Well I think Yanagi's eyes are more of pun type of thing. Remember back in the old Looney Toons cartoons, ever asian was depicted with slant eyes and well, a bowl cut. I guess it's just a play on the sterotypical, studious asian.

Like let's take Tuti as an example, if you look, he has small eyes but they aren't closed. But you can draw them closed and you'd still for the most part, recognize him. (Gin. lol.)

I believe his eyes are brown, but don't quote me on that. I think his original character design he had black hair with brown eyes. I don't exactly remember at this exact moment. xD

I believe that one is another play of stereotypes, but his character evolves more in the nearest arc. Before he seemed, like the stereotypical rich b*****d, who seemed to count more on pedigree and how big your account was before anything else. I guess the perfect quote would be "Screw the rules, I have money." Although he does and did have a softer side, it was not known until later, considering the only way he really showed his softer side was when he befriended Kabaji although he never treated him.. Erm.. Friendly he did seem to care somewhat.

But in the latest manga arc, he shows some resent, hatred, growth and such where he's more... erm.. Human and now I keep rambling. ; )

Haha. Well there must be rivalries with the captians, otherwise something's wrong with the team spirit. xD

Why? Because that's how he plays. I guess it could be considered a type of Kabuki-cho? I don't recall what it's called, but it's goes under a certain name and the character changes with the mask. I guess it's also comparable to "A wolf in sheeps clothing."
Considering in the manga, he was quite the kind, childish person until he went on his 'stage' which was the court. Or you can say the poor child just has some issues. xD

Which ever works for you, but for me, every character almost has a certain quote attached to them or a reference to some type of their own Culture.

Actually that only happened in the Anime I believe. He was never was rough and tumble type of person off the court. He's still very cruel on the court though. He also didn't have a problem controlling his demon side, infact, I think it's just high blood pressure. I don't remember how they explained it, but anyways... Yeah, he'll most likely need glasses when he's older with all those ruptured blood veins. wink

As for Atobe vs Sanada, well I don't think Atobe really has too much of a rivalry against him because Tezuka, showed Atobe up in an embarressing way.. Atobe probably felt weak because he could've lost to an serverly injured person. I guess that just shot his ego down and named Tezuka his ultimate rival.

I guess that's because Hiroshi isn't all that loved?
I don't know the exact reason, but I think it's only because he's not really a popular hyoutei regular. You know those.. Fan polls? XD

Whoops. Haha, and that's why I never refer to their first names. I just get messed up. Anyways, they probably just do it because it's easier for the to animate without having to animate the sun's refection on the glasses.

Most studious, nerdy, distant people with glasses don't get eyes. It's part of anime 101. Just like that guy from Sailor moon. Haha. Oh jeez. Ishida when he's being overly serious, and Jin from samurai champloo, when he's being silly. Or even Soubi from Loveless when he's overly depressed. :V

Oh yes, that would be quite the ego-shattering blow. Especially since he declared himself the winner before it even was finished.

Like I said, it's anime 101. Also it could be that he has thick glasses, or the saying: "Seiten no heki-reki." Which means that a complete suprise just so you can't understand what he's doing or his motives.
