The Current Situation

There have been more and more Daemon gang attacks reported in the last year than in the last three years combined. The New Earth Defense Force is in a panic and is trying to find out what the problem is as fast as they can, but they have no leads so far. The few informants that the N.E.D.F. has aren't able to bring any useful information, and the Neo-Human information network is bringing in nothing as well. The number one priority is to find out what is causing the sudden, and startling, uprise in Daemon activity.

The Places and Things

This is where all the non-training and non-mission stuff goes. This is where your characters eat in the mess hall, hang out in the lounge, sleep in the dorms and pretty much everything else that might happen. Just have fun and let your characters do what they want to do here.

(Medical to Training Room/To find the Professors)

Kiri awoke with a groan. Wh-Where am I? Medical? Oh, yeah. The mission.

Hoping it was all just a bad dream, she sat up. About 5 seconds later, she was leaning over the side of a bin dry-heaving. Mathias, just one cot over, heard her and stirred. Stumbling out of the cot, god was he sore, he went over to Kiri and held her head for a bit. After a while, she stopped, but still didn't remove her head from the bin. Mathias heard sobbing coming from her.

Well, I suppose its only natural. She was almost that Mantis's lunch. he thought to himself. "Kiri? Come on, you're okay now."

Her head snapped up and she glared at him angrily. "I am not okay. Because of me, you were almost killed. Because of me, you weren't there to help Mike when he needed you. I went on this mission not only because I was asked to, but because I thought that maybe I could help keep you and the others safe. I failed."

Pushing him away, she stormed out and headed down to her workshop. She knew she was being a bit unreasonable, its not like she was completely useless the entire mission, but right now, that one moment overtook all others. Mathias wanted to follow, but he decided it might be best to find the Professors and report in.

][Uh...Yeah, this was in the other forum, because I forgot we had a guild now. sweatdrop My bad][

As Eli was rocketing back to base aboard the pod he came a realization, s**t...I...think I'm bleeding to death... the thought came slowly and without the strength he was used to, Gotta do...something.... And with that, Eli used what little focus he had left and concentrated the light in the pod to cautarize the wound through his leg. Heh...Great...One more...scar....for the collection... This was the last thought he had as he slipped into unconciousness as the pod arrived at the hanger and a medical team was called by the Neo-Human technichians.

][Don't forget that you have a wrist comm. If you ever need to find someone in particular just give them a call.][

Mike was unconscious for a long time and when he awoke he was staring at the curtains of the Med Bay. He frowned at the curtains not understanding. Then he remembered what had happened and he was consumed with rage. His eyes glowed a bit as he sat up and walked towards the door.

A Neo-Human nurse caught his arm and told him he needed to be checked by a doctor. Mike complied and the Neo-Human doctor came in and did the standard medical check for injuries incurred on a mission and was told to be on his way. Mike jumped onto a mag lift and shot straight for the training floor, he had to let off some steam.

Eli slowly came back to awareness the next day to find himself in fairly unfamiliar surroundings. The Hell...Where am I? he thought groggily, then he tried to move his right leg and remembered, Oh...Right...Those elite deamons. Must be in the med bay. Heh...I guess this means we survived, he thought as he smirked and surveyed the damage to his leg. Huh...That's a pretty damn good scar. I think we should wear shorts more often...Wait...Did I just say 'we'? No...No, I didn't...I think... Deciding he didn't want the doctors bothering him as he left, he shifted to invisibility and limped out of the med bay, Huh...Still a little stiff, but those guys did a pretty good job. Hmm, maybe I should work it out a bit... he thought as he headed to the training room.

Even as he was leaving the Medical Bay, Mathias's wrist comm was at his mouth.

"Professor Luminos, Field Agent Coriska reporting in for debriefing. Please transmit your location so that I may report on the progress of our mission."

Will heard the call on his Wrist Com and called back to Mathias, "Agent Coriska, report to the conference room for debriefing." Will looked over at the semi-ready Sara and cocked an eyebrow as though to ask whether she was coming along or not. She shook her head and Will got up and walked out of the room and to the mag lift so he could make it on time... maybe before Mathias. Will smiled as the lift began to go up.

Mathias nearly laughed at himself. He had literally just passed the Conference Hall not more than two minutes ago. Going back, he stepped inside and stood at attention, sure that the Professor would be there in mere minutes.

Will zipped up to the door of the conference room and noticed that Mathias was already in the room. He was slightly irked by the student beating him, but it wasn't a real competition anyway. He stepped into the room and gave a short salute before saying, "At ease agent."

He stood at the front of the room and asked, "What happened on this mission that sent more of our boys home hurt than in the last 122 missions combined?" He waited anxiously for the response. 'This had better be good.' He thought.

"Glane and Wreak happened, sir." Mathias knew that the Professor wasn't going to like this, but he recounted the mission exactly the way it happened.

"I've never seen anything move that fast, sir. Even with my powers activated, I couldn't keep up with it. And I have a complaint about the choice to include Kirana on this mission. While she performed as well as could be expected, this was not the type of mission she was trained for. She told us her specialties lay in infiltration, sniping, and systems analysis. This was an extermination, sir. A slaughter. She was completely unprepared for close-quarters combat or the mental fortitude required for it."

Mathias felt his temper rising, but he tried his best to keep it under control. It was true, though. While an excellent marksman, he had never seen her fight hand-to-hand. He'd have to fix that...

Will cocked his eyebrow at the mention of Kiri being on the mission, "Kiri has been requesting mission detail for the past three months. She knew what she was getting into when I gave her the mission details before the rest of you." Will paused as he looked at Mathias, "As it stands, this mission was to throw some wrenches into the Daemon undergrounds gears. Being that Glane and Wreak are still alive your mission was a failure. Mike has already submitted a full report and he has suggested that we leave Kirana out of the next mission he seemed to think she was more of a distraction to you then a help to the mission. This will depend on her of course, she asked to be on the mission last time and whether or not she decides to go on another will be up to her."

Will paused for breath and then said, "If that is all Agent then you are excused." Will then waited for any question that Mathias may have had.

Mathias gripped his hands tightly at his sides. Distraction? He DARES talk to me about distractions!?

Mathias couldn't contain himself and felt pretty sure he could confide in Will his doubts.

"Sir, I'm afraid that I find it hard to take Mike's assessment of Kiri's impact on me seriously after I had to pull his a** out of the mission the last time. He went berserk. We all joined this group for different reasons. I don't know why you joined, sir, but I do know that Mike is here for one thing. Revenge. He willingly puts the mission, not to mention the rest of us, in danger with his insane charges. MY purpose for being here is to make sure no one ends up like my sister did. It's not just Kiri I would lay my life on the line for, sir. It's everyone else. As a Neo-Human, her combat capabilities are significantly less than ours. Scientific fact. Mike thinks she's green? Fine. She is. But if he expects her to stop being green, she has to make it back from the mission alive. I did what I thought needed to be done. As for Kiri, she will be prepared for the next mission. I promise that. Whether or not she goes on it is, like you said, up to her."

Mathias then kept quiet, certain he'd probably be reamed out for bad-mouthing a friend and ally. Regardless, he only spoke what he knew from experience. Mike, as much as he respected him, was a loose cannon and more of a danger to himself and everyone else than he realized. Mathias wasn't angry at him, or Will for that matter, he just wanted to see everyone come home at the end of the mission.

"Agent you are out of line," Will said calmly, "Mike knows how to do his job and he's willing to put his life on the line for it. As an Agent we must all put our lives at risk every time we exit this facility. Mike has his problems but so do you. You are too emotionally connected to your allies. I see that as a positive quality for an Earthling, but a bad quality in an Agent. You also don't know the reason that Mike is here." Will paused to let that set in. "Mike is here against his will. We recruited from prison because he killed a man. That man was his father." Will paused again to let that set in as well.

"Mike may want revenge but his life is the Mission. He is willing to die to make sure that the mission is completed. And that is exactly the kind of person that we look for in an Agent. If we had more people that dedicated to the cause there would be no Daemons left."

"You are here to stop the Neo's? We work with them on a daily basis. They are intricately involved in the N.E.D.F. and if you don't like that fact then you don't need to be here. We are here to fight the Daemons. If you die in that cause you will be replaced. That is all there is to it."

Will started walking towards the door when he stopped and said to the wall but obviously meaning Mathias, "The next time you have a problem with what your job is, make sure you stop at the brig before you come to me." He walked out and left Mathias to his own devices.

Mathias punched the wall, sending energy up its surface. He thinks he knows me? Bullshit. He may have read my personnel file, but that was compiled a year ago. A lot can happen in a year. What I meant was that I don't want to see anyone die needlessly. Mission before your allies, hmm? I think not.

If he was as expendable, then let them see how they do without him. Taking his wrist-comm in hand, he sent a message containing his resignation to the Professors, then sent a large electrical charge through it, shorting it out. Throwing it into a nearby incinerator chute, he went to collect his things.

Kiri was on her way back from the range and lost far in thought. Am I really cut out for this? My passion is inventing. Not combat. I hate it. What am I going to do.

Passing Mathias's room, she heard rustling inside. Opening the door, she saw him packing.

"What are you doing?" she called softly.

Mathias, not looking up, answered. "Leaving. Apparently, I'm too 'emotionally connected' to my teammates. Bah, whatever. I'm not a machine. I don't want to see anyone else die. For any reason. There is no such thing as a 'good death.' There's just death. And now, retirement. Stay on Mike's good side. Maybe you'll stick around."

Kiri shook her head. "No. I was just contemplating leaving as well. I'm an inventor and a hacker. I don't want to see anyone die either, though I suppose I'm even softer than you. Killing those daemons last night, it didn't bring me any sort of peace. Give me ten minutes, and we can leave together."

Mathias nodded and Kiri ran out. True to her word, less than ten minutes later, she had all of her things in a small backpack and the two walked towards the doors.

][Mathias and Kirana are no longer involved in the story line. We will have to make due without them.][

The Professors got the call stating that Mathias had resigned and then a call from Kirana not long afterwards saying that she would be taking her practices elsewhere. Will was not terribly surprised after the display that had just gone on in the conference room. He was not pleased about loosing a team member, they would have to recruit another Agent and a new head technician. 'Great.' Will thought, 'Another thing to worry about.' He shook his head in resignation. What was going to happen would happen and that was all there was to it.

Sara looked at her wrist com and frowned as she found out that Mathias and Kiri were resigning. She was very fond of both of them but she was used to having to deal with loosing companions. She knew that it was inevitable of all Agents. They either retired or they died, some sooner than others.

Kaili sobbed as she heard the news. She hated it when people left the compound. They never came back. Her sobs could be heard down the hall.

Chris stood up and decided that he needed to train out his feelings. He was not able to take such things lightly and he didn't like it when he felt negative emotions.
