These are for thoughts and theories and ideas that relate to the upcoming movie. I will be putting in plenty of thoughts but we'd also like to hear from you. Here is my first one that I saw on a website: Quote: Honestly, we know very little about this movie at the moment, but what we do know seems to draw a fairly clear line. I think is somewhat obvious, and some feel it may not be worth stating, but here it is regardless. The movie as best we can tell is a monster movie. Within the trailer, we hear someone yell something to the effect of “I saw it; it is alive; it is huge!” Many of the stereotypes of monster movies stem from Godzilla, and the string of Japanese monster movies. Not coincidentally, the character of Rob is moving to Japan. There are rumors that internally the monster has been referred to as a parasite, but that doesn’t add up with “It is huge!” The monster may have been created in turn by a parasite, and that does seem consistent with some of the things we know about Slusho, a japanese drink maker, which brings us back to Rob. Rob is the central figure in the trailer, and one would assume in the movie. I’m going to make a logical assumption that Rob is traveling to Japan because of Slusho, perhaps to work for them. Some have noted that Rob appears to react differently from anyone else at the party. Is this simply because he is the main character and thusly he needs to stand out and drive the plot forward, or is it because he knows something that no one else does? If he had any knowledge that Slusho, its products, or anything was particularly dangerous, would he travel to Japan? Would he be having a party as opposed to warning someone? Like everyone else, he was watching the news, curious what the sound was. He did direct people to the roof, but again, if he had any knowledge of what was happening, I doubt he would go to the roof, which proved to be dangerous. Given Hollywood formulas, one will assume that some of the characters will survive, and that there is some element of resolution to the film. The threat must be abated. Plots tend to run directly through the main character, and there is a possibility that Rob has a connection to the events unfolding through Slusho, and he might have unique access to information that is vital towards the resolution of the film, but personally, I do not believe he has prior knowledge of the events that lead to mass destruction in New York. As to what exactly is occurring in New York, again there appears to be a singular monster. Given the history on the Slusho page, it is a fair assumption the monster is aquatic, and that also goes along with the projected path of the monster from the trailer, which shows the monster starting near the cost, and moving inward. The Slusho history page gives us a few more clues. Ganu encounters this powerful flavor, but he is led to it by something that appears to communicate with him. Communication implies a level of intelligence. This flavor ingredient is no doubt a living organism, and possibly the parasite. Ganu knew it had to be frozen for freshness, which implies something bad happens if it isn’t kept cold. Many people have also been noting that the news broadcast had the temperature listed, which is unusually high for January. Some equate this to a missed detail, but a news bulletin about a possible earthquake usually doesn’t list the temperature. Given BadRobot’s history with attention to detail, I believe this to be a plot-point. I believe the parasite doesn’t merely live within its host, but alters it. Ganu returned from discovering the ingredient to running his business, so the transformation must not be drastic or immediate, however the prophetic dream did suggest that Ganu would go from a small fish to a large whale. Assuming Ganu is the monster in question, was the transformation slow, or did it have a trigger, such as temperature? Or was there another trigger? We know JJ likes to focus on numbers. We know 6 and 17 have been reoccurring numbers so far. 17 + 6 = 23 We know the BadRobot guys are well aware of the many conspiracy theories about the numbers 17 and 23, and the evil powers they supposedly have. However, what is the significance of the number 6, and why is it so predominantly repeated that you can’t just have six Slusho’s? I am reminded of The Gremlins, and the rules that when broken, led to the creation of The Gremlins. If you drink more than 6 of the Slusho’s with the new ingredient, does that amount specifically trigger the reaction? Is any of this part of the key to reversing the effects perhaps

They say it's going to be about a group of people that are at a good bye party and someone is filming everything that is happening. And a monster arrives to New York and then a someone later on picks up the camera and looks to what had been filmed and that was part of the trailer. It's definetely not Godzilla. But some people think it's an anti-christ monster or an alien or the parasite. In the trailer someone screams out it's alion it's alive. Anyway they say the star trek movie is coming out next year and also produced my J.J. Abrams the one producing "Cloverfield" but they say the star trek movie is coming out in december. My other friend thinks it's part of star trek. And they have not finished filming this movie. J.J. Abrams had written a letter to a friend of mine saying that Evan Haas has nothing to do with this and that there is a hidden site with all the clues and no one has found it yet. There is a main site but it has three pictures from the movies. However i found a site by slusho saying clues and what the movie might be about. It took me hours to find this site and i forgot what it's called but it has a name that's not related with the movie so that made it harder to find. Well those are some stuff i know. Also there is a site that everyone is supose to find that has almost all the information about the movie. According to my dad's information he says it's named after J.J. Abrams son i think. Well you should also think about looking up coney island some of the scenes are being filmed there. It might Godzilla but i'm still not sure. It's that Paramount doesn't own Godzilla so they can't make a godzilla movie. I got some news this doesn't have to do with the upcoming movie, star trek.

Certain people have the theory that it is the long-awaited "Voltron" movie. Based on the comment in the trailer "It looks like a lion!" And "It's huge!" This would also make sense seeing as how they aired the trailer during the "Transformers" movie, which has the same kind of genre. Sci-Fi 80's giant robot cartoon.

I have to wonder if there really is no connection between Ethan Haas and Cloverfield, mainly because of the relevance and the mystery of both items. The Ethan Haas sites, though they seem to be dated back as far as late '06, didn't seem to get any viewings until after July 4th this year when the Transformers movie (and the infamous 1-18-08 trailer) came out. Records and dates on postings can be doctored, but at least with Blogspot, comment posting can't. I personally haven't seen any dated before July 6, 2007.
Yes, there is the fact that Abrams denied a connection. Yes, there is speculation that Ethan Haas, Van Mantra, and the Mezin are actually part of a roleplaying game currently in development. Maybe I just can't let this go. and i guess we'll know for sure in two days.
So far, the most anybody has for sure on this project is already here in this forum. I can't bring anything new and startling to the table just yet. We know Cloverfield isn't Godzilla and it isn't Voltron, nor is it Power Rangers or Go-Bots (yes, I did read speculation of it being Go-Bots). From what can be found in hopefully legitimate sources, this is original Abrams.

Well, as possible as it seems (a group of young adults, monsters threatening a city, references to Japan) it's unlikely to the point of the Easter Bunny.
Both possible, both interesting, but both excruciatingly unlikely.

So prepare for the coup of the century!
I agree with the OP in that the monster should be something related to the deep. However, I'm not so sure that the thing is actually the thing s, i.e., parasites (maybe something along that plane), or that Ganu himself is the monster. I read someplace that 11808 is a genetic sequence; maybe the critter was created in some weird experiment involving SLUSHO! Maybe Ganu conducted the experiments himself upon deep sea organisms (possibly giant tube worms, which can grow to incredible lengths and live off the hydrogen sulfide and other things emitted by black smokers; these worms can also tolerate extreme temperatures and obviously the extreme pressure of the deep). Edit:I read on a fan blog (Cloverfield Clues) that the sound of the first roar sounded very much like a sped-up version of the Bloop. Another user on the blog mentioned that Hokkaido (mentioned in the SLUSHO! Happy Talk page) is a Japanese town with a nuclear power plant, which could explain somewhat of how genetics is involved. My guess as of now: Noriko's disappearance led her son Ganu to become a marine biologist. He picked up specimens in the field and examined them. He and his comrades one day find the new ingredient (a deep-sea plant, possibly radioactive from any leaks from the aforementioned nuclear facility). Ganu has a dream that a whale (his mother) tells him to drink that ingredient; he becomes a whale like his mother and realizes that this ingredient should go into SLUSHO! What Ganu doesn't realize is that his mother might be dead because she had found the ingredient first, and probably drank too much of it (radiation poisoning); another possibility is that she was killed by the creature that either ate this ingredient or was directly affected by the radiation leak, either way leading to the creature's DNA becoming altered and thus, making it some sort of monster. Ganu and his team realize that their discovery is radioactive and potentially harmful to humans, but keep hush about it after the new addition sparks a higher demand for the frosty beverage. It would make sense to keep the ingredient frozen: if the particles in the ingredient are too warm (thus moving too quickly), the whole item could become unstable and result in disaster. So, of course, the ingredient would be added in small amounts, so when it would enter the human body, the effects wouldn't be as great. With six or more doses, however, the effect of the radiation would increase, thus hurting the consumers of the beverage more and more, but slowly. Again, anyone who knows anything at the SLUSHO! company keeps vows of silence regarding the secret ingredient. As for the monster: The creature could be some whale-like monster that was exposed to radiation through the radioactive plants. Since SLUSHO! is using those very same plants in their beverages, quickly shrinking the amount of those plants available to the monster, it would make sense for the monster to get revenge on humans. I'm still working out the kinks, and all, and this is obviously subject to change as more information is released.
Be prepared for the murkiest scam! Edit 2: If you've seen the Happy Talk page, you'll notice the creepy-looking mouth that swallows each character commenting on SLUSHO! This could play in on how the whale could symbolize Ganu's SLUSHO! and how it's a corporation gone wrong: if my radiation hypothesis is correct, then it should be the fault of SLUSHO! for the destruction in NYC.

My Second Theory
Working with some more information gleaned from videos, blogs, and websites, I've come upon a second theory as to what should "go down" in Cloverfield.
Videos First, I shall go over some videos I've watched. The first one that really caught my eye was the one by Xerr45. View it here. In it, he tells us that the smallest whale (Noriko's nickname) is the Pygmy Sperm Whale. In the wikipedia article he cited:wikipedia Pygmy Sperms are usually solitary creatures but have been seen in groups of up to six. He also points out the number relationship: six whales to six beverages. He goes on to say that they prefer to stay away from humans and rarely ever surface; the critters have "a sac in its intestines that contains a dark red fluid"; he adds that SLUSHO!'s ingredient was found in the deep, in extreme cold and pressure, and that the SLUSHO on Alias was red (though I'm speculating that it was just an ICEE mock to avoid a lawsuit, but I'll explain on it later). He basically infers that the ingredient in SLUSHO! is none other than the liquid in those sacks.
Moving on to the next video, the man behind 1-18-08News.com tells us that the monster is actually in alien that's been living deep in the ocean, undisturbed until the scent of the secret ingredient in SLUSHO! awoke it (according to him, by Rob's party, with large amounts of SLUSHO!); all who had ever consumed the beverage was a target. View the video here.
While I agree that the monster was attracted to the SLUSHO! scent, I don't think it would've been because of Rob's party: they had to have gotten all that SLUSHO! from a store selling the beverage. In other words, there were greater quantities of SLUSHO! in one location than at Rob's party.
He also goes on to explain that the monster comes from underground and through the gas lines, causing the explosion; the creature swam underground and came up. This would explain the earthquake and flickering of the lights. However, there is still the question of why exactly it's 63 degrees at midnight in January in NYC, unless it's a fiery beast.
Symbolism and Images Next, I shall discuss the symbolism behind the critters commonly mentioned, as well as images I have found.
Source: HouseofNames.com
whale- According to legend, the whale was often mistaken for an island. Ships that anchored to its side were dragged down to destruction by a sudden plunge of the immense creature. In this way, the whale came to be used as a symbol of the Devil, and the whale's open mouth the open gates of hell....
The whale could symbolize the very heads of the SLUSHO! corporation: Noriko and Ganu. Noriko was called "the smallest whale" by her peers. Ganu had a dream after he found the ingredient (the aforementioned sac?) where he became a whale. These two people doomed all those who were to consume the secret ingredient in their tasty beverages, including themselves.
Also, something in the poster caught my eye. In the clouds looks what seems to be a whale.
A whale over NYC to swallow it whole (or be swallowed, explanation coming up).
 See it now?
Edit: In this theory, the whale is a symbol and source of food, not the destructive force, itself. I merely mention that the cloud over NYC looks like a whale because the whale is a symbol of the gates of hell.
horse- Horses are considered very spirited, powerful and beautiful animals. They were thought of like brave warriors: highly skilled fighters who loved victory and were miserable when conquered. The horse signifies readiness to act for one's country. It is also a symbol of speed, intellect and virility....
If the critter on the SLUSHO! site really is a horse and not a donkey (I'm not really sure how the donkey thing came about, so any explanation is appreciated), then the horse could symbolize the soldier. It could even symbolize Hudson the cameraman: on his myspace, it says that he'd like to "rescue the princess" (it also mentions several "burnt" words, such as "crispy" and "grilled"). He also goes on a lot about his heroes, and is into comic books.
On behindthename.com, I found that "Noriko" means "law, rule" or "code, ceremony" plus "child". It's possible that her name could mean "ceremony child", since she is the one who sets SLUSHO! to a big business.
The Theory And finally, here is my little conspiracy theory on this film.
Noriko is a "little whale" in that she sets the train of the film on its tracks to Hell. She becomes obsessed with tasty beverages, and with support from her family and friends, starts a frosted beverage business. She sets off to sea to find the perfect ingredient, never to return. She had found the ingredient in the sac of a pygmy sperm whale; unfortunately, she also found the creature that feasted upon these whales: the alien that would rock NYC.
Since she had partaken of the fluid in the whale's sac, the monster eats her - the whale eaten by a whale eaten by the monster that eats the first whale. The monster becomes dormant for whatever reason, and is not seen again until January 18, 2008.
To the folks back home, however, Noriko merely vanished. Ganu becomes a marine biologist and happens to come upon the sac of the whale himself, possibly to investigate its purpose, when he realizes that the fluid would make the ingredient in SLUSHO! beverages. He dreams that a whale tells him to drink the ingredient, and when he complies, he becomes a whale himself; he opens the "gates of Hell" further for himself and SLUSHO! drinkers by adding the fluid into drinks.
SLUSHO! comes in many colours, but mostly blue, just to make it clear that the drink does not have to be red.
People of all ages enjoy SLUSHO!, themselves becoming "whales" in that now that they have consumed the sac fluid (in the SLUSHO!), they are all targets of the monster.
SLUSHO! moves overseas to New York, becoming an instant hit. More people become "whales" by drinking SLUSHO! The sheer number of people who became whales awakens the monster, bringing it to NYC, where the drink was most popular.
The monster arrives in New York Harbor, rips off and carries the Statue of Liberty's head as it continues to the city. It dives underwater and rises up through the ground, causing the earthquake and power flickering. It also heats up the atmosphere, making it 63 degrees in NYC in January. As it rises, it hits a gasline, causing the explosion. It then throws the SOL's head towards the general location of the party-goers.
After that, the critter does some roasting of all who consumed the beverage, flicking those in its way like an annoyed child flicks away an ant.
Another of Terri's theories that is prone to edits and such. 3nodding Condensed: -Monster eats pygmy sperm whales and anything that consumed the fluid in the whale's intestinal sac. -Noriko discovers the fluid and drinks it, but is eaten by the monster. -Ganu rediscovers it, puts it in SLUSHO! -SLUSHO! becomes hit, moves to NYC to become an even bigger sensation -Number of people who consumed SLUSHO! awakens alien monster thing, leading it to the place with the most SLUSHO! consumers: NYC

So prepare for the coup of the century!
In my second theory, I didn't say that a whale destroyed the city: I was supporting the Alien targeting SLUSHO! drinkers theory. I mentioned that the whale (specifically, the pygmy sperm whale) served two purposes:
1. to be symbolic of Noriko and Ganu (they put the ingredient in SLUSHO! that would doom all consumers of the beverage; the whale is a symbol of destruction and "gates of hell")
2. to be the source of food for the alien: I said that the alien may feed on the sac of the whale; the liquid in the sac may be the main ingredient in SLUSHO! The alien, with highly developed senses, may be able to sniff out the liquid in the whale's sac; the humans who consumed that very same liquid in SLUSHO! unfortunately also fall prey to the alien.
Be prepared for the murkiest scam!
