So hey, about how to fight. I'm relatively new to this whole RP thing on guilds and such. I play RPGs all the time and make some of my own, but I'm not really sure how to do these kinds properly. So I see people all the time making an attack on their opponent, and then the atatcker says what happens to the victim. Such as Exious' post against one of the trainees. He said something along the lines of "darts in and parries the sword, slamming the hilt into 'name''s face, knocking him to the ground. he points his sword at 'name's neck. it was all over before it even began" This kind of thing bothers me. As a game designer and bit of DM myself I didn't think it was fair. I admit it was something to be let go since Exious IS the master of this guild, and technically the most powerful warrior here by that means. And fortunately the victim took it in good grace. However what if this was a much greater level of fight. If we had two opponents, both very powerful, come at each other, do you think it would be a very entertaining battle so see "Fenix throws his sword into Gall's chest, striking him down at the first moment. The battle was over". That's pretty boring, not to mention probably would piss the person who plays "Gall" off. Fortunately my other guild is a major plot driven guild, so we can do things liek this because we're not trying to show off who's the most powerful or kill each others characters off. We do things not because we're going to beat the enemy, we're doing things to progress the story along. Now I understand this is not a plot driven, so it's a different situation.
However because it's a competition based guild, I think we should have a bit more defined battle system, as you people have been speaking about. I'm eager to see what it is, but I'd like to throw in some of my thoughts as well. If you notice how I play, I always throw out my moves and let my opponent take them as they choose. I personally think this is a much more open way to play, as it allows both people to trade off moves. I mean, it also lends to both players just cancelling out their opponent's moves and then throwing their own super move back. I personally am willing to take a hit on my part, but I never get the chance because everyone I've fought on this guild so far has made the fact that they're hitting me and there's nothing I can do about it. I can also excuse the fact that I currently am fighting a teacher, so a much higher level than I, but my point still stands. Tell me, is what I'm saying making any sense to you, or am I just playing it all wrong? Should I keep doing what I'm doing, or should I start calling shots on my opponents too?

By the way, you do know that the weapon commonly known as a "Ninja-to" wasn't actually used by Ninja, right? The "ninja-to" was used by the Shinsengumi, Tokugawa Ieyasu's secret police. Ninja used shorter, straighter katanas.

Very true, and not only that, but the term ninja-to is an occidental invention to make the term "Chokuto" sound "cooler" rolleyes

Ah, indeed, if you do not know the strengths, weaknesses, and origin of your weapon, one could not properly use it.

I agree, and people shouldn't just pick up a katana and call it a day, there is a broad selection of blades to choose from according to one's style and ability, for example, I chose the chokuto because I'm more fond of the "strike swiftly and retreat" and "wait in the shadows" creeds, someone like Evelyn for example I believe would do well with a zambato 3nodding

Unlike most people, I chose katana for a reason, not just because it's common. It's greatest strength is versitility. It's swift, but not lacking in power. It's strength is drawn directly from the skill of the swordsman. I prefer a slighly straighter, mildly shorter version, but Raven's sword is a standard katana base (with modifications for looks of course.)
