Myles waits until the coast is clear, then slips down the hall and around the corner, and waits there for the others to arrive.

Jack casually walks down the hall and into the construction wing. He sees Myles waiting behind the corner. "Ok, now tell me, why did I just come over here?" He sits down and leans against the wall.

Xander sneaks into the construction wing, following behind Jack closely. "Woah, I think someone almost saw me, but I snuck by them." He sits cross-legged on the opposite wall of Jack. "So, why did we need to be so sneaky and come to this place?"

"Because I've got something here that we'll need." He steps to the first door and points at it.
"Watch and learn. The plaque on that door, with the runes on it, and the eye in the middle? That's a magic alarm. The door opens without a spell, the alarm triggers something else. Fortunately for us, the door and lock aren't magical at all, which means I can do this..."
He grows out his tail and uses it to take a small runed gemstone out of his pocket, and holds it in front of the eye. He takes a key and a pocketknife out of his other pocket, and talks as he goes to the doorknob.
"See, that's the weakness of using a half-and-half system like this. If the lock was magical, it could be tied directly to the alarm. But since the lock is mechanical, the alarm needs a patch to keep it from tripping when the key opens the door. The patch is usually attatched to the key intended for the lock, that's what the symbolic eye looks for, but since I'm using a bump key, I use the rune-stone to cover up the loose end, and... bingo."
The key in the lock, and a sharp tap to the key with the pocketknife, and the pins jump, letting him turn the key and open the door. "That's all it takes. Now we wait for Kento."

Kento looked behind her to make sure no one was following her, then walked over to where the others were. "I'm here."

Myles swings the door open and steps inside. "Okay, come on in quick."
Inside, there's a large open space, with half-finished supports, cloth-draped equipment, and a handful of construction golems standing dormant along the far wall.
"The space is waiting on plans to go through, so I've been using a storage room over that way for some things too big to make in the dorms. I get my own materials, so I'm not stealing anything here. Just using the space. I've got... something else in mind for storage that I'm working on, so I'll be out of here by the time construction starts up again."

Jack looks in the room. After Myles's explination, he become a little annoyed. "Okkk... well while this is all nice and dandy, what does it have to do with us? Why did we spend our time to come over to this place? What is the relavence of this trip?"

Myles walks over to the storage room ands opens it up. "The relevance is, I have something in here that will prevent posession. I can whip us up some simple talismans, we probably can't distribute them to all the students but we can protect ourselves."

"Talisman? I dont think it will work. The beasts have shown us that they are inteligent, and with the power of their magic, they will most definantly find a way around them." He starts to walk to the door, but stops half way. "Besides, the problem isnt keeping us from being controled. Its finding the one who is giving information and isolating them."

"It may not be the problem, but it is a problem, and a shielding talisman just might give the edge that makes a difference between fighting them off and letting them in. Let's say you know you're going to be in a firefight, and there's a high probability your enemy may be loaded with armor-piercing rounds. Would it make sense to just shrug and leave your Kevlar behind because of that?"

"Besides," he says as he walks into the storeroom, "the talismans aren't the only things I have in here. There's one thing in particular you might be interested in, if what I'm hearing about these creatures is correct."
He comes out holding a palm-sized metal sphere with a seam around the middle and a button with a safety catch on top. He moves his thumb to release the catch, depresses the button, and flings the device into the open space beside them.
There is no noise but the clattering of the two empty halves of the sphere's shell on the masonry of the floor. However, the air is filled with tiny but brilliant lights that fill the air with an omnidirectional glow which leaves no shadows.
He walks out into it and smiles. "I call it a wisp grenade. I have no idea what the person who commissioned it from me needed it for, but I received a hefty spool of some extremely hard to find coaxial line in return for designing it and providing him with the first two dozen."

Jack shakes his head. "First of all, if the enemy has armor piercing rounds, then the kevlar might just be extra weight since it wouldn't have any effect. Second of all, what the crap is that little sparkler going to do? Is it supposed to dazzel them to death?"
He walks back to the door. "Listen, I appreciate what your trying to do, but I cant waste my time with this type of stuff." He said in a calmer voice. "Im going back to the classes to see if thier is anything new to learn." He stops and raises his hands to his mouth, getting ready to shout. "XANDER!!! GET IN HERE AND LISTEN TO WHAT MYLES HAS TO SAY!!!" He starts walking again and reaches the door. Before exiting, he turns to Myles. "if what you have is any good, Xander will tell me about it. See ya." He leaves the closet and walks down the hall.

As he's leaving, Myles replies to his back, "You honestly don't see the strategic advantage in eliminating shadows when fighting an enemy that pops out of them? Or maybe you just don't trust equipment made by a girl. xp "
And after Jack's gone, Myles blinks and looks at Kento and Xander. "Did I actually say that? I must be losing it... sweatdrop Screw it. I offered my help for free and he refused it, from now on I'm charging his a** so he'd better have something good to barter."

Xander steps forward. "Dont worry about it. I have a feeling he knows what hes talking about. Either that, or he is completly stupid. I always get those to feelings about him mixed up." He shrugs and walks to the closet. So what else you got in there?"

"Tools, materials. Some works in progress. But what's in there isn't half as useful to us as what isn't in there yet."
As he talks, he takes out a section of a tree branch, about a foot long and a little over an inch thick, cut cleanly at either end. He also takes out a rotary saw that looks thin and delicate. So thin it doesn't appear that there's any room for a power source. He leans over a nearby worktable left by yhe construcion crews and continues.
"What we all need to do is put our heads together and brainstorm. Everything about these creatures, their abilities, weaknesses, their usual method of operation, and ways to exploit them. And what we come up with, I build."
He begins using the saw to slice even discs off the end of the branch, and then it becomes clear that his power tools don't need a power source. He himself is powering them with his electric touch.
