I was watching some show on tv, and this guy was talking about how his brother had been getting into trouble with the law since he had graduated high school by dealing drugs, robbing, and some other things that I can't remember right now. One day, police had showed up at the house looking for this guy's brother, and he promptly showed the police where he was. He said that he felt tha this brother needed to be saved from himself.
And it got me thinking...
What would you do if someone in your family was getting in trouble with the law and police came knocking on your door looking for them?
Would you protect your family member and lie, or would you hand them right off to the police? Why or why not?

Depends what the police want them for. Say, its murder. If my brother ran into a preschool and took a shotgun to some toddlers, I'm turning him in. Say he murdered the rapist of our hypothetical sister or something of that sort, I wouldn't. Just because hes in trouble with the law, doesn't necessarily mean he did something deserving punishment, in my opinion.

Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie. I ******** hate the cops. I don't care what a person has done, they're still better than a cop. Cops kill innocent people all the time. Cops killed an 11-year-old boy here in LR, AR. He was holding some chips and they thought it was a gun. And they thought an 11-year-old was an adult suspect they were looking for. So they shot him down. Dead.

Huh? What sort of retarded cop thinks kid with chips = man with gun? I don't think thats because he was a cop, just an incredibly stupid stupid man.

The cops around my area are awesome. I've gotten in trouble a couple of times, but they're rather lenient to insignificant crimes, (I stole a candy bar), and don't take people to jail when they do deserve it. For example, a police officer found a teenager doing hard drugs. Instead of sending him to jail and making him a felon, he gave him another chance and helped turn his life around. So, possibly.

It reminds me of this movie I saw called Cornbread, Earl and Me. At the beginning, there was a kid who was the pride of his neighborhood, and he was going to go to college on a basketball scholarship. Then, he was running home in the rain, and the cops thought he was their suspect, and shot him in the back. Then his friend ran through town shouting, "They shot Cornbread!" It was soooo sad.

Cops have never done a good thing for me. My cousin's dad is a cop, and he's a total jerk who abused his sons.

See, those kind of cops should be fired and punished in a big way. Even if that was the suspect, being only a suspect, theres no reason to shoot the guy. But as Karla says, some cops can be good. I think that since some people are smart and some are stupid, the same applies to cops.

Of course. If the system worked, thats how it would be. But as we all know, things seldom work how they are supposed to, especially in the realm of government/authority.

Honestly, the cops that are in the area around where I live are total assholes. The speed limit in the 'village' part of the town is 30 mph and I know at least 10 people who have gotten tickest for going 31-33 mph on that road...the cops really have nothing better to do.
But if you think about it, if cops show up at your house asking for your mom/dad/brother/sister, even if you knew why, what would your first instinct be?

Ask why, and decide if their reason is valid.

The cops set up speed traps in Fort Worth all the time. There's this one part of the road where EVERYONE goes over the speed limit. If everyone else is doing it, you have to go the same speed to be safe. But the cops parked on a side road and pulled over about every 3rd car. And they did it on a road that curved around so that you had no choice but to drive past the cops again. A fear tactic.

If they have a good reason, probably. And a warrant. But otherwise, no. My brother and I both smoke pot and he usually has atleast an ounce in his room, which could get him in alot of trouble, not to mention the vaporizer, pipe, bong hundreds of papers and the burnt blades sticking out of his stove burner. xd
