London
King's Cross Station
Platform 9 3/4
Hogwarts Express

The station is filled with young and eager students, either about to start their training at Hogwarts or about to continue.
The date is September 1st, 1978.
The young wizards and witches find their way onto the hidden platform via walking straight into the barrier between platforms nine and ten. The platform is hidden from prying muggle eyes as well as muggle-borns;
but with help, the muggle-borns can find their way.
The train is large and scarlet, there are many compartments for the children to sit in.
Parents can be seen seeing off their children throughout the station. This is where fond farewells and promises of visits take place. This is where new faces can be met and where the new wizards can have their first taste of what it's like.
This is the first step to finding your way to Hogwarts.

It was a cloudy day and seemed like it could rain at any moment.

A girl was walking through the station with her mother, her long brown hair plaited back.
As they arrived at platform nine, she looked around eagerly for the sign that said 9 3/4, but upon reaching platform ten, she gave a curious look at her mother.

"Mum, where is the platform? I can not see it."

Her mother smiled at her.
"It's just over there, Marceline," she said, pointing at a barrier.
"We just have to walk through there. Let's do it together."

Her mother stuck out her hand, but Marceline did not take it.

"Walk into a barrier? How does that work?"

"Just come."

With that said, her mother grabbed the trolley Marceline was pushing with one hand and held onto her wrist with the other. The two of them walked at the barrier and came out on the other side, completely unscathed.

"Wow--" Marceline stared wide-eyed around. "How did we do that?"

Her mother gave her a reasuring smile.
"Come on, let's find you a compartment."

A lone eleven year old stood on the bridge to platform 10 with a sheet of ornately decorated parchment in her hand.
She was recieving quite a few funny looks from passing Muggles that weren't just because she was on her own.

Her purple-streaked hair was tied in a ponytail and the blonde fringe hung right into her silvery eyes, she was wearing a bright purple mac and a red dress that was made up of layers of lace and silk with a pair of black Doc Marten boots.

A large amount of glitter adorned her left cheek and her eyes were ringed with black kohl.

The girl sighed peering down at the paper again, on it were a few instructions pertaining to how to get to Platform number 9 and 3/4.
'Walk stright into the barrier between Platforms 9 and Ten'
She furrowed her brow. Walk into a wall? It seemed like such a stupid thing to do but if her mother instructed it then she might as well try.

Oh and Theresa, the name Evangeline still demands respect, and don't you forget it darling.
Theresa checked that her pet cornsnake Slyther was still firmly wrapped around her wrist and shoved the trolley towards Platform 10.

Getting through the barrier was easier than it seemed but once on the Platform she was swept stright into a sea of students and thier parents and the only thing to do was to head towards the big scarlet Steam Train.

A young boy grasped the cage in his hands tightly as his parents stood with him in the crowded station, looking over him with identical looks of disapproval.

"Well the platform will be through there," said the boy's father, motioning to the barrier between platforms nine and ten. "I trust you'll be able to find your way through without us?"

The boy resisted the urge to roll his eyes, "Yes."

His mother frowned, "Now remember the talk we had last night. Slytherin is the only house worth being in."

"And if you end up in another we will pull you out of the school immediately and send you off to Durmstrang. They'd set you right," added his father.

"Make sure you stay on good terms with all the children from influential families," the boy's mother lowered her voice and leaned down so that he could hear her. "We're trying to move ourselves up in the world. The last thing we need is for you to embarrass us."

She stood up straight once more and looked at her son's pierced eyebrow and wayward hair scornfully. Her husband took out his pocketwatch and glanced at it before shoving it back into his waistcoat pocket.

"Well we'd best be off. Don't want to be late for our meeting." He said gruffly and without another word turned his back on his son and walked away, his wife on his heels.

The boy sighed to himself quietly and gathered up his belongings before heading towards the barrier his father had pointed out and walking through the seemingly solid wall. The loud voices of excited families greeted him once he had made it to the other side and he could not help but stare at the great scarlet steam engine that stood before him.

"The Hogwarts Express," He said to no one in particular though the owl sitting in the cage in his hands cocked its head in interest.

The boy bowed his head and walked straight into the crowd, determined to find an empty compartment where he could read in peace.

"I can go on my own," A dark haired boy told his parents, who were standing above him with looks of approval.
He pushed a hand through his chin-length black hair exposing the underside of his fringe that he'd bleached white.

He like a lot of the non-muggle children he was dressed rather differently from the muggles.
The boy was dressed in black jeans with a white shirt, black jumper and grey leg-warmers over a pair of Chuck Taylor trainers that his father had brought him back from an american business trip.
It was attracting a fair few stares especially as both parents were dressed in robes.

He glanced around looking out for anyone he knew, this would be his first year at Hogwarts and he was already longing to be on the train, especially if he could find a certain older ginger boy who he happened to find interesting.

"Alexandir, please look after yourself," His mother emplored tucking a strand of white-blonde hair behind her ear.

"I will, I swear, I'll be a good boy, promise!" he replied itching to just go. Of course they were false promises, the boy hadn't got it in his nature to behave.
He began to shift himself from foot to foot getting tired of waiting.

"Remember, the wizards choice matters, become a Slytherin, it's the only fitting house for our line." his father told him resting a hand on his wife's arm to keep her from bothering thier son any longer.

"I know, I know, I'll ask to leave if they put me in anywhere else," He replied rolling his eyes. Realising they were letting him go he flashed a quick smile and turned to leave calling; "Bye, love you," over his shoulder.

Alexandir turned and ran for the barrier between Platforms 9 and 10 slipping out of sight onto Platform 9 and 3/4.
It was only when he hit the platform and saw the sparkly little girl in her purple coat that he remembered that she would be starting Hogwarts this year.
His mother's cousins daughter who had a nasty habit of prodding him with spoons and she looked lost.

He supposed the only thing to do would be to act the gentleman and see if she was okay.
"Theresa!" he called slipping through the crowd with ease.

He was taller than a lot of the students, even the older ones and his skinniness made it easy to get through the crowds. He dragged his trunk behind him hoping his pet ferret Araminta stayed on his shoulders and didn't take this moment to escape.

"WILLOW GET BACK HERE!" shouted a tall red headed woman as she followed her speedy daughter to where the barrier was. The young girl, looking quite like her mother, had known where the barrier was located and how you did it from watching her older brothers go to Hogwarts several years before. She had an eagerness about her, and rushing excitement was building up.

One of her brothers came up from behind and grabbed her shoulder, since she was about to go headlong into the barrier with a bunch of muggles around. She'd almost forgotten...although the fact that the four of them were wearing robes and cloaks was enough to attract attention.

"Now come on Willow, you've seen us do this plenty of times. Don't go revealing our world to the muggles on your first day!"

Willow simply smiled, and when the coast was clear, she went inside with her brothers and their mother. Immediately they were in the crowd of other students and their families. She didn't know anyone, but her brothers went off to find friends of theirs. Feeling a bit lonely now, she looked to her mother.

"Oh they could've at least waited to get you a compartment." her mother said, shaking her head.

"I'll be okay mum." Willow replied. "But I'd best get going now to find a good seat in the back."

"Why the back, dear?"

"I dunno, it just seems like a fun place to be."

Making a face at her daughter's strangeness that she was most likely used to, the mother said goodbye to Willow and watched her board the train with worry. Willow waved off and went to find a seat in the back.

A small eleven-year old boy was following his father and looking a bit nervous, as they headed for the barrier that led to Platform Nine and 3/4. He was dressed in muggle clothing and blended in rather easily. His father however was wearing black robes that caused him to get quite a lot of stares from passerby.

Following them was a dog with stringy white fur and a doofy look about him. He trotted alongside the boy with an excited air about him, the leash tied around the boy's right wrist.

The father stopped the boy as they reached the barrier. Muggles were about, and they would have to wait until they had all gone.

"You remember what to do right Michelangelo?" the father asked.

Michelangelo nodded, but wasn't really paying attention. He wanted to get away from his father as quickly as possible and get aboard the train. He looked to his dog, his face now looking a bit sad. He couldn't bring his favorite pet with him to school. The dog sat, looking back at him with a confused look, glancing back and forth between him and the barrier.

Then all the muggles cleared away, and they went through the barrier and to the platform. Students, both new and old, were already bustling about, greeting friends and seeing off families. He felt slightly different from them, all the cheery faces. But he had to be happy. He'd finally be getting away from his parents.

His father turned to him with a cocky smile. "Remember, our bloodline is Slytherin. You should be proud to join that house. Don't soil our name and get into some other house, okay?"

Michelangelo nodded again, but felt his father was pushing this just too much. Who cared what house he was in anyway? Why should that make a difference?

His father took the dog's leash and tugged on it rather gruffly. The dog began whining, knowing now what was going on.

Michelangelo kneeled next to his companion and petted his head. "Don't worry Horatio, I'll be home for Christmas, and I'll get to see you again okay? Don't have too much fun without me."

He took his trunk and pulled it to the train, not saying another word to his father. Looking around at the scarlet engine, he wondered where he should sit.

Finally deciding just to look around at the compartments, he went aboard and started searching, hearing his dog barking outside for him to come back.

"Here we are, Platform Nine and 3/4's." said an elderly wizard, his long black hair graying slightly. Next to him stood a timid looking boy, dressed all in black, with shiny black hair pulled up into a sloppy bun. At first it would appear that the boy was the man's grandson, but it just so happened they weren't related at all. The boy held a little black kitten in his arms with gentle care, feeling it purring hard against his hand and chest.

"Alright, let's get going." said the wizard, and they walked through the barrier. The boy felt it weird, walking into what appeared to be a solid wall, and then coming through onto another train platform. He felt the wizard take his hand and direct him through the crowd to a train compartment that was filling up with students.

"Ready Roland?" the wizard asked the boy, smiling at him with care. "You've got it from here I'll wager?"

"Yes of course." Roland replied in a soft, almost girlish voice. "I suppose this is goodbye then."

"For now, but you'll be coming to visit for Christmas break, right?"

"Of course I shall. Although, if I make friends within that time, may I bring them? Even if they're...y'know, not in Slytherin?"

The wizard smiled even more at Roland.

"Oh come now, just because we're Slytherins doesn't mean the entire wizard population has to be. I'll let your friends over no matter what house they belong in. And remember, be open to meeting new people. Even if someone's in a different house, you may find something about them that you like."

Roland nodded. He hugged the wizard carefully, making sure not to lose the nervous kitten in his hands, and then looked to the train. He stepped towards it and stopped before one of the doors. Turning back, he saw that the wizard had already gone. Feeling nervous, he went ahead and got aboard.

"I think I will be fine now, mum."
Marceline stopped right before jumping on the train and embraced her mother. Her mother kissed her forehead.

"Be a good girl, Celini."

"Muuum!" she whined. "Please refrain from calling me that!"

Her mother smiled, and with another kiss, she turned and walked a few paces away. Marceline boarded the train and looked around for an (hopefully) empty compartment.

Finding one in the very back of the train, she smiled at her victorious effort and entered. She heaved up her trunk and placed it on the over-head compartment and pulled out a thick novel.

This should be long enough for the ride, she thought to herself as she sat down. Marceline opened up her book to the first page and began to read.

Willow went all the way to the back, but most the compartments were already full or occupied. She was about to give up when she saw the last one, which only had one person in it.

Cautiously she walked up and opened the door, looking at the girl.

"Excuse me...is it okay if I sit here with you?"

Willow felt a bit more comfortable. The girl looked like another first year like herself.

'Dismus' had been branded across the large trunk above the young boy's head. He had been very careful to mark all of his belongings before leaving home (no point in losing them once he reached his new school), but he doubted it would really matter in the end. The chances of people actually getting to know him well enough to learn his name were rather slim. Even Dismus could admit he was almost too anti-social for his own good.

Sighing, Dismus turned another page of his book (an old tome on the history of the Dark Arts one of his uncles had given to him on his eleventh birthday) and continued reading. Fortunately, he had gotten on the train before most of the other students had begun boarding and had been able to find an empty compartment near the middle of the train. A few students had peeked into his compartment but no one had stayed and he never bothered to offer anyone a spot.

"Now if it can stay like this for the rest of the trip I'll be just fine," Dismus said aloud while giving the owl in the cage next to him a little scratch on the head. "And you'll be just fine too, won't you Asmos? I know you don't like company either," he added softly.

Dismus leaned back in his seat and looked out the window at the dark sky.

Another quiet sigh left his lips.

Seated at the front end of the train and looking very confident, young first year Kharstie observed the wizards and witches outside with interest, wondering which of the people boarding were going to be in her house, and which ones she'd grow to dislike. She knew she'd be in either Slytherin or Hufflepuff, since her mom was from one and her dad from another.

She had a brown cat curled up in her lap, purring with content as she stroked it. Her luggage was neatly packed and sitting above her in a rack. It was pink, as was most of the things she owned. Her blonde hair was adorned with a pink bow on one side, and she had large pink earrings in her ears, but they weren't tacky or ridiculous looking. She also appeared to have a slight liking for the color blue; the clothing she wore that wasn't pink was of that color instead.

She watched out the window, seeing a few kids looking a bit lost. Muggle-borns, no doubt. A part of the crowd she wanted to stay away from.

Kharstie had no older siblings to tell her about Hogwarts...just stories from her parents. But surely times had changed and things were a bit different than then...different teachers, students...of course, her younger sister would have an advantage when she went, since Kharstie would surely tell her anything her sister wanted to know.

The girl soon found she was a bit bored waiting for anyone else to come in. She got up, her cat meowing with annoyance and jumping into the seat next to her, and began rummaging around in her bag to find something to do.

Marceline looked up from her book after finishing the last sentence.
'...crept up to the second floor.'

She examined the red-head that stood before her and nodded slightly, offering a polite smile.
"Sure. Come on in."

Willow smiled back and sat across from her. She put her luggage away and put her arms up behind her head. The girl was reading a book. Willow usually didn't care to read much, unless it was a really good fantasy book or something.

"So, what's your name?" Willow asked.

//. Marceline E. M. I. Kavanagh

Marceline marked her page, shut it and set it beside her.

"Marceline. My name is Marceline Estelle Mikayla Irene Kavanagh."
She smiled widely at the girl across from her. "What is your name?"
