So I called my psych. last night because I'm obviously manic...and she wants me to come in and she'll bring me down I just know it and that scares me because I don't want to be down I want to be up like this forever. God damn it. Even if it was just for 4 days...maybe she'll say to let it run it's course? But that's doubtful...god damn it.

I feel like an idiot now for calling ******** advice? Thanks.

Calm down and if you feel uncomfortable with her there is no way your condition will improve. Explain that you want to see a diffrent person.

Heh, my psych thinks I'm a hypochondriac. Bull ******** s**t. But it's kinda fun when I'm really manic to hear her like, asking why the hell I'm so hyper, and then I explain that I don't really know, and she's like, "but WHYYYYY?" and yeah. I wanna cuss her out, I think I will.
And dude, manic for 4 days? o.o I only stay manic forlike, 4 hours, tops, and then I crash, and then I get manic again. Meh, rapid cycling maybe. Iono.

But if you don't feel comfortable with your psych, tell her that. Psych's work for you, so if you hate her, tell her.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think I'm as manic anymore - I guess my test will be when I go out shopping (I wanted to buy 17 different colored shirts in one style and didn't care how much money it costed...). My psych. just put me on more mood stabilizers and took me off my anti-d. She thought that was kicking me into overdrive. She also thinks my dad's bipolar. That's a laugh riot, because he probably is. ^.^;;; It's genetic, isn't it? Or can it be? I don't know. Heh. But thanks for the responses/advice. it's really appreciated.

Yeah, it's genetic. My mum is, and it runs on my father's side too, he probably is.

Interesting. Very interesting. I think that my father is bipolar, but I'm not sure. And I can't say anything to him about it, because he'd get upset. *sigh* Thanks hun. heart

I don't know that the disorder itself is genetic, but the predisposition to get it, most definately is.

Interesting...I'd be curious to see what my predisposition to getting bipolar is. Heh.

It's probably uberly-high considering all the other mental disorders my family has (depression, OCD, etc.).

I'm not positive on this, but...
Bipolar, OCD, Schitzoaffective Disorder, and other mental disorders such as those are all very similar kinds of genes, I think. If you yourself have one of these disorders, lets take Bipolar for instance, and you have a child with a non-bipolar, non carrier of the genething, then your child will have a small percent change of developing it, however they will almost positively carry the gene even if they don't develop it. If you have a child with a bipolar person, or someone who is a carrier, they have even more of a chance. The predisposition gets higher the more Bipolar people are added in the gene pool. This is exactly why I'm never going to have kids. I refuse to make them go through the same s**t as me and other people I know. It's just not fair to the kid. I'll adopt, maybe.

I'm a lesbian and my partner and I are planning on adopting kid - we both come from shitty backgrounds and want to give a child a better life than what we endured as children. It's sweet that you wouldn't want to put your kid through what you've gone through. Hell, I wouldn't want to either. It's not fair to the child, as you said. ^.^

i've got al ot of bipolar going for my kid. my boyfriend and i are both bipolar, and our parents are crazy, and our grandparents... but it's hard to just say you'll adopt. never knowing the joyo f giving birth to your own child that is the flesh and blood of both you and the one you love. it's a ******** hard thing to deal with.

How it works is this; If your family has absolutely no history of being bipolar, but suddenly your mom becomes bipolar (before your birth or recently after it), then you have a 50% chance of getting that gene. From there, you have a 1/4th chance of being bipolar yourself - but only if your dad is 100% clean of the bipolar genes.

Does anyone know if the bipolar gene is recessive or dominant? question ((WOW! I actually learned something in seventh grade!)) I think it is recessive... if it is, then that data I said up there is correct or about accurate.

And before I go into detail about all of this, I would like to know if anyone really cares about the straight facts.

I think it depends, like red hair is dominate over light blond hair, but recessive to brown, I think it is dominate in my family, my aunt has it bad, i have it and i think my mom has traits that go with it

I don't think bipolar is entirely gene related, though. There are several kinds of mental disorders including cases of bipolar that were developed without family history. But theoretically, in the case of simple dominance, your percentages are correct. However, in the case of codominance, sex-link, or compleex dominance, they may not be right, but I haven't a clue about the nature of the gene...they don't teach us anything about the brain at all in my school...
