The Background:
The Pax, or Great Peace of the Republic, has ended. In the past ten years, the unease in the galaxy was palpable, with tensions growing between the Jedi, the sustainers of the Republic, and the Galactic Business Consortium, which sought to bend it to its own purposes. Coruscant was bound to be the epicenter. Just recently, The Company has begun a full-scale war with the Jedi, claiming that the guardians were to blame for the slew of assassinations in the Senate. The massacre was really the doing of The Company, who silenced the last of their opposition and now has full control over the Republic.
The Factions:
The Company: Also known as the Galactic Business Consortium, it is an extremely powerful corporation that has seized control of the Republic. They also control a massive paramilitary consisting of genetically-engineered, and force-empowered, troopers, made possible by research on secretly captured Jedi. More recently, they have assassinated the vast majority of their opposition in the Senate, and begun a war on the Jedi, claiming that they were responsible.
The Jedi: Due to harsh restrictions from the GBC, most Jedi had already made themselves scarce around Coruscant. Training in Force Concealment was suddenly in high demand. With the recent announcement from the GBC, the few remaining Masters fled into the Undercity. They train the few Force hopefuls that manage to slip through the fingers of The Company, in hopes of restoring order on Coruscant and in the Galaxy.
The Dark Jedi: Thought extinguished long ago, the Dark Jedi have been watching from a distance, steadily gaining power and waiting for the opportune moment to strike at the heart of the Republic and conquer the galaxy for themselves. With the Jedi and The Company turned against each other, this is the moment they have been waiting for to begin their assault. Sleeper cells on Coruscant are waking up and heeding the call of their Dark Lord.
The Citizens' Front: Begun by an insightful Senator, they have been opposing the GBC's growing power over the Republic. Recent crackdowns have forced them underground, and it was decided that the only way to end The Company's choke-hold on the Republic is by military force. A large number of extremely determined and resourceful citizens have flocked to the Front.

Already put in my two cents, so I'm good. ^^
The one thing that I might add, though, is that there should be some actual name, other than just the Galactic Business Consortium. At least give it some Star Wars-ish name, like Czerka or Mandal Motors had.

WC has a point, but at the same time these are just variables to construct a system. Names are easy enough to create and insert, so no worries about that.
Otherwise, it looks good. Any underlining themes? I guess that'll stream from character developments.

Actually, GBC is kind of appealing to me. It's both snobbish and cold at the same time. If anyone has a good name for it, though, I'm all ears (or eyes, I suppose).

ROTJ, Leni. Return of the Jedi. The words "New Republic" didn't clue you in?
EDIT: Ah, I see you edited. It's about 10 ABY, leaving time for all the movie characters to die out and/or be killed. Clean slate. There will be no relations to canon characters.

Euler ROT J, Leni. Return of the Jedi. The words "New Republic" didn't clue you in? EDIT: Ah, I see you edited. It's about 10 ABY, leaving time for all the movie characters to die out and/or be killed. Clean slate. There will be no relations to canon characters. Good, except stuff like Kyle Katarn and the new jedi order that would be around, or are we going to sweep that under the rug like it doesn't exist?

Their are a couple books beyond that even. (The swarm wars)

Hoo boy, this is hard to explain.
Okay, this RP is one possibility of what could have happened following the founding of the New Republic, if certain events happened/didn't happen. Slightly clearer?
For example, and this has nothing to do with our RP: If Palpatine had never been elected Chancellor, everything following that would be drastically different, right? The TF woulda smoked Naboo, There would be no Clone Wars, and no Emperor.
Same thing, except we're altering a whole bunch of different events, including births and deaths of canonical characters.

Past that is altered to the rp specs.

Everything through the movies is the same, okay? After the Second Death Star is destroyed, the Alliance exterminates the Imperial remnant before all of the major players, Han, Leia, Luke, Lando, Chewie, Ackbar, all of them, die somehow. The characters that would be born in this time, Kyle Katarn, all of them, never get born. Instead, our characters become the star characters. The Yuzhan Vong (or however you spell it) never invade. Instead, the Company rises to power. Okay? Maybe we'll go for about 25 ABY instead, to give it more time.
