Why do some people say that pain is the only thing thats real?
Are they somehow impling that these powerful feelings of love, hate, and fear and just illutions?

Um, maybe it's because pain is the only thing people can actually relate to? Maybe it's because everyone has felt it? I mean, not every has been loved. And maybe it's because sometimes people can't tell when they're letting fear or hate take them over. But everyone knows when they're in pain.
Well, that's just my guess anyway.
(Hm, I'm glad you brought this up...I never thought about this before).

I agree.
pain is though to be the only emotion because of many reasons,mainly because people usually feel more related to it in away and in some cases feel that pain can always be sensed while other emotions like fear and hate is not so easly shown when taking over.
but in the end we all know that other emotions are always there....

i read what you guys posted and i thought id give my two cents in on this one.
pain.......hmm well its related to everything in some way or another. in fact pain can be a result of any other feeling we have, happiness, love, fear, hatred, etc. yes even happiness and love can result in pain. for instance, love, lets say you thought you were together with the best person you ever knew. then one day they decided to break up with you for no reason. how would that make you feel? like you were in pain right?
yea i know my explanation on this topic isnt as long as some of my others, but this is a more difficult one to speak on. if i get any other good examples ill add on to what ive already said.

In a way... pain can be the only feeling we are sure is real.
Some people are in love with "the feeling of love". They always have a crush, or they go from partner to partner quickly because they fall out of love as easily as they fall in love. They lie to themselves and think they love the specific person when they only love the feeling of being with someone. Otherwise known as commitment issues. Either their standards are too high, they have issues forming intimate relationships for various reasons.
And we are all in some way neurotic (have trouble separating reality from fantasy). Pain is always the same though.
But to say that only pain is real? But even pain can be remembered and thus distorted. Reality is relative to the individual in my opinion. There is no one answer or truth or one experience. We may all stand in the same place, witness the same car crash... but our experience, what we remember of it, will all be different.
I think it was Aristotle that said that thoughts and ideas are the highest reality... and the physical are the lowest as our senses lie to us. Though... our own minds lies to us and memories distort with time... such things like 2+2=4 never change. Math, science, physics never change because they exist whether we are aware they exist or not.

Most likey because pain is shared by all. No matter what somewhere in your head or heart you are feeling pain. You have expercined pain from day one till you die it never goes away. People say love makes the world go around, what about pain. You can live without love but couldn't live without pain. It's weird that way for some reason.

It's weird that way for some reason. you can live without true love.... but you can't live without affection. If you raise an animal without affection it dies. Even if you give it all it needs... without the touch of another living creature and affection, it will just die.
