Please visit this thread if you are feeling uneased by Gaia's choice to team up with a sponsor that deliberately excludes a big portion of Gaia's users.
CALLING ALL UPSET USERS [collecting names] ...if you agree, please help spreading the word! Banners avaliable on page one of the petition! heart

How exactly are they being excluded, though? Has the sponsor done something to make it so? I can't actually find a proper explanation in the link you provided as to how they are excluding foreign countries, and it just seems that it is just taking for granted that it does.
I have seen a couple of Japanese users on this site, and also a few German. Of course the majority of the site is english, but I have seen the odd foreigners here and there.

I think this is really unfair.
A large portion of Gaia's users are from non-English speaking countries. At least it's a bit better than them exluding everyone but people from the US. This wouldn't surprise me at all.
I have signed the petition and hopefully it'll do some good. confused

Yes, it is the sponsor excluding all non-english due to copyright reasons (read: money not straight into their own pocket).
Though the point of the petition (it's stated in the first post in it) is the wish for Gaia not to team up with sponsors who choose to exclude users. Gaia reaches out to users all over the world, then it's only fair to also make it fully avaliable for everyone.
When it comes to nationalities on Gaia, I think most people don't run around shouting out where they come from, since it shouldn't matter whn on the Internet. The only way you can actually find out if a user is foreign to you, is if they have put it in their sig or on their profile. Most people don't though.

Your IP shows where you are using the Internet, so that way they can see if you are allowed to participate or not.

I am from Germany and I am playing with the thought to create a "Euro Gaia", because Gaia was an international place for me at first sight, but on the second sight it is more a "Yes, it is international if you are american"-place.
