The topic subject enough should explain it all. In parts of the world, most noticeably in areas of Africa, children have been seen, heard, and killed with armed weapons and have killed others. They're also roughly treated the same as any other soldier in their armed military or guerilla group by their superior officers.
This isn't really aimed for debate, just a discussion of opinions on the subject.
Discuss:
-Your opinion on child soldiers
-Is it really necessary? If we came to a point where we had to use everything we could to get rid of an enemy, would you include your own children or other children to the cause?

I'd -be- a child soldier in a post-apocalyptic scenario. I have no problem with killing for my survival. However, I would not fight for my government.

Yeah, they're just impressing them into the army. They get them hooked on drugs so they don't escape. The whole thing is just horrible. They're not volunteers, they're basically brainwashed slaves. That should never happen.

SimonSmith I'd -be- a child soldier in a post-apocalyptic scenario. I have no problem with killing for my survival. However, I would not fight for my government. I concur, although now I'm 19, so I wouldn't be a child soldier. I would not go to war, but I would kill for survival.

Oh boy. I did a report on children in the military for school last year, and I'd have to say that I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

it is not only in Africa, in other places kids are forced to join gangs to protect their families from the gang that they have to join, and from others

I don't think the question is whether or not its right, I think most would agree its not, but whether its necessary. I can't see a situation where the US government would enlist children in the actual military but we have "child soldiers" on the streets. Kids that have to fight either because their life is in danger or they just don't know any other way of life.
I'm not an expert on Africa but if I were a parent and I had to choose between the lives of everyone as a whole and sparing my child's innocence, I would probably make him fight since his life would be in danger either way.
However, if it was not a life or death situation for everyone in the group (the child included) then it isn't necessary and is therefore highly immoral.

It's the terrible stuff they make them do. They make them kill, cook, and eat their enemies. They will get them addicted to drugs so that they have to do what their told. They are forced to savagely kill sometimes their own families. It's horrible.

The only time I'd ever be in favor of child soldiers is if we were invaded and had to use them as part of our militia. Look at the terrorists in Iraq, they're strapping bomb jackets on their children and sending them out in public. They've got the right idea.

However if you're invaded, then you turn all your children into bombs, even if you gain freedom almost all your population would be getting old, making more susceptible to future invasion. Therefore for long term survival of a country/race/whatever you may not want to kill your future.

I would go with the old people. Strap them to animals and PETA would form their own nation, capture civilians, then give them back with bombs hidden inside of them. But they couldn't care less about which humans you killed.
