After the Black out here in Northern Greece and the things I'm hearing on TV about heat deaths and Forset fires killing people, I hope you guys are ok out there!! Post here if something serious happened near your home. This Announcement will be on all Summer and then will become a simple thread!
I'm really worried about you all!

I heard that in 6 people in Greece, died of the heat this year. Thats what my thiea said. Is that true?? Since she lives in Greece

Unfortunately, Greece is turning into Sahara... we already had a number of heat deaths but the worst thing about Greek people is that we actually set fires in the forests resulting in massive damages to the ecosystems of our country!
I think your theia is true, ellinida, but more and more are killer everyday by the heat (I heard that 2 people died today) so it is unable for us to count them.

Iheard that there were wild fires in greece, is that true?! If it is, why isnt anyone trying to put it out!?

There are a lot of Wild Fires right now, there are about 47 in or near villages. Most have been going on for days. Last I checked the news 63 are dead. And Homeless? Hundreds. Devastating.
I have a friend in Grilos, and the village was partially burnt. I'm not sure of the damage personally, Hell I'm not even in Greece right now, but they had to evacuate.
Why aren't they putting out the fires? Too many. There are just WAY too many for planes to be sent out. There is too much to do. Anyone who calls up emergency for the Fire, they are fined. Why? Too much to deal with, and well, the emergency service just don't want to deal with every single call.
All the villages are so far apart, fire departments can't reach them all. In Greece, villages are far apart and usually have small populations.
It's a really difficult situation.

GateFire covered the issue perfectly. There is something that I must tell though. I live north, where there weren't many fires but we put them out with our own hands. There in Peloponissos and Athens, people fear of fire and instead of trying to put it out, they wait for the fire brigade... If you have a fire burning somewhere, do something, spit hit, pee on it, but put it out!! It's all a giant propaganda!!!

The damages caused by the forest fires are going to be repaired....Of course many people are left without a job, because their farms were burned to the ground...But the serious fact of the case is that more than 60 people died in these fires...It'tragic......

they hadnt put the fires out coz they are a bunch of useless ppl which the only thing they like is to sit behind their office and getting money for nothing

It's not the firemen who stand behind their offices and sleep...It's their superiors...all the simple firemen fought very hard in order to put out the fires even though they did'n manage anything...

yeah but if the officers were ACTUALLY WORKING instead of arguing to find out who is responsible and had made a plan the fires would had been out very soon
