Intro
"First contact occurred during the year 2525. We have fought against them for twenty seven years. We have sacrificed worlds and vessels, sent sons and daughters to their deaths, all to protect our home. And yet the Covenant never stopped trying. We fought back from every corner, every ledge, we never allowed ourselves to be cornered like this. When Reach fell, we knew it was only a matter of time. The Covenant we coming, and we were powerless to stop them. When the Spartan IIs reappeared, it seemed that all was not lost, and that we would have a chance to fight back. A chance to live just long enough to save everything. Then, without warning, a Covenant expeditionary fleet appeared in our system. They weren't looking for us, and didn't realize that we were here. Even though we outnumbered their ships ten to one, they still fought us to a stand-still in orbit around our world. Now all our prayers go to the men and women who must fight them on the ground while we try to hold out as long as we can up here." - Fleet Admiral Lord Terrance Hood.

The command bridge of the UNSC Cairo Super MAC station was a flurry of activity. Many of the other stations had already been neutralized by the Covenant borders, though the Cairo stood strong. Bolts of lightning streaked across the black of space, sometimes impacting with the purplish hulls of Covenant vessels. In return, blue spheres of malicious energy hurtled toward the Human Defenses. Lord Hood stood at his station and commanded what was left of the task force defending the planet.
"Reroute all UNSCDF traffic here immediately. We're going to need all the help we can get. Move all available ground forces to New Mombasa ASAP."
He gave orders as fast as they came into his mind. He would not fail mankind. He was in the midst of relaying tactical information to Admiral Harper when a message came through.
>Sir. Permission to leave the station.<
"For what purpose Master Chief?"
>To give the Covenant back their bomb.<
Hood paused. It was good to have the Spartans on their side.
"Permission granted."

The Frigate In Amber Clad moved swiftly through the void above the planet Earth when the Covenant Assault Carrier they had been preparing to destroy exploded from the inside. They received coordinates from Cortana and moved to intercept when a dull thud resounded through the bridge.
"For a brick, he flew pretty good." remarked Sergeant Major Avery Junior Johnson.
Commander Miranda Keyes flicked the COM switch.
"Chief, get inside, gear up. We're taking this fight to the surface."

Fort Gonzolez, Mexico.

The UNSC Frigate Hessian kept station above the remains of the fort and Covenant CCS class cruiser as the surviving Marines and Helljumpers were loaded aboard. The UNSC Dunkelst, a Prowler moved swiftly into the upper atmosphere. Both ships were bound for the African continent.

New Mombasa, East African Protectorate:

The 405th Marine Infantry Regiment had launched out of the UNSC Diego Garcia as soon as the Covenant had touched the ground. There was no way in hell anyone was going to let the Covenant gain a strong foothold on Earth, even those who had never actually seen the planet before. Men and supplies were offloaded as quickly as possible, in addition, the local garrison provided what help they could. It was time for a little payback.

Currently East Africa, Mombasa in particular, is the hotspot of Covenant activity. All their efforts seem focused around the region, and their landing troops in New Mombasa seems to cement the fact that they are indeed intent on capturing or destroying the city. The UNSC Marines have been called in to do what they do best, kill all things Covenant.

Sergeant Glenn Graves paced on the launch deck as he awaited orders from his CO. 'It's been a while since I last jumped...I wonder if Ill make it'
the noncom thought to himself. As he thought this, he called on the radio "Sir, this is Sergent Graves here. Awaiting orders, sir!"

Three Pelicans loaded with Marines flew from the hangers of In Amber Clad. While the Marine regulars chat amongst themselves, one lone figure stands statuesque, gazing out from behind a golden visor. A familiar voice chimed in, the vocal synthesizers in the Spartan's armor creating the voice of Cortana.

The Bridge of In Amber Clad is frankly the approximation of a sardine can. There is barely enough room for everyone, let alone the equipment. Commander Miranda Keyes stared at the small view-screen embedded into the command chair.
"Catchy, any idea what it means?"
In the Cockpit of the lead Pelican, a strong figure stood watch behind the pilots. He rubbed his chin with a gloved hand and spoke up.
"Dear humanity... we regret being alien bastards, we regret coming to Earth, and we most definitely regret that the corps just blew up our Raggedy-a** Fleet!"
"Hoo-rah!" said both pilots with a slight chuckle.
Cortana chimed in once more with a slightly disgusted tone.

The trio of Pelicans buzz a squad of M12 ground vehicles and pass by a Marine Sniper/spotter team.
>Immediate. Grid kilo two-three is hot. Recommend mission abort.<
"Roger recon, It's your call Sarge." Said on of the pilots.
Johnson thought for a moment, "we're goin' in," he glanced back into the troop compartment, "Get Tactical Marines!"
The voice of Fleet Admiral Hood flooded through the Spartan's helmet speakers.
>Master Chief, get aboard that carrier, and secure the Prophet of Regret. This is the only place on Earth the Covenant decided to land. That Prophet is going to tell us why.<
The pilot checked the timer.
"Thirty seconds out... stand by to... woah."
An enormous walking tank stomped out from behind a building. Crushing anything below it. The "head" of the vehicle opened, and a large beam of pure plasma shot forth, clipping the first pelican. The other two veer off in search of better cover. Plasma cannons on the top of the Covenant Scarab track them and eventually shoot one down. The remaining Pelican suffers a blow to the engines and plummets into the sandy beach behind Hotel Zanzibar. The lead Pelican inverts and crashes into the roof of a nearby building.

Three miles north.

The remainder of 2nd Battalion, 105th ODSTs lands hard. As soon as the pods burst open they are enveloped in a wave of plasma fire. The fighting intensifies until another pod reaches the ground, splattering the Elite commander who had been unlucky enough to be in the way of the pod. When the door was blown off by small explosives, an armored figure stepped out, holding an MA5B assault rifle and a MA6K MPA attached to the back of his armor. He also carried a sidearm attached to the right thigh of his armor. He stepped out, crushing the remains of the remains of what had been beneath his pod. Taylor had hit the ground. Almost immediately after his appearance, the lower ranks in the Covenant forces panicked and ran toward the back of their lines. To them, each Spartan was the Demon. A fact that Spartan-103 intended to take full advantage of.

The Pelican that Team Nobody had rigged to be a giant bomb roared over the battlefields. SPARTAN-108, Logan, stood still, the hatch open, looking down at the fires raging on the ground. He loathed those soldier's who opened fire on any contact that wasn't friendly. He desired to be there. He held in his excitement though, as the Pelican barrel rolled, tossing him around, and he barely kept his foothold on the Pelican.
"Segafe, no more of that s**t. Find a suitable target yet?" he said, excitement crawling up his spine as he saw a rocket fly nearly two meters from the Pelican, and intercept an inbound Banshee.
"Yes, it seems to be a Covenant gravitational lift, sir. Although, it is roughly four to five times larger then the usual lifts. I will remote pilot the Pelican into the gravitation lift, and let the beam carry the Pelican up. When it reaches the hatch, I advise you hit the detonator."
Logan only blinked his acknowledgment light in agreement, and prepared his parachute. He grabbed Jason by the rim of his belt, and looked at him. "I fall faster then you, and your not a Helljumper or Spartan, so I'm taking you with me. Deploy parachute when you are approximately 20 meters from the ground." he said, his grip becoming more tight. He nodded to Team Nobody, then jumped, tossing the PDA back to Morgan as he did so.

Morgan caught the PDA as he stood in the hatch, then nodded back to the rest of his team, and jumped as well, into the dark inferno that lie below. He pulled his ripcord, and floated directly towards a location that the Spartan indicated on his hud as their NAV marker. As he landed, he unslung his Rebel AP Assault rifle, and dashed for cover, a spray of plasma hitting the location where he just was. He looked down at his team. Over a private COM with SPARTAN-108, he had established code-names, and used them to the best of his ability. "Mephisto, cover our six and clear a path. Baal, stay with the Spartan. Diablo, Archangel, on me." he said gruffly, popping from his cover and demolishing the Grunts who had given him trouble with a spray of automatic fire.

Logan dropped Jason in the air, hoping he'd be smart enough to pull his cord. He touched dry land and sprinted towards the first target he spotted while coming down. A red armored Elite yelled a battle-cry at him. Immediately he ducked under it's fist, and wrenched it's arm holding a Plasma Rifle behind its back. He grinned, happy to be back in action, and smashed the Elites head into a wall. Baal had already gotten to him by this point, and looked down at the Elite. "Gruesome." was all he said, before peppering a nearby Jackal from behind with his MA6K. Logan nodded in response.

Morgan grinned as he saw what the Spartan had did to the Elite. "Poor b*****d, really." he said, before jumping from his cover and looking at the huge grav lift about a mile ahead of him. He saw the Pelican enter it, popped at his PDA, taking cover in a nearby sewage pipe, wincing at the smell. "Segafe, display ETA for Pelican to hit the hatch up there, and display it on our huds."
The A.I. flicked on, and it's form twisted and curved in reply. It answered slowly, "Aye, sir."
Immediately a countdown was initiated on his hud and it read, 00:29.
Morgan keyed onto his COM, "SPARTAN-108, activate the bomb when timer reaches zero! Desperado out!" he yelled. He only got a small reply.
"Copy that Desperado, head to this location-" an orange arrow appeared on Morgan's hud, roughly 50 kilometers away, "-SPARTAN-108 out!"

[ Be aware that this huge one ship over us has more then one gravitation lift. It could of been one of many destroyed. ]

((It's Regret's carrier. The shields are up so I don't think the explosion will do much.))
PostPosted: Sat Jul 14, 2007 11:34 pm

[ The hatch has to open for them to come out. And shields can't always remain up in every spot where a Gravitation lift is, because then the Covenant would be trapped up there as well. Simple reasoning. The boom commences when the shield is down and the hatch be open. It still won't do much but slow them down from the inevitable battle. But it does lighten the forces in my area slightly, giving us a better chance to rendezvous. ]

((Go ahead, but once the Master Chief does his thing and kills the Scarab, they go bye bye and the other ships come in.))

((however, wouldn't the shields only be down while objects are being transferred by the lift, much like it is only down around the plasma batteries when they are being fired. But no matter. Heh, this one post in OOC is longer than a few of my IC posts.))

Jason pulled the cord and felt himself slow down. As he touched down, he picked off a few grunts with his M6C Pistol and searched for more Covenant. When the coast was clear, he headed over to Captain Morgan. "Well, looks like I'm with you untill I meet up with the other Marines. Where are we headed exactly?"
(I have no idea if we landed in a secluded spot, or around other marines. That and you want your chute back? Just jokin bout that last part.)

Logan saw the next transfer of Covenant soldiers open the hatch, the shield on the carrier fade momentarily, and the Pelican ascend right into their path. The soldiers stopped, and refused to jump, and fired on the dropship instead, splashing plasma across its topside. He read his countdown timer. 00:03. This was going to be messy. The Pelican clogged the hole, but not for long. The Covenant would reverse the direction of the gravity soon, and move the Pelican back down. Logan wouldn't give them that chance. He hit the detonate button, and watching as fire raged across the bottom of the Covenant ship. No doubt it did no damage what-so-ever. But he did see the explosion envelope part of the inside side of the ship. Must of killed at least twenty of them he thought to himself grimly. He had hoped that he would take a lot of the bastards in that explosion. He looked back at Baal, then nodded. "Let's hurry." . Baal only nodded in approval.

Morgan snickered as the Pelican exploded. He spat on the ground, and looked at Jason. "Good riddance, never used em' anyways." he said with a sad tone in his voice. Not that many casualties for that kind of loss made Morgan sad. "PFC, the name is Captain Hunter to you." obviously distraught that someone like that even got his name wrong. "And we are headed due west. Then we'll meet up with the rest of the Earth forces." he said with excitement. While he spoke, he looked up, and saw that the explosion did not delay the Covenant for long. His eyes reverted back to looking at Jason, and he spoke strictly, "MOVE!". He sprinted towards the rendezvous point as fast as he could.

[ razz I never said it would do anything major, maybe slow them down. ]

((Isn't Logan KIA/MIA?))

Spartan-103 moved silently through a particularly empty street. He was alone. The Other ODSTs were moving about en mass, keeping the Covenant occupied as best they could. His job was now to do what he did best, killing things. The rifle in his hands was the perfect tool for the job. It packed a moderate punch, but for serious work he would use the MA6K.

So far his motion tracker read all clear. He extended the range then brought it back down to fifteen meters when nothing showed. He had landed in the New Mombasa portion of New Mombasa, rather than Old Mombasa where a certain other Spartan had crash landed. Basically, as long as he didn't kill or injure a human intentionally, Spartan-103 could do whatever the hell he wanted to.

He continued moving forward until he made it to a rail-station. He decided that this would be a good a place as any to try to re-establish contact with any UNSC forces. There was an illuminated map of the New Mombasa metropolitan area with colored lines representing the maglev routes placed on top. To the side there were plenty of vid-phones and normal phones. There were two pillars with ticket machines on them, and a ramp up to the maglev platform. This was when he noticed the small red blips on his motion tracker. Judging from the way they ambled along, his guess was that they were grunts. He moved slowly as not to make himself known on any motion detecting device they might have and worked his way into the parking structure next door. Once there, he glanced around and noticed that one of the air vent covers was loose. He looked around, slung the MA5B, and jumped as far as he could. He grabbed the ledge with his outstretched hands, and grunted slightly when he pulled himself up. He might be a Spartan, but he was still a human.
Once inside the vent system, he replaced the cover as best he could and made his way to a better vantage point. From where he was now, he could see out into the entire station. As he had suspected, a squad of grunts under the command of a blue armored elite moved slowly through the complex. They turned and began to head over the rails themselves when a maglev train shot across them, instantly killing the elite and one of the grunts. The train was moving too fast, which meant that it was out of control. Ten minutes later and a train heading in the opposite direction shot by. Apparently the Covenant had knocked out the maglev control station, sending all of the trains into a terminal velocity regardless of who was in them at the time. The UNSC forces would need to know about this. He primed a M9-HEDP fragmentation grenade and hurled it into the remaining grunts. They weren't sure what it was, but realized when the explosion of the grenade and their methane tanks tore them to shreds. He opened the CommandCOM channel and spoke.
"All units be advised, maglev trains are out of control."
He closed his personal link to the channel, but continued to listen in the event that any information pertinent to him happened to show up.

Jason followed close behind Captain Hunter as he apologised. "Sorry, Captain Hunter. But remember, I only arrived on the Laviathen a few days ago." Jason saw a few grunts back to back and shot one of the methane tanks. The resulting explosion triggered the other two tanks and they went sky high, or rather what was left of them. "Kind've hard to remember everyone's name."

As the Sarge prepared for the drop, he grabbed everything that he would need. He loaded everything in to his drop pod and hit the release button. Everything seem to come naturally to him and this was probably the best that he could do for his fellow soldiers. This was his time... maybe to die...maybe to shine...but in all... it was glory!
PostPosted: Mon Jul 16, 2007 3:26 pm

Morgan wrinkled his nose and spat on the ground while he ran, waiting till they got somewhere safer before he answered Jason. He was still running full-speed. Daniel, whom they had designated as Diablo, and Jake, designated as Archangel, sped towards the rendezvous point, with Jason on their heels. They reached it in a matter of seconds, the Covenant were still coming, and they were in deep s**t.

Logan was already at the meeting point, and greeted Morgan as he got there, and pulled them into the destroyed building, peeking out slowly. He opened up an encrypted COM channel to Team Nobody and Jason. "Desperado, your lacking one soldier. SPARTAN-103 reported that the maglev trains are out of control. Maintained radio silence up until now." he said, no emotion in his voice.

Morgan looked up at the Spartan, and spoke into his squad COM. "Sir, I posted Mephisto to cover our 6 o'clock. I'll get him back." he said, angry that David wouldn't be allowed to do his own thing and pick off the Covenant. "Mephisto, head to our location. Call sign, Lord of Pain." As soon as he spoke, a zip line attached into the building they were in, and a figure came as fast as it possibly could at them. Detaching itself from the zip line before it hit the ground, it rolled, and sprinted the small four feet dash to them. It was David.

Team Nobody, and Spartan-108 slowly checked their surroundings, and prepared for the worst.

Jason lobbed a grenade straight at an oncoming group of Grunts and an Elite. The grenade had stopped in front of them and he waited for them to get close enough while aiming at the grenade with his pistol. When they got closer, he shot at the grenade. The resulting explosion encompassed the front Grunts, detonating their Methane Tanks. That caused the other Grunts' tanks to explode and encompass the rest of them, including the Elite. "Six down, plenty to go."
