So what are some things you recomend for certain injuries?

What I did for my girl when she came down with colic really bad *we wern't sure if she'd make it* is I kept her in the house *it was winter outside and was really cold and I was sick to and the vet said to keep a close eye on her so the house seemed like the best bet xD heart -namley anyplace nice an warm, don't let them get cold-* And every 10 mins. give her at least 20CC's of either water of vegitable/olive oil with the siringe *she wasn't drinking... so we kinda had to make her -mind you we called the vet and they told us to-* Then every half hour to an hour we would take her out for a walk *when we went out we kept a warm blanket on her and I gave her one of my tukes for her ears* then when we'd come in un cloath her and take the snow out of her hoofs and keep repeting what we were doing for the rest of the night. It was gone by the next morning and she didn't seem to have any troubles or signs after that, but the rutine of the every 10 mins. either water or vegitable oil, keeping her warm and walking every half hour to an hour seemed to have made it go away and saved her life.

Do any of you guys have stories? What would you recomend not only for just colic but for other injuries and sicknesses?

For colic, depending on how bad the case is...

Its good to learn signs and what to look for. I would personally keep them warm and keep them moving. Get the vet ASAP, listen for gut noises (good) and passig poop.

Info on First Aid Colic Supplies.

If it was that bad of a case of colic to where she might not have made it, and your vet wasn't out there - I'd suggest finding a new vet. The only time a vet will probably not come out is if its a real mild case of colic, which then they will instruct you through.

I havn't had to do a lot of first aid, but there are situations I have been in that have been bad. Its best to get a book - I have a couple books on health and first aid in my tack box at the barn, along with an emergency first aid kit.

Thanks for posting the Link on Colic med. Child and I thought my Mare Dakota was colicing earlier since she was lying down but she did take a poo today which is a good thing and I checked her manure carefully to see any sand and I saw no sand in her manure pile, I think she only had gas or was just relaxing but I'll check on her tomorrow just in case she might be colicing.

My friend's OTTB was colicking (Mildly) once, and her trainer said to give him Pepto Bismol.
She did and he was fine. xd The horse liked the taste too.

Oh, he was fine. It was a while ago, he's all better. 3nodding
It's not really medicine meant for horses, Pepto's the pink stuff for nausea and upset stomach. It's people medicine.

Im having trouble seeing a horse take pepto bismol willingly lol

He did. 3nodding He's strange when to comes to food.
He won't touch an apple, or most horse treats and he doesn't care much for his feed. He plays with it and throws it around more than he eats it.
But he liked the Pepto, and he'll drink just about anything. Hay's his favorite thing in the whole world, because he never got it when he was on the track. He gets excited every time he sees hay. He also loves peppermints, green tea, gatorade and grapes.

Halo Lad is his name. Here's some pictures.

He's also got more problems than a math book. (He had a broken leg, tendon problems, thrush prone, allergic to flies and sheath cleaner...just a few of them.)

He broke it racing. He's better now, though. He's got a ton of leg problems, but his owner loves him to death and is fine with riding him a few times a month when he can handle it.
