So most of us here have heard of abortion, what it is and what it does. But what is your opinion on it? And please, when you say your opinion please give a reason so we can understand why you feel that way. Should it be illegal? Which is worse; abortion or murder?

In my opinion, I have no problem with abortions, and I would get one in a heartbeat, because I'd never want to be a mother, ever. Even though I'm a Christian and follow the church, I'd still get one.
But there are people that have good reasons why, if a teenager is raped and can't take care of the child then of course they should be able to get one, without their parents telling them what to do. In some rare cases, a person can die while giving birth, and their only option is abortion.
I find it much better than putting it up for adoption. They won't know who their parents are, and why they didn't want them.
Abortion should never be illegal, because they'll never get rid of it. If it ever becomes illegal than girls can still get abortions, from places that offer illegal abortions. And can get sick, and possibly die or get various STDs, from them using bad needles. Or they can just hurt themselves, which is much worse, and get a miscarriage by force.
And last I would say murder is much worse than abortion, for many reasons: When an abortion is done, nobody knows the fetus or will miss it, in a murder, relatives, friends and just anybody can get affected by the death of loved one. I see unborn fetuses as plants, they currently have no conscience, can't move around or do basically anything except sit there, eat and grow. People who are born can move around, talk, think and have do things themselves, while fetuses cannot.

Now that I've said what I think, what do YOU think about abortions?
Should they be illegal?
Which is worse; abortion or murder?

I agree. I also don't have a problem with abortion, especially if a person's been raped or something. And yes, no matter what people try to do about it, nothing will ever be a solution. Making it illegal would only make other situations worse.

Though, I do have a problem with people who will do it with anyone then get abortions constantly, like some of the hookers in my city and elsewhere. Those children could be given up for adoption I'd say.

I knew this one guy though, who had been adopted and he hates that fact. I also know some people who would have been aborted and they turned out to be successful people who love their lives.

For me, this topic is hardest to put a firm opinion on :s I'd say abortion has alot to do with circumstances and the people in them. But, that's just my opinion, nothing more.

In short: I don't think abortion is wrong.

Quote:
I don’t believe in abortions. If you can open your legs on your own you better know what you’re getting into is how I feel. (It's called protection people, using two forms not just one!) However, if a person is raped they have every right to get an abortion. Because that hadn't been done willingly. So I believe it should be legal for some cases but not all. And I believe abortion is murder, so they're both wrong.

Personally, I would never get an abortion. Even if it was by my own stupidity, I would not get an abortion or even put the baby up for adoption. I could not stand doing that to my own future child, so I would keep it.

I believe, however, that other women may get an abortion for their own personal reasons. Such as rape or if they would die otherwise. Or if they just don't want to have the baby. I do not see abortion as murder, I could just not bare to kill something that otherwise would be my own child.

My mother is very strong on her belief that abortion is "a woman's choice" and anyone who has been raped or cannot afford to have a baby should get an abortion.

Personally, I'd never get one myself- I've always wanted a child no matter what the price. But I understand there are those that feel differently, and so I don't mind them getting abortions. I'm not sure why I feel this way, though- maybe it's my mother's influence.

I personally would never get an abortion. In fact I have an adroablly beautiful 18 month old girl who was not planned. I feel abortion should only be used in rare circumstances like rape or if the mother would not survive the pregnancy. Part of my feelings are due to the fact that when my mother was pregnant with me and my sister (yes I'm a twin) my grandfather told her to get an abortion, lucky for us she didn't.Personally I would only get one if I would die in the process of carrying the baby to term. The child may have questions but I feel atoption is a better solution than abortion. There are many people out there who would make great parents but can't have kids of there own.

You may not realize this but sometimes the woman who has the abortion misses the fetus very much, even to the point of being simular to post partum depression. Yes a lot more people will miss the already existing person but the fetus does still have an impact on someone. The fetus can also move even from an fairly early point in development. Even the mother doesn't feel the fetus move until 5 or 6 months but it does move.

Sorry for my gripe but I actually did a report on abortion for a class once. It was an oral communication class and the topic was weither or not abortion should be legal.

I do agree it should be legal but this is mainly because as you said those people who really want one will find a way to get one anyway, this may include hurting themselves. So therefore I find it better to have it legal than illegal.

As for which one is worse, I feel abortion is a form of murder if not as violent. Actual murder is still worse because of the amount of people it affects. However for those stupid girls who use abortion as a form of protection I think they should be put in jail the same way a murderer would be, at least that way they could no longer get pregnant. The pill isn't that expensive and it does work or hell just use a damn condom or BOTH.

I believe in abortion but not as a form of contraception.

Ah! I did a project on abortion myself when I was in 9th grade. And I did read about a lot of that stuff (With women becoming depressed and all after getting one). But this point right here. I'm kind of mean, I disagree with that. I think that if it were illegal, and people went around the law, and got it done anyway, then hurt themselves because of it, it was their fault and they deserved it. Though it was because so many people had gone to get one (when it was illegal, I forget when) that it became legal.

I have debated with myself on whether I should answer this topic or not every time I come into the guild. Finally, I decided that I would tell my story and let the chips fall where they may. I am someone who has had an abortion. Now, before I am drowned out by all the gasps of shock and horror, let me explain. Number 1, I was 19 and already had a 6 month old baby. Number 2, the doctor told me that I would not be able to carry the child full term, due to the fact that I got pregnant too soon after having the first one. Number 3, there was something wrong with the child and it would not be a successful "term" baby. they told me that if I tried to carry it to full term, then both me and the child would die. I had to consider my first child also. So I decided that I would abort that child and my father and step-mother agreed and helped me with that. About a year later, I got pregnant again and that child was a full-term baby but she died when she was 8 weeks old, from S.I.D.S. At the time, I felt that I was being punished for my earlier decision. It has taken me many years to come to terms with the decision that I made. But, that is my story. I feel that abortion should be a choice between the powers that be and the mother to be. I don't feel that there should be pressure to have one or not. I was very glad that I had people with me who understood what I was going through and were willing to help me either way. Incidentally, up until the point that they told me my chances of dying were high, we were still planning on me having it and giving it up for adoption. When they told me, practically guaranteed me, that the child would not survive no matter what, that is when I made my decision. OK, now you may continue with your shocked reactions.

I'll go ahead and share my story aswell, I've also had an abortion, and the main reason to why is because i was 14 at the time. Way too young to be able to take care of a little baby. I knew i wouldnt be able to do that and i knew that it was the right choice, well sure i think about it now and then but i dont regret it. and i think its your own choice, i wouldnt blame anyone that wanted an abortion. and i definatly dont think abortion is murder, thats just silly in my oppinion.

I think that it is very brave of you to come forward with your story, in spite of what alot of people may think about it. I'm sorry that you had to deal with so much in such a short period of time. I am not yet a mother and don't know how I would handle such a horrible loss twice. Not that you need my approval, but I believe you did the right thing. I think that there are (if you can call them that) good reasons for an abortion. I don't believe in an abortion as a contraceptive. If a girl is too young, like fluffig, or incapable of carrying full term, than that is completely understandable. I myself have been passing over this topic since the day it went up. I didn't think I wanted to put my opinions out there either. I am pro-life and pro-choice. If I had to choose a side, I'd have to choose Pro-Choice. I don't think the government has a right to tell a woman that she can't do something as difficult as choosing an abortion. I believe women have the right to choose what happens to their bodies. If the child will live a horrible life, than why should a woman be forced to let that happen? Women who have been raped shouldn't be forced to have a child that will probably end up as a daily reminder of a horrific event. If, like LadyAmalthea, having one child may take you away from another, should you be forced to have it because of laws. If the government decided to outlaw abortions, then there would be underground abortion clinics, where women and the fetus would be put through inhuman conditions. It would be unhealthy, and unsafe. I have a very strong opinion on this, and was very hesitant to express my beliefs. Thank you LadyAmalthea for sharing your story and making me want to express my opinions. I couldn't have gone through what you've been forced to go through, and for that you have my upmost respect.

You are welcome BookBabe. As I said, I saw the topic several times before I finally did post. Wasn't sure what the response would be. But, some folks do need to know that there might be valid reasons for what they think is an abomination. Just my two cents worth.

I do and I don't.

With as many options as there are today if you get pregnant chances are it's your own fault. There are with most some VERY small percentage that they won't work. Condoms and birth control are everywhere, and unless YOUR not using them properly theres a very small small chance they won't work. Most of the time I've found people lie, say they use them but really don't.

So unless a person has taken all the possible percautions I don't beleive they should be able to. Theres medical reasons as to this(the mental and physical side effects. The small percentage that don't work and the child pops out with problems because of it), other options after having a child. The mental issues involved. If you seriously can aford to have a child, are to immature, ie not ready. Then you shouldn't be having sex in the first place then.

In the case of a woman doing it because she's raped I'm not really in favor of it. A child is innocent and the sins of the father shouldn't be placed on it. It's also apart of you and you should be eady to raise it as it is YOUR child. If someone is mentally unstable to the point they might kill themselves or it, then yes.

I think that it is a matter of opinion and beliefs. I personally don't believe that, but I respect your beliefs.
