Currently, I practice with a wooden Tai Chi straightsword. It's very solid, perfect for sparring.
My style is unlike most. It's not one that you can learn from reading a book, or watching a movie. It's almost a day to day basis that I learn a new move I can do. It's almost like playing a level-up game, giving me the incentive to keep practicing and be able to do awesome things with my sword.
If I had a videocamera, I'd submit one of my practice sessions, but I'm lacking one at the moment. sad

Sorry about forgeting the sword. It's just one of those that few people know...most are more familiar with the Dai-Katana. I myself am working on a style. I hope to be able to use a Katana-Wakizashi combo, but for now, I'm practicing my two-sword capabilities with a Wakizashi-Kodachi combo, while building my strength with a single katana style and unarmed martial arts.

Both are cool though, and I've practiced around with the a peice of bamboo the length and width (roughly) of a Jian.

I voted Katana as the best sword. It's actually pretty hardy even compared to english style swords. It's edge is pretty regularly maintained by the wielders, so it's always super sharp, and it curved edge also gives it a lot more damaging power. I practice with a katana whenever I'm bored, but I haven't ever taken any official lessons. But what Steve-the-Mahn said about different weapons for different situations and such... I play PSO and I carry about 3 different swords on me. A single sword, dual sword, great sword, and handgun as well. Multiple enemies means great sword, single enemy (or two) means longsword, maybe dual sword. Boss monsters means Dual swords. Flying enemies and Hildebears means pistol, and occasionally when I need to pick off or soften an enemy from distnce. But yes, different weapons for different situations. Personally my FAVORITE sword is as big as you can get, so roughly a claymore, even though they're pretty unwieldy and heavy.

I use, for the time being a chokuto, but have experience with Zambato, katana, dao, etc. and also have a personalized blade, sort of a mixture of a machete and a katana, it's pretty heavy sweatdrop but not too heavy if you know what I mean

Katana's are not only extremely well designed as far as swords go, they are also capable of maintaining a blade without too much effort. This is because of the mixture of hard and soft steel in the blade. The softer steel prevents the blade from being too brittle, while the harder steel allows the katana to keep a sharp edge for a long time.
Unlike the erroneous view of the katana, it is not just a powerful slashing weapon. It's very design makes it a versitile weapon. It is light, but still heavy enough to provide plenty of power. Also, unlike many people falsely believe, the katana's tip provides an incredible amount of peircing/thrusting capability.

Among the lighter swords, I agree that sabres (sabers) are amoung the most useful weapon. My favorite type is the Austria-hungarian saber.
