Dorcheira, for once, was grazing away from her vixen friend, Raven. She was calm now, if not depressed; she had taken Aldan's advice and gone to graze with the other hinds. But really, what was the point? No males seemed to notice her, and did she really want them too? Maybe she could make (living) deer friends other than her cousin, Brych, and his arrogant comrade, Thorn (if he could even be considered a friend). Okay, this was getting old. Fast.

Aithne lipped noncommitedly at the grass, more bored than anything. She supposed she could go graze with some of the other hinds, but really, what was the point? She had never really been interested in what most of them talked about, especially when she wanted to be interested in something. So many stories of fawns, and while she liked them well enough, not having one made her feel a little left out. Grazing alone was pretty boring in itself though, and she longed for something small to give her a little motivation.
Sighing, she lifted her head a little to have a look around. What caught her eye was another hind, but one that she did not recognize. Or, maybe she had seen her, though the grey/black hind didn't look familiar at all. Not that she was familiar with all the hinds in the herd of course, though most she could at least recognize. This hind was more of a stranger to her, and that interested Aithne. However, the other didn't seem to interested in making conversation, as she wasn't talking to any of the others. Though then again, Aithne herself wasn't either. Perhaps this hind was also waiting for something interesting. Not really sure whether she should go and introduce herself, Aithne settled for moving a little closer to the other hind as she grazed, giving oppertunity enough for the tricoloured hind to either ignore her, or invite her to coversation. She would have to see.

Dorcheira noticed the coffee-colored hind stepped a little closer. Dorcheira immidiately stopped eating. Okay, think......What was she supposed to do? Uh, let's see; she could give the other hind room, say something, or just keep grazing. She glanced at the other hind and looked around her. The doe didn't seem to be aiming for anyone else behind her. Dorcheira began to get a little nervous, so she suddenenly took a big bite of grass (seasoned with dirt at the roots.... Yum -_-; ) as to keep her mouth full, and therefor not say anything stupid. This social stuff was hard.

A lopsided smile crept it's way onto the burnt orange hind's maw as she noticed the grey one looking a little nervous. When she saw her cram a mouthful of grass, accompanied by less tasty things into her mouth, Aithne paused. Should she approach the other hind? What had that motion meant? That she was unsure was obvious, though it didn't seem unfriendly for the hind hadn't moved away from her, or gave her any sort of unwelcoming look. Perhaps she was new to the herd? Or, just generally more of a loner and unused to social circumstances. Whatever the case, she had chosen to graze with the others, which means she couldn't be conciously distancing herself...
Well, she would take a chance. After all what harm could it do? And besides, this hind looked interesting, and Aithne wanted to know who she was, at the very least. It was a habit, this curiosity of hers. Not always a good one either, yet in this situation she couldn't find anything that wrong with it. It wasn't as if she was planning on grilling the grey doe on her life story or anything. Just a little conversation while grazing. Deciding to do away with the subtlety, she wasn't that great with it any way, she approached the other hind. "Hello there, I haven't seen you around that much so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Aithne."

Dorcheira blinked and swallowed the grass,"Hello, I'm Dorcheira." She knew she sounded a bit nervous, but it's not like she knew how to talk to other hinds. They always seemed kind of.... stupid. Not that stags were much better, really, just less- what was the word? Girly? Airheaded? Useless?
Whoa, negative spiral. Deep breath; don't judge them harshly. Optomisim. Be optomistic. "Um, yes, I suppose I don't... stick out." Okay, now what? What the heck are you supposed to say now? "Nice weather today..." Wait, no it wasn't. It was cloudy and humid and buggy! "I mean, it isn't..... raining or anything." Shut up, Dorcheira, just shut up! She took another bite of grass.

"Well good to meet you then," Aithne nodded, pausing for a moment as she cropped another bite of grass. She could tell this hind wasn't much of a conversationalist, and it almost was surprising to herself that she was initiating conversation. In general, the orange hind wasn't much of a social butterfly either, not of course that this would constitute as overly social, but still. Perhaps it was that most of the other hinds were more talkative than she, so she had never really been in a position where she has willingly, not to mention witout any real invitation, started a conversation. She had to admit it felt a little nice, doing something out of the ordinary.
At the comment about the weather, her eyes flickered upwards, looking at the greyish dome above their heads. Well, the insects liked it for sure, they seemed drawn to more humid weather anyhow. It wasn't really the type of weather one would classify as being nice, however it was probably the first thing Dorcheira had thought of. Or so she was guessing, it could simply be that the grey hind really did like this weather. And true, it wasn't raining. She chose to nod her head. "Very true, though given the looks of those clouds, who knows how long it'll hold out? Rain I've never been a huge fan of, but I must say I love the smell in the air after it's gone. So refreshing don't you think? Makes you feel alive."

Makes one feel alive....hmm, Dorcheira hadn't thought of that. "I don't really like drizzles, the random pricks of cold quickly become annoying," she was getting to feel a bit more comfortable,"Downpours, however, are fun to watch. The sheets of falling rain invoke the imagination, and phantom shadows appear in the woods." Dorcheira had thought she had seen the shape of her beloved in the rain-shade more than once. "Almost certainly tricks of the light, of course, but still.... mystery enshrouds the forest when our eyes are fooled," she grinned wryly,"I beleive it inspires the storytellers."

Aithne laughed. "Really? I'm fairly similar too. Drizzles...well I suppose it depends on what kind of drizzle. The light, spring and summer rains I enjoy, because it provides just enough to cool off from the heat. Of course, the grey, autumn drizzles I hate. And as for downpours, they are quite interesting to watch, I mean that's how I imagine it if I was standing inside a waterfall." And though standing inside a waterfall was perhaps not what most deer thought of, she could never help but wonder what it would be like to do certain things. Like flight, Aithne envied the birds, who soared through the air with such grace, such freedom. If she had to be anything else in the world, she suspected she would be a bird.
The part about phantom shadows caught her interest, she had never really thought too hard on that before, though it was true. The falling rain did create all sorts of illusions, things she thought she saw. "True, they may be tricks of the light, but I think sometimes we think we see things that we hope to see, whether they're there or not." She mused on this a little, wondering if Dorcheira had ever thought on that as well.

Dorcheira could tell this was a very imaginitive hind, and despite herself, gave a ginuine smile. Standing inside a waterfall, charming. She'd not thought of that.
Dorcheira got a sort of glazed look in her eyes,"Hopes, and fears, are easy to project into the world. Some would say the herla have much to fear, and yet, I believe we've twice as much to hope."

Catching the smile of the other hind, Aithne returned the gesture, feeling pleased now that Dorcheira was feeling comfortable enough to speak with her. Twice as much to hope, huh? Aithne had to admit, she had never thought of things in that manner, though it did seem rather nice too. It was true, there was much for a herla to fear, but then again, as the grey hind had pointed out, there was also much to hope for. And they were quite fortunate with what they had. A large herd, relatively safe from many of the dangers that stalked to forest.
"That is very true. Because I suppose it must be our hope, rather than our fears that push us on, right? I mean, if we existed only on fear, many of us would probably be quite willing to just give up. I like the way that you think, very optomistic." She nodded, mildly observing the other hind as she adopted a rather whistfull look to her. Dorcheira, she suspected, had something that she hoped for greatly, though Aithne could not say what.

Dorcheira had been called many things, but never optomistic. Hmm, it had a nice ring to it. Perhaps she was right to try to speak with the other deer.
"If we allowed ourselves to give in to fear and despair, our kind would die. Saddness weakens the soul, and a weak soul weakens the body. We would succome to illness and predators. Is it not true that a happy herla lives longer than a discontented one?" she became a bit more serious here,"Hope fuels the soul, hope was what kept Rannoch's band alive, and it can carry us through disaster and famine. Beleif that things will get better keeps life in us all."

She nodded her head agreeably, the words the hind spoke echoed her own feelings as well. However, the way she spoke, it seemed...well as if there was an unamed emotion in the voice of Dorcheira that Aithne could not quite place. Perhaps it was...longing? Yes... that seemed about right, though for what Aithne did not know, nor really, was it any of her business to know.
"Indeed it does. And I have no doubt, that your hope will get you through whatever trouble comes your way. Your soul seems quite strong," she said with a slight smile. It was nice now, especially that the other hind had chosen to open up a little more. She seemed the willful type, but the ones to keep things to themselves, or, as she had observed Dorcheira doing, distancing herself from the rest of the herd. But it was good the grey hind had chosen to graze with the group, Aithne rather liked her.

Dorcheira seemed a little suprised, then smiled at the compliment, "Thanks." She wondered breifly if Aithne had an idea of what was on her mind.... It mattered not in the long run, she supposed. Dorcheira had been somewhat afraid of grazing with the rest of the herla, her herd had failed her before. But this hind was diffrent, definatly more intellegent than Dorcheira had given the other females credit for. Aithne made her reconsider her veiws.

"Of course," she replied, waving away the thanks with a shake her her head. She did not think it was warrented, granted she had only stated what she believed to be true. A step to the right, and she found her hoof crunching on something. Curious, and having not been paying attention to where she placed her feet, she lifted it up to look. A leaf, and the very best kind. Dry, which gave it the perfect crunch. Odd, for her to be thinking about leaves, but really, it always had been her favourite passtime as a fawn, to play in them. Of course, the turning leaves only meant one thing. She raised her head, looking back to Dorcheira.
"There's a coolness in the air now. Winter's coming. Actually, so is Anlach." Funny how the thought of winter had preceded anlach, where for most hinds, anlach was probably one of the only thing's on their mind. Well, showed where her priorites were. "But, larn approaches now, so I should go. But it was nice to talk to you Dorcheira, I do hope you graze near the herd sometime again." And, with a nod and a smile, she retreated to Home Oak.
