-cue awkwardness-
Lately I've become obsessed with two of the most awesome bands ever, Oomph! and Diary of Dreams.
I love how they sing, and I have a feeling that their lyrics are very meaningful , I've never really been a fan of Germany for a couple of reasons (mostly because my dad is a douche who gets stupid around anything involving Germany since he was born and raised there for only 4 years. >> It was annoying to even think about Germany until I heard some of these bands), but I absolutely love these bands.
I've been trying to translate some of their lyrics for the past while, but it seems the only bands anyone cares about translating to English are bands from Japan. emo
I've found some sites that have the whole lyrics translated, ones like from http://www.darklyrics.com/, or http://www.GermanMetal.com .
But the majority of the songs aren't translated, and some by Diary of Dreams aren't translated at all.
I'm really not sure if there's another guild I should try finding to help me translate them, but since this is a German & Spanish guild I hope some people could help me.
I don't think there are any forums that involve translating lyrics, so I have to search guilds.
If it doesn't belong here, feel free to lock it.
I've tried translating some songs with a Translator, but it seems the translators mess alot of things up. >> Due to I think, Dialect?
This isn't going to be a thread where I post lyrics and hopefully people help me, naw, then the songs being translated would have no meaning to me because I didn't do it myself.
However, it would be nice if I could post certain things, and got help with them. Like why the words seem backwards when it's in past tense or some other things.
I'd try using the translator I use, here, and find out what the true translation is?
Hopefully I can get this thread to work, and if it doesn't ohwells. razz
PS. Can anyone tell me what the heck this means in English?

I LOL everytime I hear it, but my friend says it doesn't work on translators at all, that it has to be from someone who actually speaks German. Though, he didn't say what it really meant. <<

Hmm... I could try, but I've only had three years, truly, so... and yeah, translators are pitiful, don't use them, they totally screw up the translation, the tenses are all wrong, and I've even found individual words being translated incorrectly! It was bad... xP
Uh, don't know what that means, sorry, but I can try lookin' it up in my dicionary for ya! mrgreen

Okay, I have this one song, Cholymelan, but when I try to translate it, (yes translators really really do suck. xP), it sounds really weird.
Angefangen zu truamen.
Traumen seems to translate into Traumas in english, but with the way the song is, I'm pretty sure it's ____ to dream. Angefangen seems to translate as begun, but I'm pretty sure it's Begin. Am I correct?
Erwacht und erkannt - seems to translate to Awakes and recognized... It really seems sort of messed up in the way it's worded. Maybe it's Awakened and Recognized, but I'm really not sure at all. sweatdrop
Die Traume verronnen - Again I'm not sure whether Traume means Dream in some form, or if it means Trauma like it's translating to. And Verronnen seems to translate to Run Off.
Mit zitternder Hand - With Trembling Hand... Again, with the way it's worded the translator isn't really good at all. Does German dialect have an 'A' in a sentence, or is it not supposed to? So it'd be "With a trembling hand"
Auch das letzte Blatt gewendet - translates to 'Also the last leaf turned', which I don't see making any sense in the song, though it could be that.
Das Buch nun verstaubt - translates to - The book now gathers dust.
Which seems to be a pretty decent translation for once.
In der verlorenen Zeit - In the lost time. Which could go with the above Line.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. ^^

Hmm... could you give me the full song as you've translated literally, then as you think it should sound? Most of this stuff depends on context. And I believe that if you have a dative preposition, then you don't need "a" but do dublecheck on that, because I'm probably not the best one to ask.

Angefangen zu Traumen - I think it means beginning to dream. I'm pretty sure Traumen means to dream.
Erwacht und erkannt - Awoke and recognized... That's about the best I can do. German grammar is sort of odd...
Die Traume verronnen - I don't know, the word "verronen" isn't in my dictionary and I haven't learned it, so... ^^;;
Mit zitternder Hand - It would be with a trembling hand, but if they put in the "eine" for "a" it might have messed up the rhythm of the song or something. It could also mean "With a handshake".
Auch das letzte Blatt gewendet - Blatt can mean page as well. So it most likely means Also the last page turned.

So it's either, that now is everything good, or everything bad, you have to know the context "Hau Ruck" is something you say for example by the rope pulling, when the whole team pulls at the same time. It's like a sort of let's go. And "Ruck Zuck" means doing something really fast, you say it if someone isn't fast enough for you. I hope I managed to get it through, I sometimes have problems finding the English words, but if you want another text translated, just say it biggrin
