"Speed and Scales Dragon Supplies and Practice Racetrack" read the sign above the dusty little shop in a side alley off one of Nexis City's main streets. Another sign, tacked onto the door of the shop, had a hastily painted red arrow on it and the message "practice races today- we're in the back" scrawled on with large black sharpie marker.

Following the arrow would take one to a little pathway at the side of the house, paved with grey stones and leading to a little garden in the back. A tree of some sort stood in the middle, surrounded by grass, which was in turn surrounded by a well-worn racetrack, where a black and green dragon was busy running laps.

Attached to two branches of the tree was a large banner, also hastily painted in red, reading "Welcome New Dragon Trainers- Info Session Today"

At the back of the little garden, three individuals were waiting. The first, a seafoam-haired young woman, ran the shop, and was easily recognizable as Myra, one of Nexis' dragon championship race winners. But that was ten years ago, and her little shop didn't exactly seem like the training ground of the victor of a race for a dragon Champion title.

Her two shop assistants kept her company, and they couldn't be more unalike from one another. One was a tall man, perhaps twenty five or thirty, with billowing white feathered wings. His long white hair had a streak of purple in it, and he wore a plain, neat t-shirt and jeans. The other was a very young girl, maybe seven or eight, who had long black pigtails and probably wore the grimiest, most well-used pair of overalls in Nexis.

None of them spoke, but in their own ways all three waited expectantly for their little event to start gathering attendees. After all, they had a job to do.

Cale took Slash to the city to buy some things when she saw a sign about practice races today. This made her excited to see what Slash was capable of. So she follow the red arrows to see if she could enter in the race.

"Hey! Our first trainer!" Cindy was the first to notice Cale, and she sprung up to greet her. "Great dragon, miss. He… she? looks like they just hatched!" The eight-year-old clasped her hands together in delight, and one could tell that her right hand was mechanical, though most of it was hidden beneath her sleeve. "So, you here to race?"

Cale smiled at the girl," Yes I' me to test Slash's abilities on the track! She just hatched awhile ago, and she's ready to race!" Slash purred in Cales arms as she was stroked by her trainer.

"Ugh. We're broke. Why am I going to the store?"

The discouraged voice belonged to a fairly young woman in a tattered brown jacket and starched cream capris, tall brown boots covering her entire leg. Her hair was short, black, and somewhat frizzy from the stress she had been put under as of late.

Yet, beside her strode a small, apparently carefree young hatchling, testing out its wings for what seemed to be its first time. This particular dragon was gray in most parts of its body, but a steely blue on its talons, wings, horns, and underbelly. The dust kept covering it up though, so the young woman just bent down and scooped up the dragon.

"Practice.. races... today?" the same woman read aloud, partially to herself. Upon readin this, she hastily followed each red arrow until she was led to a room with quite a number of other people in it.

"Great!" exclaimed the kid, "Though you're the first one here, so I guess you and Slash'll have to wait until we get another racer. Then you two can use the track. TOX!" She turned away from Cale to yell at the full-grown black-and-green dragon running around. "You're gonna need t'get off the track soon!"

Toxic, the running dragon, skidded to a stop on the dusty track. "Stupid hatchlings, stealing my trail. And none of 'em are even ready for a real race yet. This sucks. Can't I have five more minutes?"

"No." It wasn't Cindy who answered, but the other assistant, Canis, who had noticed the second trainer arriving. "There are two here, now, they will want to race." He sounded cold, and annoyed at something, though it was hard to say what.

Myra looked at Canis for a moment, disapproving, then went to greet the new arrival, speaking to Cale at the same time. "Good afternoon, and welcome to our practice racetrack. My name is Myra, and this is Cindy, and Canis. If you have any questions about the care and raising of your young hatchlings, please feel quite free to ask one of us."

Slash noticed the other hatchling and jumped out of Cale's arms to get a closer look at it.

Cloudy walked alongside the busy city streets on her way to the store with Rhea.
"I wonder what dragons eat..." she thought. Since this was her first dragon, she didn't know very much about them. For the past few days, Cloudy had been feeding Rhea fruit and meat. "I hope what I've been feeding her is ok..."
Rhea stopped at the corner. She gazed into the alley, sniffing the air. Then, she ran off.
"Hey! Where are you going! Wait up!" Cloudy yelled as she chased her dragon. When she caught up with Rhea, she found her sitting in front of shop. "Speed and Scales Dragon Supplies...she said looking at the sign. Then, she saw another sign. "Hmmm....practice races...you want to race, don't you?" she asked Rhea. The dragon nodded. "Ok, let's go then," Cloudy said, following the arrows to the garden.

"I think we should go." the young woman stated. This time, she was facing her antsy little hatchling, which had happened to flutter out of her arms but a few seconds ago.

As the woman proceeded to take a look around the store, she left her small dragon to its own devices. It's long tail helped it stay balanced as the small dragon repeatedly attempted to take flight.

As the other hatchling approached, Azulee couldn't help but be slightly annoyed.

"What do you want? Can't you see I'm trying to practice?" he asked, irritation in his tone.

“Crap. There are already some people here. Are we late?”

A woman rushed down the alley that lead to the back of the shop. She was in her thirties, with long white, almost green hair. She was wearing a white dress, but by the end of the alley, it wasn't going to be so white. She was pushing her new hatchling along towards the racetrack. He was trying his best to resist.

“I'm blaming you. Why don't you want to race, that's what dragon are supposed to love!”

The dragon in front of her squawked, pushing back against her hands as he was being shoved along. his body was royal blue, his legs and wings were orange, except for one of the back legs which was a darker shade of blue, and his horns, which were also a dark blue. Although you could use all of this to describe him, most people would simply say: “The one with the smiley face on his leg.”

She finally managed to push him onto the green around the racetrack, and started looking around the track. She noticed several hatchlings that had already arrived, and their trainers.

“This is going to do you some good. You haven't gone out lately, and you need some excerise.”

If it was possible to put the phrase “I'm going to kill you.” into a one syllable squawk, Mr. Smiles did that.

" You needn't be rude! I was going to introduce myself!", Slash huffed. She turned away from the other hatchling and saw more come into the practice track. She hoped these hatchlings were friendly.

Cale watched as Slash try to make friends with the hatchlings.

The eight-year-old assistant noticed Cloudy coming in, and went to greet her too. "What a cute dragon! She's so elegant looking" she complimented, examining Rhea. "You guys want to race too?"

"Tarin" said Myra, turning to the woman who'd just arrived. "Pleasure to see you again. It looks as if you've finally given in and found yourself a dragon."

"Thanks!" Cloudy said. Rhea smiled, taking delight in the compliments. "Yeah, we're here to race."
Rhea looked at the other hatchlings. She couldn't wait to race. Though she did have some room at home to run, she knew it wouldn't be nearly as great as running on a real racetrack would be.

Tarin walked up to Myra, holding out her hand. "It's nice to see you again as well, Myra. I suppose it was fate, everybody in Nexus seems to be in love with dragons, and I haven't been busy enough lately."

Mr. Smiles watched this and other interactions curiously as the trainers and their dragons meeted-and-greeted.

"Hmph." Azulee snorted. He couldn't be bothered with any of these other dragons; he was simply far too busy practicing to become the best racer of Nexus. What was it with all this faux-friendliness anyway?

His trainer, notcing the little encounter, rushed over to Azulee and promptly rapped him on the head. "Seriously, learn some manners." Crista chastised. "This is your first outing ever and you go and turn your little snout up at anybody who tries to make nice." she continued. Realizing that Azulee wouldn't apologize, however, she merely hung her head and sighed.

Thus, Crista merely picked up the antisocial dragon and carried him over to where the other little hatchlings were sitting. There she set him down and continued reading the many signs and boards throughout the shop.
