I know that there are a lot of them, but I'm basically going to give you and overview of the ones that you can play as a girl only, or the games where you can pick between genders.

Back to Nature For Girl

User Image

Console: Sony Playstation

Introduction: Traveling by yourself on a ship, you met up with a strange man. This man spoke on and on to you about how great life is. He touched you with his sayings, but soon after, a storm blew up and left you shipwrecked. The next thing you knew, you were lying in a bed. It appears as though someone came and helped you to Zack's house, though you don't know who is was. After explaining to Zack and the mayor that you have no place to go, it's decided that you will live at an old farm in Mineral Town. But the question remains: who was that who helped you on the beach?

Though the story line is very different, the game play is the same as it was in Back to Nature. However, the role that you play in certain festivals (Goddess Festival, Winter Thanksgiving Festival, Moon Viewing Festival, etc.) has changed, giving a you fresh perspective on life in Mineral Town. The daily speech of most people has changed, and the decoration inside your house has more of a feminine touch to it.

Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon GB was the first version of the genre to appear on the Gameboy platform. The game was originally released on the mono-color Gameboy system but was remade in 1998 for the Gameboy Color console.

The main objective of the game is to resurrect your Grandpa's old farm. You'll have the help of the Harvest Sprites, who live in a cave under your Grandpa's tool shed. You can choose to play as a girl or as a boy. There isn't a lot of difference between the two genders but there are some things that you control which determine how you start the game (see the Secrets section for more information). To supplement your farming income, you will also have to purchase and raise cows and chickens.

At the beginning of the game your Grandpa's Spirit pays you a visit and requests that you try to bring his old farm back to life. After 4 seasons have passed (120 days), he will revisit you to evaluate your work.

Besides the Harvest Sprites, you'll have to interact with the people who live in the Village. They're mainly shopkeepers, but every so often they'll come visit you on your farm. Sometimes they're requesting something special for you, but most of the time they're there just to say "hi".

One of the interesting features about HM1 is the game is constantly saving your progress. There's no need to do anything special to save your game. So if your batteries die in your Gameboy, you won't loose all of the work you just did. The disadvantage to this is if you accidentally make a mistake and you think that turning off your Gameboy will reset it to the point before you goofed up. When you turn the game back on you'll be inside your farmhouse, but the game won't go backwards to any prior moment and you'll have to live with the mistakes you have made.

Starting the game is very easy. Just pick your gender, your name, your pet, and then your pet's name. After that you watch a scene with your Grandpa. He'll walk you through the buildings that are on the farm, and then you're ready to save the farm.

Harvest Moon 2

The whole game series started back in 1997 with the first one released for Super Nintendo, titled "Harvest Moon". Since then there have been several releases of the Harvest Moon gaming series spanning four different gaming consoles. Harvest Moon 2 for Gameboy Color is a sequel to the initial Harvest Moon release for Gameboy. Unlike the Super Nintendo, Playstation, and Nintendo 64 versions, the Gameboy versions of the game allow you to choose between playing a girl or a boy farmer. Specifying whether you want to be male or female determines how parts of the game will be played.

Harvest Moon 2's general storyline revolves around a small defunct village. The leader of the village determines that to stay alive, they must use the old abandoned farmland outside of town and turn it into an amusement park. Before this happens though, a brave farmer volunteers to take the rundown land and turn it into a productive farm. The leader of the village gives the farmer 3 years to accomplish this, else the village is doomed.

Harvest Moon 3

The latest Harvest Moon game for Gameboy Color is located on an island. Similar to Harvest Moon 2, you can choose to play either as a boy or a girl. The goal is the same (save the farm) but the way each gender is played is different! It's two games in one!

The hero has done well in reviving the farm by Flower Bud Village (Harvest Moon 2). One day Mr. Heinz comes to visit and tells the hero about his friend who runs a farm on an island far away. Unfortunately his friend has died and now his daughter is going to take care of the farm. The girl doesn't know the first thing about farming so Mr. Heinz hopes that the hero will travel to the island to help her revive her father's farm.

The heroine use to live on the island with her father Harry when she was a child. She eventually left the island to explore the world, but one day she received news that her father had died. She returned to the island in order to take care of her father's farm. The heroine never had the opportunity to learn how to run a farm from her father, but Mr. Heinz has told her that he has a friend who is coming to the island to help her.

There are now two world maps instead of just one; the Island map (where your farm resides) and the Mainland, where you go to buy equipment for your farm. Since the Mainland isn't accessible every day you're going to need to plan things in advance. Other features include....

Another Wonderful Life

User Image

Console: Gamecube

Another Wonderful Life is the female counter part of A Wonderul Life. The game play is pretty much the same as it is in A Wonderful Life. In Another Wonderful Life, Takura gets a note, from you, saying that you want to live on the farm. So you do.

There are three eligible people for marriage, just like in the male version. You buy the same animals as well. So there isn't much difference, but there are some little things.

You have to fertilize your field before it can grow grass. The huge fertile field in the back of your farm isn't available at first. The horse has learned to roll on the ground. You can teach your dog tricks. You can even change your clothes and home decor.

There are six chapter you go through and you age as time goes on. You have a son and he eventually grows up.

Harvest Moon DS Cute

User Image

Console: Nintendo DS

Nine months after the original HMDS release in Japan, Marvelous Interactive published the girl version of the Harvest Moon game. There isn't much difference between the boy and girl versions besides the obvious gender changes, but a few things have been added in.

» A new marriage candidate named Steiner.
» Buy different colored outfits for you to wear.
» Choose to play as the blond heroine from MFoMT, or the brunette from AnWL.
» Change your house carpet and wallpaper from six different designs.
» Earn a Best Friend status from Leia, Witch, Keria, or the Goddess.
» More random events added.
» Have a son or daughter child.
» The bachelors will change the color of their own clothing every day.

Everything else is the same as in the boy version of the game. Either versions of the GBA game can unlock the bonus music records, newspapers, and dvds from the connection system.

Harvest Moon Boy and Girl

User Image

Console: PSP

The first version of Harvest Moon to be released on the PSP console is simply a port of the Ps1 game Back To Nature and it's girl-version remake. When you start the PSP game you can choose which version of the Playstation 1 game you wish to play.
screen shot

The only thing added to the PSP version is the ability for you to make the game play in normal television 4:3 mode or wide screen to fill in the PSP's screen width. If you don't expand your view, the outside areas are filled with a grassy texture. You can switch between the two screen formats by triggering an option on the bookshelf inside your house.

It is unknown if this game will be launched in English. The girl version of Back To Nature was never released outside of Japan, so it would need to be translated into English by Natsume. Just like with the Ps1 version, the girl side of the PSP game does end once you get married.

The game was released a second time in November 2006 as part of the BEST collection, a series of popular PSP games relaunched with a lower price and a big yellow sticker slapped on the package.
