sink, a table to eat off, and tiled counter tops. Upon searching threw everything she found no food. She had a bathroom with a small shower, a toilet, another sink, more cupboards, and a mirror. Then there was her new room. It too only consisted of important things. A large bed, clean sheets, a dresser, which was now full with her clothing, and a closet.

“Ugh… I’m hungry…” She stood up, “Its not too late to find somewhere to eat…” Jade walked to the door and slid her shoes on. Opening the door she saw Ivan, “Hello…?”

He hand his hand up ready to knock, but now lowered it quickly, “Hello.” Ivan said embarrassed.

“So what do you want?” Jade looked at him narrow eyed.

“I’m assuming… you have no food.” He looked back at her with the same expression. “So I was coming over to see if you would like something to eat.”

“You cook?” Jade smiled.

“No… I haven’t had time, I’ve been finishing some report…” He suddenly smiled too. “But I know a dinner that’s opened…”

“Okay thanks… So when do classes start again*?” She asked stepping out and locked her door.

“A week, You’re lucky you missed the big starter reports… but now you’ll be running into worse things.” He smiled.

“Don’t remind me…” she smiled, “So this Prep School… dose it have a gym?” Jade asked softly.

“Yeah why?” He asked.

“No reason.” She smiled again, “Lets go. I’m starving!”

---

“Oh it all sounds so good!” Jade exclaimed looking threw the menu. “What do I want… what do I want…” she repeated.

Ivan looked up from his menu and stared at Jade. /Jade… why are you so familiar?/

“Okay! Got it.” She looked up with a large grin and blinked at Ivan, “What are you staring at? Creepy…”

“He looked away hiding behind his menu, “I was thinking. Sheesh…”

A waitress walked up, “So what dose the couple want?”

Both of them looked at her, “Couple?!” They exclaimed at once pointing to the other. “Not us…” they said at the same time and glanced at each other with a glare.

The waitress blinked, not expecting the outburst and coughed softly, “Well then… Can I take your order then?”

“Yes… I’d like a roast beef sandwich..” Ivan said simply. “French fries on the side please…”

“And you miss?” The waitress asked finishing Ivan’s simple order.

“Well… I’d like the sirloin stack, medium rare, with the mixed vegetables and rice… also can I have a chocolate milkshake?” She smiled.

“Sure…” The waitress left quickly.

“Milkshake? During dinner? You have strange taste…” Ivan shook his head.

“No!” She sighed, “it’s been forever since I’ve had a milkshake.” she looked out the window. “It gets dark here fast huh?”

“Yeah… so where did you live before?” Ivan asked softly.

“Well as a kid… I lived all over, I think we stopped here once… but it was with my uncle and only for a week…” She started looking back at him, “I can’t remember much… but after another year of traveling around, we finally settled down… I went to school but I’ve never made many friends. I guess I scared people away…” She sighed. “I was on all my high schools teams, but I didn’t talk to the girls I played with much. At home I sat alone in my room and read. Pathetic huh?”

Ivan shook his head, “Nah, you lived here once?” he asked again.

“Only for a week or so… not too long. Why?” Jade asked smiling.

“Did… you make any friends?” He asked softly.

“Umm… I can’t remember… I don’t think so… How about you? What was your child hood like?”

“Normal I guess.” He shrugged. “I had a decent amount of friends, played a few sports… normal things I guess.”

The waitress soon came with all there food, “Ooo This looks really good…!” She smiled. Ivan looked at her again then at his food.

---

“Thanks for showing me that place it was really yummy food.” She said at her door.

“I still can’t believe you finished all that food without getting sick…” Ivan laughed lightly

Jade’s face flushed red and she looked away, “I was hungry…”

“Umm… Hey… tomorrow would you like me to show you around town?” Ivan asked shyly.

“Yeah! Could you that’s be perfect! If I went alone, I’d probably get lost… Thanks Ivan. You’re really nice you know.”

Ivan smiled, “Yeah, okay. When you are ready tomorrow just come over.” he turned and went to his door going in. /God I made myself look so foolish! What a strange girl… Jade is…/

Jade nodded and went into her house, “Man look how late it is!” She frowned and stretched, “I’ll just take a shower in the morning…” with a large yawn she locked her door and wandered to her bedroom.

*She came during a brake, why so late. I don’t know XP
