Today I went to get allergy tested, and it turns out I'm highly allergic to cats. sad I can't sleep with my cats, or anything! What do I do? I want to be with my babies! cry
My sister and I are in denial, but I do get allergies around the older cats, I thought it was something like dust...
I am getting shots for them, but that takes 3 years minimum and 5 years maximum to be "cured."
What can I do for the cats in the meantime? sad

that sucks really bad but im allergic to my cat and i still sleep with her but nothing really happens to me

#1 Same here (only my eyes water somtimes)P.S> shots arnt TOO bad!
#2 Keep them well groomed... (for dander alergies and fleas)
#3 Make sure your allergist isnt targeting your cat as an easy scape goat...it could be anything!
#4 GET A SECOND OPINION!!!!
#5 Peoples allergies CHANGE~ you may be allergic to one thing during one stage of your life- and over it in another!!!! (aka~I was allergic to strawberries untill I was age ten ~ I could eat them by the bucket full by age 12....doctors say thats common!

OK, thanks, as it seems, I am not getting shots, for it would cost $100 ( eek ) a month, and it's not ever guarrentied to work so...I'm on medication, the medication is working fine so my mom doesn't see a need for shots.
My allergist said I don't have to get rid of the cats, but I doubt the cats are the only problem, as I am allergic to every mold in the universe it turns out. (mold is all year 'round)
PS...I couldn't immagine being allergic to strawberries. eek

Hey the same thing happened to my aunt with strawberrries!
As for your cats, if it were me I'd pretty much suffer with the allergies (as long as its not causing anything serious), lol. But thats just me. I couldn't image not having my Kisa baby sleeping on top of my head. LOL

My kitty "BeBe" sneaks onto the middle of my back while Im sleeping on my stomach and I wake up on fire! (Its HOT in Florida) But back to the subject....My kitty allergies were WAY worse years ago....I think my body has build somwhat of an immune system since Ive let them stay!! exclaim

Well, my uncle's really allergic to cats, his eyes water up and go red when he comes over, but my aunt and cousins wanted a cat. They found out that he could take pills to help him, but they never wound up doing that.
My uncle is a stubborn man.
But looks like you've got the medication for it, so hopefully they clear up soon!

Thanks so much for the replies, everybody! 3nodding We bought an air cleaner thingy today, to help with the allergies, and the medication is working.
I guess most people who are allergic to cats like them.. sweatdrop Well, that's awesome to hear, I couldn't ever get rid of my babies. smile

...wow....i feel soooo...similar to everyone....i have bad allergies to cats too....but most of the time it doesnt bother me cause ive gotten used to it.....OOOH!!!!...and shots arent a cure....theyre treatment....like a vaccine...not a cure....just to put the chance of a disease on hold...TREATMENT!!!....enough said....and just wait until you grow a tolerance for the allergy medicine....then you have to switch...and the tolerance for that one comes quicker....its very annoying....ive had atleast 5 or 6 different allergy medicines since i was told i was allergic when i was....like....7 ish...soo...thats 8 years....oooh...and the shots....they hurt the first few times you get them,...then youre used to it....and the test....THAT HURTS!!!!! gonk crying crying crying ........
.....ooooh....longish post.....more of my ramblings...teehee...

I had test run by a doctor that hated animals and said I was highly allergic, I got a second opinon and it turns out I'm not. But if you are the shots will help.
