What makes people so paranoid about dying that they surround themselves with stupid objects to 'prevent' the enevitable? Is it the thought of never seeing your loved ones again - or is it the pain associated with some forms of death? Is it wheether or not you die painfully or just grift away......
Personally I find the idea of death a release - I can't wait. I won't miss my family because I know that I will see them again but the idea of dying from cancer or a brain disease scares the s**t out of my - along with the idea of dying with no one special to hold my hand.
That's how death scares me - what about you?

I don't really see the point of this thread... Feels like it should be in GD or summat.

Meh, see how it goes before condemning it.
I'd say it is the simple fear of the unknown.
Me being a wimp, I would only actually fear the pain of dying. But whatever happens after that I don't know, so I see no use of being afraid of it. From by non-religious point of view, I bet I'll just be worm food.

I believe in reincarnation, but anywho, I'm not scared of dieing. It's natural and inevitable. I don't worry about my family because it's human nature to let things pass. People only let things bum them for time after because they WANT it there.
Although I'm not scared of dieing, I wouldn't want anyone to die before their time. And whether I die from cancer or any other fatal disease, well, then, I would rather be put to rest if there was no chance of recovery, instead of my family clinging to my vegetable like form. Maybe a potato.

I figure, as Vajra B. Hairava said, it stems from a fear of unknown. I'd also add that it comes from a fear of simply ceasing to exist - all those happy times are gone, never to return. Worm food doesn't sound very fun, y'know? Regardless, its inevitability doesn't make we want to die tomorrow or anything.

Because we as humans fear the unknown.
And this seems to be the general consencus.

I'm terrified of death. Why? There are so many things I've never done in my short fifteen years on this planet. I've never kissed a girl, never had sex, a job, never got married, never had kids, never went through a mid-life crisis, never grew old, and never met my grandkids. I've never lived life.
I'd be a lot more at peace with my death if I ever accomplish those things first.

You could "have a life" without doing any of that.

Certainly, but doing all that would definitely contribute.

Sure. Everyone fears death for one reason or another. I, personally, fear death because I'll just be Worm Food untill my body decays into nothingness. There is no Hell, no Heaven, above us only sky. Well, in my opinion at least.

You spend your whole life doing things. It doesn't matter how long... five years, maybe 100... probably somewhere in between. People spend their lives doing things, collecting things... And death is just the ultimate realization. So many things left undone, unsaid. So many things that are regretted.
That's why I'm scared of death. I know, deep down, that there are still things that I need to come to terms with. I don't want to die with regrets hanging heavy on my heart. Death will be a wonderful release when my time comes. I'm just scared I won't be ready for it.

I'd like to feel satisfied before I do. I have plans for the world and I'd rather not die 'till I'm done. But if a ... dunno. orphanage or something is in terrible danger that I can get them out of, I don't think I would mind dieing. But not for some stupid reason or cause. I want to feel like I did something, for someone. Changed someones world, even for just a little bit.
