Always being clad from head to toe in gleaming white had its benefits, such as commanding attention wherever Cleph went. Right now, however, the effect was a little less than majestic as he attempted to navigate around a giant mud puddle on the narrow forest path back to Aschere, and at the same time, not get caught by low-hanging branches or flower pollen stains.

"At least no one can see me right now," Cleph sighed to himself as he pondered his dilemma. Piraya especially would mock him for being afraid of a little dirt. It was the thought of Piraya (whom he hadn't seen in a few days) which made him steel himself and march through the puddle to home, only minutes away...

Unfortunately for him, the puddle was also deceptively deeper than it appeared, and Cleph emerged from his bravery caked in huge splashes of mud. He stared down at himself, made a few useless efforts at wiping the dirt off his clothes, and sighed deeply again.

"At least," he repeated, "no one can see me like this."

Ragweed laughed almost childishly as a nature spirit danced around his legs. It was large round a fluffy with five glistening green eyes above and long pinkish snout from which a bronze coloured tongue tasted the air repeatedly. The little creature had been sitting on the roots of an aging oak tree when Ragweed had stumbled across it. He had seen this type of nature spirit once before in Ourilha, they liked to sit at the roots of ancient trees absorbing the nutrients that the roots collected before the tree could use them and as a result the roots would rot.

He smiled and stumbled through a bush after the cute little thing and smashing into a finely dressed man wearing pure white clothes looking slightly upset at the fact that the bottoms of his robes were filthy with mud. "Terribly sorry!" exclaimed Ragweed wincing as he noticed he had knocked the man into a large flowery plant and had accidentally gotten the man covered in dusty brown pollen.

"Oof! Hey, watch it!" Cleph barked when someone smacked into him, causing him to stumble back into the very flowery plant he was trying to avoid by going through the mud. "Goddess damn it all..." Kids. No, Cleph quickly corrected himself when he looked at the person before him: a Mushkin.

Puffs of pollen still floated in the air around them as Cleph struggled to not to start swearing when he looked down at himself again. "Listen, I'm sympathetic and all to the 'forests are Muscheron land' issue," he grumbled, "but next time, could you look out first?"

Ragweed cringed and dug his hands deep into his pockets, "Sorry, It's just I was missing all this nature here... The Asterion league grounds are so boring... Not a nature spirit in sight. But out here there are loads." he explained watching the little nature spirit he had been following dance around the man's legs totally invisible to the man.

Oblivious, Cleph had to feel a pang of guilt for the way the Muscheron was staring at his feet instead of meeting his gaze. He sighed (for the hundredth time today) before belatedly picking up on something the youth had said.

"Asterion? What business would you have there?" Cleph's eyebrows went up as he looked Ragweed over for the first time — not the strangest character to pass through the guild, granted, but... "Don't tell me... new blood?"

"I'm the newest recruit in the supportive magic division... Are you in the league as well?! Perhaps we can walk back together, it's about time I headed back." Ragweed smiled before crouching quickly to grab the little nature spirit cupping the furry bundle in his hands intending to try and take the thing back with him to keep him company in the big city.

"I only got introduced earlier today, by some blue winged Pennier, Auguste was his name I think. He's head of the Ranged division. I would've had been dealt with by some guy called Cleph but he's away on business." he explained walking ahead slightly before turning around with a grin plastered across his face. "But I'm kinda of glad I didn't have Cleph as I heard he's a bit of a grump!"

Cleph squinted at Ragweed for a silent moment before rolling his eyes and setting off, his longer legs taking him ahead of the Mushkin in just a few strides. The sooner they got back, the sooner he could take a shower. "People back home must think you're hilariously cute," he commented dryly.

He wondered what Auguste thought of this guy. Cleph would've pegged him as mostly harmless at first sight, but he knew the League's standards. "Yeah, I've been around awhile. So what is it you do, kid?"

Ragweed chuckled at the comment about 'cuteness' and mumbled something like, "Cute isn't exactly how they describe me" before jogging slightly to catch up with the longer legged human who was marching off looking slightly disgruntled ahead of him. He smiled again and held out his hands as if to show the cute nature spirit to the man, but obliviously he wouldn't be able to see it.

"Well for a start I can see these little creatures called nature spirits, Nobody else can see them. As far as I know they just effect nature in different ways like changing wind direction and making things rot... But most of all they're just interesting to watch." He paused slightly as the nature spirit in his hands jumped away from hi and onto the humans clothes scuttling upwards till it was perched carefully on his shoulder, with a laugh Ragweed continued to explain his 'power'.

"This shaman guy that my mother asked to look at me told me that the league would help me learn how to use these nature spirits to do magic and other stuff because at the moment I have no idea how to do anything useful with my talent. Except run around chasing things that are invisible to everyone else except me!"

"Invisible spirits, huh? So," said Cleph, his tone somewhere between thoughtful and amused, "out of curiosity, can you prove that these 'nature spirits' aren't just all in your head?"

He slowed down to a more reasonable Muscheron walking pace, and despite his words, was taking Ragweed's story seriously as he silently considered what he'd do. One thing was for sure: guiding this new recruit would be an interesting challenge.

Ragweed winced as he heard the question about if he had any proof of the creatures actual existence... Simply because of the fact that he didn't have any proof. The spirits seemed to notice the presence of people yet people could neither see nor feel the spirits around them. Ragweed looked half heatedly at the man and replied, "Well, I don't have any proof. But I can see them and the Voodo witch doctor that I saw definitely was sure that I wasn't just mad... I don't know if that's proof enough though..."

He sighed before looking at his feet as they tramped through another muddy puddle. Sometimes, very rarely he did doubt that he did have anything and that maybe he could just be absolutely mad...

Cleph shook his head and sighed, although whether it was because of what Ragweed just said or the second mud puddle, it was difficult to say. "Do you mean the voodoo witch doctor of Oruliha? We get Muscherons from all over, and you can never quite tell where they hail from.

"Regardless, it's not odd if you aren't mad. You hear stories about this kind of thing, if you listen for long and hard enough."
PostPosted: Tue Jul 10, 2007 11:56 am

Ragweed shook his head in reply, "I lived in Oruliha, he was a passing Voodoo witch doctor, my Mother paid him to look at me and see whether I really was mad. But he just said I was gifted with the power to see nature spirits and took my mothers payment and left." Smiling absent mindedly he splashed his way through the puddles not minding at all that his clothes were getting absolutely filthy with mud.

He then began to wonder who he was actually talking to, he knew that he was with the league but he didn't know which division or even his name! But then again he hadn't given a name either... "I'm Ragweed of Oruliha incase you were wondering... And you are?"

"Baradel," Cleph answered casually, unsure of whether or not Ragweed would recognize the name, but not wanting to make a big deal of things yet. He decided to skip ahead of the possible awkward questions — the story hadn't done much to convince Cleph of the existence of nature spirits. If anything, that sounded like one hell of a con job.

"So, Ragweed. What you're telling me is that some vagrant stranger showed up at your door to perform a dubious inspection of a Muscheron lady's troubled child? And charged a fee for it?" Would it be ridiculous to ask if the witch doctor had some sort of credentials?
PostPosted: Sun Jul 15, 2007 1:08 pm

Ragweed frowned when he heard the name's man... "Baradel... I swear I've heard that name before... Maybe it's just me." he shrugged and smiled before returning to explaining more about the voodoo witch doctor.

"Mother wouldn't have been stupid enough to just throw her money away... she made him prove his worth making him do visibly magical things. One thing he did was make this magical fire stuff form around his hand and he also speeded up the growth of this plant by loads so we could actually see it growing!" Ragweed's eyes widened slightly as he spoke of magic and hoped that if the guild could figure out his powers that he could someday too be able to do what the Voodoo witch doctor had done and perhaps even more!

Cleph had seen both tricks a few times in his years of travel, but that level of control in a magic-user was undeniably impressive. Mostly, he grinned at Ragweed's excitement, and then attempted to suppress it when he realized he was grinning.

These new recruits were always trouble. "While you have no visibly magic things, huh? Great." Cleph determinedly ignored the curious stares he and the equally muddy Ragweed were getting as they approached the hustle and bustle of Aschere. "How are you with weapons, kid?"
