About the band!

Panic Channel got their name from the idea that the band is like a television, where you can change back and forth between different channels without warning. They describe themselves as a "2nd page nature species band", or ni mensei gakutai.
The English is more of a bad website-translator result, "A band with two faces" is more of an exact translation. So as implied, Panic Channel has two personas: a pop-rock band and a visual band.
The pop-rock band PANIC™ch dresses in stylish street clothes... well, some of them at least! Their stage outfits are not costumes, but just the clothes they wear every day. Jeans and tshirts, and the like. Some people consider them oshare, but they're really not, and completely avoid the label. The visual band, "Panikku Channeru",wears dark, gothic costumes, heavy makeup, color contacts, etc of visual kei.

For convenience's sake, on this site the pop-rock band will be referred to as PANIC, the visual band as Panikku, and the band in general as Panic Channel. If you're wondering how the band themselves calls each side, they actually have problems doing so! PANIC™ch and Panikku Channeru are pronounced the same, so they use different terms to specify which side. They will say either "c-h" (pronounced "see eichi"), "the one in English", or "the pop-rock side" for PANIC™ch, and Panikku Channeru is most often referred to as kote no hou.. or "the gothy side".
Their music obviously also reflects the change between rock and visual. At the start of the band, much of their songs sounded alike and there wasn't a dramatic difference, but recently both sides of Panic have developed to create their own unique and defined styles. PANIC's music is more happy and bouncy with silly English lyrics, and they also branch out into freestyle rock. Panikku's is darker and heavier with frequent screaming, headbanging and rush songs, with some slower and sadder ballads as well. However, it's at the live performance when you see the most dramatic change between bands. PANIC is very fun and interactive, the boys acting friendly and cute, with lots of choreographed dancing to the songs. They're big on stuffed animals, poking fun at each other, doing silly things on stage and lot of smiling. But watching Panikku is like an entirely different band; they act over-the-top 'tough' and stereotypically visual, staring down the audience, flipping the middle finger, etc. It's almost funny to see them try to suffocate their usually vibrant personalities and occasionally catch an accidental smile. Meguru often spits out creepy blue stuff, and lately has taken to scratching himself until he bleeds.
The band is usually treated as two totally separate bands; ie PANIC will not play Panikku's songs at a live and vice versa (the only exception is Kodoku mousou, which is sometimes played at the end of PANIC's sets). Onemans used to be one live split into two sides, each band getting its own set time, but they have been having separate side onemans too. In the past, they used to use the kanji ¬—”Ô‘g (konran bangumi) for lives when both sides of the band play at once, but this is not so frequent anymore. Those four kanji are often seen, as they are the Japanese-ifying of "panic channel", literally meaning "confusion television program". They also use the numbers 829 to represent themselves, as together they can be read "panikku".
