I always wondered if the mews were an acciedent or not. In the first volume he says the earthquake made him miss his intended target. Or was it a humerous side of Ryou, since they deny it later in the manga.

And in the Anime Ryou also says that he didn't choose the girls, he just found them. Just thought I'll add my own little fact in there =3

Originally, in the manga, the girls were infused by accident, because of the earthquake. In the anime, they were chosen for their DNA compatability with the animal DNA. The manga was later changed to match the anime.
At least, I think that's true....

It relly makes more sense if he did it by mistake because he doesn't know who the mews are.

I think it was an accident that was supposed to happen...so even though it was not intended, they were still chosen by earth as stated later in the book.

yes, but Ryou did it to himself to make sure it was safe. Why would it matter if the genetic material wasn't ment for humans?

Ah! A plot hole!
You see, Ryou (In the first Manga Book) Explains to Ichigo that he had caught a Kimera Anima and had planned on injecting the Endangered species DNA into it to fight the Aliens with.
But Later on in the series, Keiichiro tells that Ryou tested the injecting gun on himself, to make sure it was alright for the girls to be infused with it.
In the Anime, it was all on purpose.

in the first book he knew ichgos name and stuff but he didnt know the names of all the others confused
