Alright, so I got on myspace the other day, and some guy had messaged me about my belief in anarchism.
I'll copy-paste the arguement.

Xo[Him.]:
" yuo say you are an anarchist? anarchy is not possible. you claim to be an anarchist, but you believe in unity? how is that so? anarchy is impossible because anarchy does not believe in any systems, only chaos. but anarchy itself is a system and therefore cannot exist. you believe in only fighting when people wrong you, but that is not even close to CHAOS which is the core of "anarchism." see anarchist is not the right word for you...i beleive they formed the word in the late 60's...it is called...HIPPIE!!!"

After reading this I figured he was an idiot, and since I was short on time, I copy pasted the excerpt on this guilds home-thing.
At which point he says...

Xo:
"Just to inform you that someone who derives their thinking from someone else is not an anarchist at all. The logic in the "brief" explanation you gave me is the most widely used co-opt argument used in modern society. The same argument of "If guns were outlawed only outlaws would have guns" is totally ludicris. If government was outlawed then would there be more chaos. You damn well can bet you will. How many times have you heard someone say they want to do somethng but they are scared the police will catch them. How many drug dealers have stopped dealing drugs in their area because the police were policing it heavier. That argument is ridiculous. Government is corrupt, but government is what runs this nation. Without it we would have no roads, no businesses, no schools, etc. This world would be nothing but sliding down the shitter. Maybe you should understand government before you criticize it. I have my PhD in Political Science dude and I know mroe about government and how it works than you will ever know. I also used to be into the whole punk thing for about 5 years and found out it was bull s**t. All systems have flaws, but you can damn well bet that life would be a hell of a lot worse with anarchy. Lastly, ANARCHY means by TRUE definition, not some hippie freelance writer: absence or denial of any authority or established order. Anarchy is itself hypocritical with that definition. Anarchy is a system. A system that believes in no system. There is no such thing as Anarchism. All this utopian bull s**t is against what the "true" anarchists were all about. They wanted to abolish government to rule themselves and have freedom. That thinking is establishing a system, a system of no government involvement and freedom. So i would suggest maybe next time use your own thinking rather than using a co-opt of someone elses writing to defend yourself. Because if you cannot even defend what you beleive in, how can you say it even exists!"

My beliefs were confirmed, I then replied with...
"You want me to use my own thinking? Alright.

Just because you have a PhD doesn't make me any more inferior to you in the field of government, hiearchy, monarchy, ogliarchy, or any thing else involving politics, and by saying "I know more about government than you ever will." you make yourself look like a total a**.
I wasn't being rude to you, you didn't have to be rude to me.

Why do drug dealers deal drugs?
Could it possibly be because they want to get rich quick?
Obviously.
Because in a capitalist society we are encouraged to make money, to compete against others for the biggest check.
And with this competition comes class, and a winner, and a loser.
The winner makes it to the top of the social ladder, at which point he/she uses their "skills" to exploit the working class.
Look at Walmart for example; the average employee working there only makes enough money to BUY things from there.
But it seems like you are trying to argue about government, but capitalism and government come hand-in-hand.

And claiming that without a government we'd have no roads, or other things that the government currently does for us is wrong.
When your garbage bag get's full, you take it out to the trash, correct?
The same principle applies to building roads.
You want a road? Find people who are willing to help build a road with you.
People aren't lazy, if we were, we wouldn't have bothered creating any system, instead we would have died off because no one wanted to get up and plant food, or butcher cattle, or whatever.
Profit does not drive us to work, the need for survival drives us to work.

Go look anarchy up, it says nothing about lack of order, or defiance of authority.
AnarchISM; not anarchy, is a belief, anarchy would be the current state of things if everyone was an anarchist that believed in anarchISM.

We have no need for authority, the only people who say things like, "Man, if I wasn't afraid of getting busted, I'd rape that chick!" clearly have some type of mental problem.
And there'd be no need to steal things in anarcho-communism, since you could make what you want yourself, trade something for it, etc.
But in the case someone does steal something, instead of throwing them in prison, we should adress the reason the person stole the thing in the first place.

And what are you talking about?
You obviously have no idea what the original anarchists were like, go read "The Conquest Of Bread" by Peter Kropotkin; who by chance happens to be one of the orginal anarchists!

I didn't even listen to Punk music when I discovered anarchism genius.
I already know the idiocy of the punk scene.

And again, anarchism is not the lack of a system, it's the lack of a government.

Take your ******** PhD and shove it up your a**.
At least I don't mispell my ******** words."

And now I'm waiting for his reply.

Your thoughts everyone?

"'That saying "if guns were outlawed only outlaws would have guns' is ludicrous"? Umm, actually, if he had any ******** brains at all then that statement would quite obviously be self-evident and furthermore there is nothing in that statement that it is even POSSIBLE to argue. Unless you're really dumb like this guy and try and disprove it by making a COMPLETELY UNRELATED ARGUMENT! And furthermore, if this guy knows so damn much about government, then how come he doesn't know that the entire point of government is to protect the profits of the rich (and that isn't just some conspiracy theory, it's actually been stated at various times by people working for the government!) In fact, until the establishment of democracy nobody even pretended that government had any other point, and back then it was in fact BY DEFINITION the rich who ruled (in reality it's the same now, but good luck trying to get this guy to see that, his head's too far up his a** to see anything other than the lies already shoved up there).
And this guy should really learn a little bit more about anarchism before he starts seeking out anarchists to bash. All he's doing is proving how little he knows about anything. Anarchism isn't "against all authority", it's against all HEIRARCHY! Authority can come in the form of authority for the sake of power, which is heirarchy (and is inherently exploitative), but it can also come in the form of earned authority, through knowledge. For example, I don't know much about herbal medicines, so if I needed to know something about them I would defer to someone who is an AUTHORITY on the subject. I would still make the decision myself, but I would first need to have acquired the knowledge to make that decision.
And schools are completely unneccesary. Even those (unfortunately many) who support them agree that children are naturally curious about the world around them. Children pick up language long before they're taught it in school (I, for example, was reading Hardy Boys books before school even begun "teaching" me my ABC's). Children will learn anything they want to learn, whether it's just by observing what they're exposed to or by sitting down all day and having some standardized crap force-fed to them (which they're going to forget soon anyway to make room for some more crap). This latter option not only destroys the potential for individuality by not allowing the students to develop their own interests and skill areas, but it also ensures that the student will actually learn LESS. They will also be forced to do that which is most unnatural and uncomfortable to young children- to sit unnaturally still without being allowed to even go to the bathroom without the teacher's permission, to not ask questions, to accept everything they're told- and will subsequently not enjoy learning. This pattern continues with middle and high school- the reading is standardized, which means the child will not be able to read what he or she enjoys reading, which in turn (obviously) means that he or she will not enjoy reading. As Derrick Jensen said, "Like many of my friends, I loved learning. Like many of my friends, I hated school. Why is that?"

ok i didnt totally read thru both of y'allz posts cuz they are ******** long but due to the prevalence of misspelled words and terrible grammar I believe that this guy most certainly does NOT have a PhD in anything. Also if he had a PhD he probably would've been required to take a few advanced social science and poli sci courses and probably would have a better working knowledge of anarchist political thought than 'OMG ANARKEE IZ KAOS!!"

Yeah, that's what I figured, he sounds like someone who's just trying to think he's super-elite and makes stuff up to try and intimidate me.
Which he failed too after spelling "You" wrong.

Mr. Awesome did you misspell "steaks' on purpose in your sig? Like, is it a play on words that is meant to symbolize your militant opposition to the meat industry? wink

Unfortunately the world is full of jackasses like that sad To be honest, it just made me laugh, and I seriously doubt he had a PhD in anything but putting his head up his own a**.

You did make a good reply though, it must be said.

He must have got tired of making him self look stupid, because he has made it so you have to be on his friend list to message him.

He basically repeated himself over and over though, making no more sense than the last time.

And I admit, I mispelled quite a few words several times, but nothing simple, and this is also excluding the fact I got all giddy when I was writing because I love proving people wrong, so I typed about 1,000 times faster and sloppier than I usually do.

Yeah, I get the same thing sweatdrop It's quite amusing. Plus my keyboard is screwy, (wireless technology stressed ) and it always misses out letters, which is really annoying, especially if i'm in the process of proving that someone is a jackass.

That guy certainly doesn't sound like he knows what anarchy really is, and he doesn't sound like a poli sci PhD, but I am in school for poli sci and there are plenty of graduating seniors who lack any knowledge of what anarchism is, so it wouldn't surprise me too much.

yeah ill have to agree with that fact. most teachers just brush over it cuz theyve been made to believe its foolish by their teachers. in a anarchist society we look at things no matter how outlandishly stupid they are. cuz ya never know if there is any gold buried in that trash. i too have taken these classes in college and am one of 3 in my entire college that know what it really means to be an anarchist.

Bingo. GNU/Linux is a flexible and yet modern operating system that has been coded solely by people who want a free, stable, and open source solution. The tech world has already understood the implications of The Cathedral and the Bazaar and I see no reason as to why such an inclusive method of maintenance can't be extended to governance.
