General Rules

[1] Obey the Gaia TOS.

[2] Obey the Guild Rules

[3] Obey the leader(s) of the RP: darkmag07
Their decisions are final in all cases. Although they can make mistakes, most often they are trying to maintain fariness. If you don't like a decision you can quit the RP, no one is making you stay. Any decisions will be dealt with via PM and a final ruling will be made public via the OOC Thread with a lengthy opinion from the RP Leaders.

[4] Try to be literate as possible.
If you can't spell well on your own try typing your post in a text editor with a spelling/grammar checker like Word and pasting it to post. This will also help prevent your post from being "eaten" when Gaia's posting system messes up and loses your post.

[5] Read everyone elses' posts.
If you're new to the RP or weren't online for an extended period just read a few pages back to get the idea of what is going on. Reading every page, however, is highly appreciated.

[6] Don't god mod.
In essence this RP is turn based. You're allowed one action (magic casting, attacking, dodging, etc) toward other players in the event of a duel. If you're working with someone, give them a chance to respond to your actions.

[7] Don't quote or use emoticons in the RP. They aren't needed. Use words to convey your message.
It is however acceptable to use a different color font (so long as it isn't an obnoxious, hard to read color), different sized fonts, bold, italics, etc.

[8] Don't mess with your character information.
Even if you have mod powers. The RP leaders will update everything as needed.

We reserve the right to add more rules as needed. This roleplay is a work in progress. More explanations/rules will come as issues arise in the roleplay.

Character Creation

Here is a sample character form. It tells you what you should fill out. Do NOT repost this here. Copy and paste the code version, fill it out, and then PM it to me, darkmag07. If your stuff checks out then I'll add your character to the character thread and you'll get a reply telling you it is safe to RP. If you see your character in the character thread you can RP even if you don't see a response message from me.

If you have exceptions you wish to make to the character (like a FO starting with a saber for example) you can discuss them with me and we will find a reasonable solution to have your character the way you want but still fit into the PSO Universe.

You are allowed to have more than one character only after you have been active in the roleplay for a significant amount of time, most likely when your character reaches level 10.

Sample Character

Battles

As the story progresses you will inevitably have some battles along the way. They're pretty straight forward as far as rules go. We like to do a semi-turn based battle system. So you have one attack/dodge and then you give the opponent a chance to either dodge or attack.

When you're battling an enemy you created (such as a Booma) you control both sides. Make sure you're fair and give the enemy a chance to hit you too. Keep in mind the combos of the game and don't exceed the limits they provide, but also keep in mind simple actions like kicking or punching. As long as it doesn't seem like god-modding we'll probably be okay with it.

When you battle an NPC (Non-player character) controlled by another person give them time to retaliate. Make one action in your post and give them a chance to fight back. No posts like "Tessa used his saber to get a 40 hit combo one hit KO-ing the NPC before they could strike." Seriously, if we see this kind of stuff you will be banned from the RP.

Same rules apply when battling characters that the other players play. When you want to battle make sure the other user wants to as well, don't just rush up and attack out of no where. You should discuss battles outside of the RP in either a PM or in the OOC (Out Of Character) thread that has been established for such interactions.

The roleplay will not use an official hit point or technique point scale. Think of these systems reasonably. For techniques it is sufficient to say that you can use as many techniques per skirmish as your current level. Techniques require a certain level of focus and leave you tired after use so using them too much would be just as dangerous as getting hit by the enemy. Energy would recover over time, but FO type characters and Newmans recover slightly faster than humans or non FO type characters. FO users can ignore these initial limits to some extent but you will be warned if you are going too over the top.

Mags

Ah yes, that loveable friend to all Hunters: the Mag. Mags level up at the same rate as your character. So if you are Level 1 so is your Mag. When your character reaches level 10 the Mag automatically upgrades into the Mag that belongs to your class. After that it can change at set intervals.

Check out the list of Mags here at PSO-World to see if the Mag you want can be obtained by your character or if you are not sure which Mag to get. It also lists the Photon Blasts and other relevant information about each Mag that you'd ever need.

Mag Growth Table

Level 10:
Mag > Class Mag

Level 25-49:
Class Mag > Evolution 2 Mag (of your choice) [E2M]

Level 50-74:
E2M > Different E2M or Evolution 3 Mag (of your choice) [E3M]

Level 75-99:
E2M > Different E2M or E3M or Stay the Same [STS]
E3M > Different E3M or STS

Level 100-124:
E2M > Different E2M or E3M or Stay the Same
E3M > Rare Mag [RM] or E3M or STS

Level 125-149:
E2M > Different E2M or E3M or Stay the Same
E3M > RM or E3M or STS
RM > STS

Level 150-174:
E2M > Different E2M or E3M or STS
E3M > RM or E3M or STS
RM > STS

Level 175-199:
E2M > Different E2M or E3M or STS
E3M > RM or E3M or STS
RM > STS

Level 200:
E2M > Different E2M or E3M or STS
E3M > RM or E3M or STS
RM > Use a Mag Cell or STS

Class Mag: Hunters: Varuna | Rangers: Kalki | Forces: Vritra
Evolution 2 Mag [E2M]: Any Mag that is classified as an Evolution 2 Mag by the given website. Make sure your class can get the mag you want to turn yours into. If your class cannot get it then look at others or find someone to trade it to during that phase of growth so that it will level up into the mag you want.
Evolution 3 Mag [E3M]: Any Mag that is classified as an Evolution 3 Mag by the given website. Same rules apply.
Rare Mag [RM]: Any Mag that is classified as an "Ep 1 & 2 New Rare Mags" or as an "Evolution 4 Mag" by the given website. Same rules apply.
Mag Cell Mag [MCM]: Any Mag that is classified as a "Mags Evolved from Mag Cells" by the given website. To get one of these you have to have a Rare Mag reach level 200 (aka your character is level 200) and then you can find the item to change it into the Mag you want. To get the Cell in the first place you have to do the SPECIAL WEAPON/Rare Item Quest.

Evolving Your Mag

Once your character reaches the appropriate level range you can PM your Mag changes to one of the RP Leaders or post your request in the OOC Thread. Keep in mind that your Mag will only learn 3 Photon Blasts and the first three times you evolve it will determine the ones you are stuck with for the rest of the RP. Of course there is always a chance that you'll find a new mag. Fill out the form below when you need to update your mag.

Character Name: Your character
Mag Level: Your level
Desired Mag: The Mag you want
Photon Blast: The Photon Blast the Mag gives you (if you don't have 3 already)

Photon Blast List

Estlla: A dolphin-like creature that attacks in a line in the direction the player is facing. The default PB for Ranger characters when their mag reaches level 10.

Farlla: A serpentine creature that attacks in small radius around the character. The default PB for Hunter characters when their mag reaches level 10.

Golla: An elk-like creature that attacks a single target for high damage.

Leilla: A mermaid-like creature that casts Resta and Anti. It can also revive characters that donate PB. The default PB for Force characters when their mag reaches level 10.

Mylla & Youlla: A pair of twin sprites that cast Shifta & Deband. It can also revive characters that donate PB.

Pilla: A holy creature that attacks in a large radius around the character.

Experience

Characters level up directly based on how many posts you make in the roleplay. More posts = more levels. Every post qualifies you for at least 1 point towards your level. The more well made the post is, the more points you get. A post that will qualify for the most experience and other bonuses will be at least a paragraph long (3-5 sentences). It will describe the action in the scene, the character’s thoughts and emotions, and anything else pertinent to that post. Small posts of only one or two lines of text will only be given one point of experience and no other bonuses.

As a general guideline, every 100 words added to the post will get you 1 point of experience, up to around 10 experience points. So if you make a 200 word post you'd probably get 2 experience. If you make a 457 word post, you'd probably get 4 experience. Defeating bosses can net you bonus experience points based on the difficulty of the boss. We would like to encourage you to make longer posts, but posts longer than 1000 words can be a drag to read, so keep it reasonably sized. If you want to split up a post into smaller chunks feel free, as there is no rule against double posting.

In addition to experience, you will also generally receive 100 Meseta per post. Additionally you will receive bonus Meseta when you level up equal to 100*(# of Posts Required for that Level). So someone going from level 25 to 26 would get 300 extra Meseta for the post since it takes 3 posts to get to level 26.

The points you receive per post is based on the evaluation of the RP Leaders. We will try to update the character status every week or at a set number of pages based on the activity level of the RP. That way you know how strong you are. Check the chart below to see how many posts you need to grow to the next level and what benefits each level gives you.

Level Up Chart

Levels 1-5: 1 Point Per Level [PPL]
Perks: Not really any. Sorry, you’re still too new.

Levels 6-25: 2 PPL
Perks: You can find and use any of the items from the “Level 1-10” or “Level 11-25” categories in the Shop Thread on your adventures on Ragol. You are now eligible for the Normal Rank SPECIAL WEAPONS/Rare Items Quest and can make a request to go on the Quest in the OOC Thread.

Levels 26-75: 3 PPL
Perks: You can find and use any of the items from the “Level 26-75” category or below in the shop thread on your adventures on Ragol. You are also eligible for the Normal (6+), Hard (26+), or Very Hard (50+) Rank SPECIAL WEAPONS/Rare Items Quest and can make a request to go on the Quest in the OOC Thread.

Levels 76-125: 4 PPL
Perks: You can find and use any of the items from the “Level 75-125” category or below in the shop thread on your adventures on Ragol. You are also eligible for the Normal (6+), Hard (26+), Very Hard (50+), or Ultimate Rank (75+) SPECIAL WEAPONS/Rare Items Quest and can make a request to go on the Quest in the OOC Thread.

Levels 126-200: 5 PPL
Perks: Ask and ye shall (more likely than not) receive whatever your heart desires.

Evaluation of the point system: To get a character to 200: (5+(20*2)+(50*3)+(50*4)+(75*5))= 770 posts @ 1 Per Post

Yeah seems like a lot but it won't be that hard to reach 200. Once you get into the groove of posting you should recieve more than 1 point per post. At an average of 2 experience per post only 385 posts are needed to get to 200. This may still seem considerable to some, but I deem this a fair amount to prove your dedication and commitment to the group.

Equipment/Items

Items that can be purchased can be found in the shop page. To buy an item post in the OOC Thread or PM a moderator that you are buying the item and then make sure you have a post where your character goes to the shop to pick up the item. One of the leaders will double check that you have enough Meseta or Mission Points and if everything checks out they will make necessary changes to your profile by including the item, reducing the Meseta, etc.

Most SPECIAL WEAPONS and Rare Items are obatined through the SPECIAL WEAPON/Rare Item Quest. But several can be bought in the shop for enough Mission Points when your character is the correct level. (These have yet to be added to the list but will include the rare items that are sometimes dropped from boxes in higher difficulties.)

Enemies will also drop items or Meseta. After an enemy is defeated a Mod will post if they drop an item. The first person to quote the item, who was involved in the battle, gets the item. Item drops like this are the only time it is acceptable to quote in the RP thread. It will not happen after every battle or enemy that is defeated but if you allow some time between posts it will happen relatively often. Sometimes the Leaders will just post random items. The first to quote it gets it and then can make up a quick scenario where they find the item.

Boxes work in the same manner as enemies. There will be a certain number of boxes per room and after the room is cleared a mod will make a post of the items available in each box. The first person to quote can pick an initial item, then each other person in the group can quote and get an item until all of the items are claimed. There will generally be enough items that each person can get at least one item, if not more than one.

As mentioned in the EXP Section, each post can also grant you 100 Meseta.

In the original game some items were limited use, in the RP that feels arbitrary as we do not use hit points or a technique point system. These items can be bought in the shops and are available for unlimited use after purchasing them. Please be reasonable and do not over use this privilege.

All items can be sold back to the shops for half of the price they would sell it for.

Section IDs

In the original game you could only obtain items based on your Section ID. In the RP this is not the case, you have access to all the items in the game so long as you go on a quest for them. If an item is in your ID you will have to make 2 less posts to obtain it in the SPECIAL WEAPON/Rare Item Quest.

Again, if someone else in the RP has an ID that can obtain the item you want, then you would be better off forming a team to hunt the item. If any player in the party for the Mission has the item in their ID drop list, the entire party gets the lower post requirement. This is to encourage you to work together! Check out the quest details in the Mission Thread for more information on this sytem.

Class Item Limits

In the original game, there were limits on which items characters could use. In the RP this doesn't really make sense since if you can pick it up, then you should be able to use it. So in order to facilitate people that desire to have unique weapons there is a Mission that will train you in the use of a specific item.

By doing the Cross-Class Weapon Training Mission you can gain access to use a specific item, and that item only. You will have to do the quest for each weapon outside of your character class. Unlike other quests there will be no reward other than the use of the weapon, and it will come at a high price (in MP or Meseta). See the Mission Thread for specific details.

Missions

Missions can be found in the Missions Thread. Your character can do missions based on their level. To get a mission go to the Mission Thread, find the mission you want, and then make a note that you want to do it in the OOC Thread. Then you can go to the RP and request the mission from the Hunter’s Guild. One of the mods will reply and fill you in on the details of the mission or deny you if you do not meet the requirements (exceptions can be made).

Missions will require you to make a certain number of posts and visit specific areas of Ragol. Each character going on the quest is required to meet the number of posts individually. As you post it is important to keep a header at the top of the post with the information below. This makes it easier on the moderators to keep track of the requirements and makes certain you get the rewards you deserve. Further, these headers apply to your character only.

Mission Header Example

Forest Fallacy #1A, Post 1 of 5

The rest of my post goes here. Blah blah blah. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. I hope someone out there is actually reading all the stuff I type up. I've put a lot of thought into this roleplay. In any case, this is about all you'd need to include in the post to reach the bare minimum requirements for posting in the RP.

For ease of use, you can copy and paste the code from below into the first part of your post.

MISSION NAME, Post # of #

Mission Points and Quest Link System

Missions will give you Mission Points. They can be used to get SPECIAL WEAPONS/Rare Items or to buy other bonuses for less than their Meseta value. Everyone participating in the mission gets their own copy of the reward, it is not divided among a group; this is so that you will not be discouraged from forming groups and going on adventures together.

Missions may be done at any time and in any order. The Quest Link System is designed to give you bonus rewards (usually Meseta or Mission Points) for doing the Missions in a certain order but it only applies for the first time you do them all sequentially. Every time you do a quest we will check if you have previously completed any quests in the set and apply the bonus if all the requirements have been met.

Helpful Tips

These tips all come from my personal experience with roleplays and are designed to make you into a better roleplayer. These aren't hard and fast rules, but things that can be helpful if you ever get into a slump or if you want to create a greater story.

[1] Keep a record of all your posts in a separate file.
This is great when you want to look something up you've done in the past without clicking through pages and pages of posts online. It also allows you to write posts in advance (where applicable) and save them to post later. Further, if you use a program like Word, it probably has spelling and grammar checking. This also keeps your posts from getting eaten by Gaia when the system goes down.

[2] In addition to your posts, keep any posts related to your characters from others in the same file.
That way you know which character you were talking to.

[3] It can be helpful to keep track of any NPCs you invent, in a separate file.
Keep info about their name, personality, appearance, etc. It's always fun to bring back old foes to sharpen your skills.

[4] If you're in a slump, set a goal such as 200, 300, 400+ words per post. Or to make a certain number of posts per day.
Use sites like Write or Die to keep track and help motivate you.

[5] Again, read every post!
But keep in mind that your character almost never knows as much about other characters as you know.

[6] Be familiar with the PSO 'universe'.
A great place to start is PSO-World. Get info on items, enemies, plot from the game, etc. and think about how you can use these things as part of your own story.
