How do you feel about a second contest?
I think we should have another art contest of some sort.
I think we should have an avatar contest.
I think we should have some kind of writing contest.
I think we should have a different kind of contest (please specify).
I think another contest right now is a bad idea.

Since the last contest ended a while ago and it's the time of the year when many people have a decent amount of free time on their hands, we may as well hold a second guild contest. This involves deciding what sort of contest we should hold.

Last time was an avatar-based art contest which could potentially be done again if that is what people would prefer, but since it has been done already a different sort of contest might be a good idea. It has been suggested that we have an art contest based on theme rather than avatar such as drawing a scene or drawing a place.

An avatar contest has also been suggested where a theme is chosen and you dress your avatar accordingly, so that is also a possibility.

Another possibility might be to hold a contest based on writing rather than visual art such as a mule-based poetry contest or short-script contest or some such thing.

For the moment though, I just want to get a general idea of what people would prefer or if anyone has any suggestions for a different type of contest, so I've put up a temporary poll to sort of see where everyone stands. Please feel free to post your thoughts and suggestions on this.

I would like to see another art contest, although having the writing contest sounds like a good idea too. I like the idea of a settings/scene art. My only concern is the deadline. I think the last contest deadline was a month or two, plus a month or two of judging. If we could establish a judging system we could have a contest with a due date of something like 1 to 2 weeks, with 24 to judge. Done.

My point is that a contest that takes too long makes people loose interest, but a contest too short may not allow for some people to put in the required time to do something really well. If we can find the right amount of time, we should be set.

I will be away for 3 weeks starting in about 2, so I don't know if I will even be able to participate in this contest (unless someone is planning on starting it soon). However I also would prefer a themed contest. I don't think a scene/setting would necessarily be the best, since varied entries are much more interesting. I'd rather a loose theme that is open to interpretation. Such as

-'family'
-'tragedy'
-'magic in LotR'
-'water'
-'gloom'

You get the idea.

I would also not be opposed to opening up the contest to gain a larger audience.. whether the subforum, all of gaia, or even another forum/community.

Okay, I think I'll go ahead and start one then. Based on the low number of votes though, I'm going to have to make it longer than 1-2 weeks. Though this should better enable the judging to take place quickly when it comes to it though since should have a charger by then and be back on my own computer able to quickly communicate with people. Since I've always considered this guild to be an extension of the subforum, I'm not opposed to having outside people join the contest, but I'm lazy so I'm not going to go actively searching.

At any rate, I'll have the thread up within a couple of hours - I still have to find out when we're going to South Dakota so I don't accidentally end the contest when I'm not around. That could be annoying. User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Have you considered a way (in the official art contest post) to display all the art on the first few pages, so it doesn't get posted randomly throughout the thread.

I'm just mentioning this because with the last contest, art work was posted and hyperlinked all over the thread, making it somewhat difficult to get a good view of all the work at one time.

That's what the second post in that thread is for. It had bothered me too, which is why I figured I'd include it.

Thats a very good idea. I think that you could even have two contests going at the same time. One for writing and the other for art.

Well, there doesn't seem to be much a point in holding a contest without contestants, so a double contest is really unlikely.

*double checks that she mentioned the contest start in this thread*

The contest currently running is stickied and ends in five days, either way. There will be no extensions, since that is what was requested last time a contest was held. Just a heads up!

I'd be interested in a writing contest - at least, I would be if I could type much right now.
