Welcome to History of Magic

Greetings, and a welcome to History of Magic. I am Professor Tatsuko Kamikaze, and yes, it is a Japanese name, so put your hand down, and yes, I am a kitsune, so put your hand down. During this class, I will teach you about the history of magic, throughout the ages. Now, you may think that this just means England. It doesn't. I have observed that you have priorly been taught about Englands magical history of goblin rebellions, and been less then impressed. To rectify this situation, I will be teaching you about the magical history of Japan, America, England of course, and various other countries and their inhabitants. Follow the rules, (guild and gaia), and you will enjoy yourselves; misbehave, and I will take points. Turn in your homework on time, on my desk, (pm me), and you will gain points. Are you clear? Good.

While the outside of the room looks like any other corridor to a classroom, the inside resembles the inside of a Japanese shrine. After entering the room, you can see on the left wall, from the floor to the ceiling, shelves full of scrolls of various languages. Between the shelves in the center of the wall, is a mahogany, (normal), desk filled with parchment, various colors of inks, and quills. The wall opposite of the entrance, held a beautiful mahogany carved, Japanese style desk low to the ground, with a red silk cushion for the seat. Beside the desk is also another red silk cushion, upon which a black fox kit sits. On the wall right behind the desk is an ornate frame with a picture of 7 Fox Demons, (all with varying numbers of tails: 9, 9, 9, 8, 7, 5, 4,), while above the picture, is an ornate sheathed katana on a wall stand. The right corner of the room held a chalkboard, with a drawn picture upon it. The right wall held a large shrine to the Japanese goddess Inari, (a gold statue of a fox for those of you who don't know), with a dish full of fire in front of it. If you look closely, you can see a salamander scampering among the coals. In the center of the room are simple slanted desks that allow the student to set things upon, and to write with. The students kneel or sit upon small silk cushions behind the desks. The walls of the room are actually rice paper painted with beautiful pictures of birds in flight, and kitsune gambling along a forest and river.

Latest Lesson

Tatsuko looked up from her desk when the final student arrived. "Good, you're all here. We can begin. Now I told you that we wouldn't be studying Britain for a while, however I changed my mind slightly. We will be starting it early. This lesson will be based on Hogwarts, while each following lesson will be based on a Founder. Lets begin. Hogwarts was founded a millennium ago by "four of the greatest wizards and witches of the age": Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin. Each of these founders had one of the four Hogwarts houses named after them. These four people lived some time in tenth- or eleventh-century Britain. The [founders] built the school together, far from prying Muggle eyes, for it was an age when magic was feared by the common people and witches and wizards suffered much persecution. There are two interesting rooms notable enough to mention. Located opposite an enormous tapestry depicting Barnabas the Barmy attempting to train trolls for the ballet, the Room of Requirement appears only when someone is in need of it. To make it appear, one must walk past its hidden entrance three times while concentrating on what is needed. The room will then appear, outfitted with whatever is required. The second room, is the Chamber of Secrets. The Chamber is well hidden and the entrance is in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom on the second floor, which leads down into a dark, slimy stone tunnel. The tunnel leads to a solid wall, carved with two entwined serpents with emeralds for eyes. Once the password is spoken in Parseltongue, it opens up into a large chamber. This is where a Basilisk was placed by Slytherin. Human history tells how he placed it to purge the school of 'tainted blood', while Kitsune history tells how he placed it there to protect the school."

Last Lesson

Tatsuko swayed to the front of the classroom, and turned around, absent mindedly petting the black fox kit. She looked at the class. "Now class, let us begin, and we'll start with Agrippa. For Agrippa, ceremonial magic was in opposition to natural magic. While he had his misgivings about natural magic, which included astrology, alchemy, and also what muggles would today consider fields of natural science, such as botany, he was nevertheless prepared to accept it as "the highest peak of natural philosophy". Ceremonial magic, on the other hand, which included all sort of communication with spirits, including necromancy and witchcraft, (A magic like that of semi-wandless or staff magic), he denounced in its entirety as impious disobedience towards God."

Young Jae entered the classroom and was overwhelmed with the explosion of Japanese artifacts and culture. Blinking a bit, he felt his way around until he reached a chair. He put his bag down next to it and plopped as if tired. Still a little dazzled, he raised his hand.
"Sensei, are we going to study Korea as well?"

Lily entered the classroom and approached the front desk. "Um Professor may I join your class? My name is Lillix, I'm a first year and a Ravenclaw." Lily said shyly.

"Hello," Young Jae greeted Lillix politely, "I'm Young Jae. First year at Gryffindor."

Tatsuko smiled, and her tails waved behind her happily. "Yes we are, Young Jae. We're going to study as many different cultures of magic, as I can neatly fit into the year. And yes Lillix, you may join my class." She looked at the two students. "I'm sure we're going to enjoy ourselves."

"Oh hey I'm a first year too, Ravenclaw." Lily responded with a smile.

Lily took careful notes on the Professor's lecture. The next day in class she returned with her homework carefully written in quill, no smudges, and placed carefully in a clear folder. Lily turned her homework in at the Professor's desk and took a seat near the front row as usual.
