Dashing McRosebetweenhisteeth descended down the stairs to the ballroom, one paw trailing on the banister and the other paw holding a rose. He looked at all the mice, dancing on and on, and wondered why he was here.

And then he woke up.

Dashing McRosebetweenhisteeth was curled up in the grass. It was a wonderful sunny day, and he must have dozed off. That wasn't a normal thing for him to do, so that was funny. But other than that, there was nothing not-normal about the day. He sat up, and reached up with a paw to groom his silky hair - it had gotten slightly rumpled while he was asleep. When Dashing was sure that he looked as good as he had before he'd drifted off, he stood up, smoothed his suit, and set off on a brisk walk through the grass, a rose in one paw.

It wasn't long before he came across a clup of long-stemmed flowers where a few mice were milling about. Since the flowers were shady, he decided to stop there for a while and meet some new faces.

Following the rules was overrated. Completely overrated. O-V-E-R... ...A... I? Oh, never mind. Soof huffed, stalking through the flowers. Spelling just wasn't his thing. Adventuring, however...

Margret absentmindedly twirled one of her bouncey curls with one paw and re-adjusted her skirt with the other. Sure, the other mice said it wasn't a good idea to wear her fancy dress out and about, but Margret liked to look nice. Nice, for, you know... The gentlemen mice. Of course, she wouldn't admit that, and always claimed it was just because she felt more comfortable in fancy clothes. Which was completely untrue... Darned lace, always getting caught in the prickly weeds...

As Margret fiddled with her dress, she snapped out of her little fantasy world and realized something. Right there, just a few minutes ago, there was a certain little, fluffy, orange thing next to that clover. Yes! He had been right there! ... Had been. ... ... Ohshoot.

Dashing fiddled with the ruffle on his suit. The mouse around here were all so... sleepy. And with good reason, it was a very hoy, humid day and those who weren't napping were probably wishing they were. He complimented a few lady mice on their dresses and got a hefty amount of flirting in return - he usually did. But none of these mice were the sort that would make him live up to his name - they were all very pretty, but so empty-heade-...

Dashing's thoughts were cut off as a new mouse caught his attention. Her fur was a pure white color, like his, and she had shiny, curly hair pinned up on top of her head. Her dress was purple, with light blue lace and a blue ribbon. But it wasn't her dress that caught his attention, it was her eyes- they were blue, a beautiful bright blue color that made him stop for a moment. Yes, she definitely was a very pretty mouse. So what was he waiting for? Dashing McRosebetweenhisteeth tugged on his collar and made his way over to this new mouse.

Margret twirled around a few times, hoping, although increasingly doubtful, that her little pet was just hiding nearby. She sighed as she realized that she should probably go looking for him. But he'd turn up by himself, right? ... Just because he never had before didn't mean he wouldn't start, right? Of course! ...Ok, maybe not.

This was why Margret's mind wasn't completely focused when a new gentleman walked onto the scene, and why she forgot that little rule about 'don't say what you think the second you think it'. Margret tossed back a curl and fluffed her bow as she instinctively said, "Well my, aren't you handsome." Immediately she realized that wasn't exactly the kind of formal greeting that might have been more appropriate. "I-I... I didn't mean to say that aloud. Not that I don't think you're handsome, or anything, because you definitely are, but see, I'm not usually this forward and... and..."

Quickly shutting her mouth before she continued rambling, Margret took a deep breath and decided to start over. "Good afternoon, sir," she said, holding out a paw for Dashing to shake, "My name is Margret."

Dashing was about to say something, when this new lady paid him quite the compliment. He smiled as she stuttered along a bit, eventually chuckling a bit when she trailed off, looking a little flustered.

"Think nothing of it," he said, pressing his paw firmly to hers and shaking it once or twice. "It's not as though I haven't heard that before. My name is Dashing, and if you don't mind me saying, you're quite pretty yourself," he continued, touching a paw to the rose in his pocket and wondering when the best time would be to bring it out. So far this seemed to be going well, despite Margret's awkward (but true, he thought proudly) first line. They did say first impressions weren't everything, but Dashing did pride himself on a good first impression. "Good afternoon to you as well, and what're you doing today?"

Soof pounced to the top of a rock, widely surveying the land. He wasn't entirely sure how far he had gone, but that didn't seem to matter. What did matter was... "Trikukubi! tritriblukiblu!" Soof proudly proclaimed, which meant something along the lines of, "FREEDOM!"

Margret smiled, pretending not to blush as Dashing spoke. She had a tricky habit of blurting things out when she was distracted. This wouldn't be much of a problem if it weren't for the fact that she was pretty much always distracted.

"Oh, I'm just out with my... with my..." Margret paused, again glancing around, and then snapping back to her earlier thoughts. "Er... My pet. He's um... just off... playing." she hesitated to admit that she'd flat out lost him. She fiddled with her skirt embarrassedly, wondering if coming out about her neglective petwatching was the worst possible impression she could make on Dashing. He was, after all, very refined. And there had always been a lack of refined gentlemen, in Margret's opinion.
