Every ROTC unit has these types of people: Couples. They sit together on the buses going to competitions, they go to formal occasions together (Marine birthday ball, for example).
What's your opinion on dating within the Cadet Corps? Do the break-ups make it freaking awkward?

I think its good to have that special someone you can talk to about ROTC. But if your like on the same special team it'll be awkward if you break up if it was a bad break up. If its mutual then there might be no problem. I had a friend who broke up with her bf and we're all on a special team.. She had issues looking at him. Then they got back together and whatnot... blah blah blah.... I think its ok though.. A lot of the relationships are ok....

In AFJROTC, in my corp, everybody is almost like family. And like family we share many things. For example, drama. Yes there are many drama's in JROTC, its like you hear a rumor about yourself next thing you know its out of the corp and somewhere else before you even knew about it. Relationships is an interesting drama but sometimes its a problem. During a relationship we have problems with PDA, favorism, rumors etc. After they break up, questions, drama, and it sucks is when one of the partners are in some position of power during and after the relationship. For my ASI, in JROTC she would make the two do PT together. I heard from her when she was active, that she would ship the two somewhere else because she didnt want to deal with it. Woah this was long.

Well, uh, I've actually dated within ROTC twice... as a result I've made a semi-official rule that cadets are no longer allowed to do such. Both breakups caused challenges of authority, and inter-corps problems because most cadets "chose a side." It was not a good situation. Now, it is entirely disapproved of for one to date another cadet and even though we can't really disallow it, two cadets who display a more-than-professional relationship are shown a significant bit of contempt from the staff.
So, too make a long story short, not a good idea. Too much drama.

Dating within corp is fine. If there's an authority problem people just have to assert themselves more.

The only thing it affects is opinions in the chain of command.
someone higher than their bf or gf could make a choice that benefits their significant other.

Our CO dated out XO for the longest time....
I really think that it;s really awkward...I know two cadets who date on and off all the time..and they're on the same teams...It's strange when they're broken up...and I'll tell you, in our unit, gossip travels fastest in the ROTC. can break up with someone during the Annual Management Inspection (Not that you should talk. Dx), and everyone knows about it when the inspection's over.

A broken song of redemption and regret Well the opinions in the chain of command really depends on the person. The person who's in charge of our class right now is actually coming down harder on their "significant other" than most of the other cadets.

In my ROTC, we date inside the corps a lot, when someone dates outside we usually like make them one of us by having them go to our competitions with us or a fundraiser or whatnot, and when they break up i've never seen anything ever go bad. i mean for example one cadet i have in mind has dated most of the known males in rotc (unless they're let level's lower) and we still hang out and everything

The thing is though, when he puts on the uniform, its kind of like he's completely different.
Not in a bad way, he just treats everyone equally.
Which is really good for the batallion.

Technically, the only person not allowed to fate within the unit is our CO.
First Sergeant never mentioned it to the XO, so he seems to think he's out of that...
Which is funny, because him and OPS are dating...
But they're a funny couple-like, we were on the bus to competition, and the XO and OPS were doing this Oompa Looma thing in their seat-one of their heads would come up, while the other went down. And they'd alternate pretty quickly. Well, the Xo's parents are awesome, and they both randomly yell "handcheck!" and the XO and OPS both come up, smiling, wiggling their fingers high above their head.
You may have just had to be there....

haha, handcheck, they do that for orienteering competitions because i was the only girl and they thought i was goin' out with pretty much every guy on the team even though I WASN'T so they would yell that a lot
