I'm basically a preterist, so I don't believe the end times are upon us (though I don't have this all worked out yet).
And at one time everyone thought the social security card was the mark of the beast; however, the REAL ID Act scares me.
Personally, I think that Bush is trying to usher in the end times with his policies and thinks he's doing God's work. That is akin to saying that God somehow needs our help (in essence, it is a self-fulfilling prophesy).
The good news is that there are about 15 states (as of a couple of weeks ago) that say they will not comply and the government has changed the deadline to mid 2009. Hey, I said it was good news, not great news. Probably nothing will happen to it, but at least it gives us a little time to try to revoke this Act.
What is really sad is that some of the Christians I know see no problem with this whatsoever and one even commented that we should have a national ID.
The Act doesn't specify what kind of biometric data is required (my state is using a fingerprint) and there is not a microchip in it at all; but once people get used to this, it's only a matter of time before more controls are instituted. I don't think it'll have tracking right away, but it's only a matter of time.
The second article stated, "If the U.S. succumbs to the tyranny of total governmental control, the last light of freedom on earth will have been extinguished."
That's not quite true that the US is the only free nation left on earth smile
