Lewis Hamilton made British sporting history on Sunday by winning the Canadian Grand Prix in only his sixth start in Formula 1.
The McLaren super-rookie kept his composure through four safety car periods in a chaotic race to dominate an event he seemed destined to win since taking pole position in Montreal on Saturday.
Having out-duelled world champion team-mate Fernando Alonso again at the start, Lewis stretched his lead whenever at racing speed and never looked like losing his advantage.
He now leads the drivers' world championship with 48 points, eight ahead of Alonso.
"It has been a fantastic day, this is history," he said afterwards.
"To come here the first time in Canada and win, it's been a fantastic season already, I have been ready for quite some time for the win but just when or when.
"The team gave me a perfect car. The Safety Car made it a bit boring, but once we got going it got more exciting."
The ecstatic Lewis was quick to heap praise on his father Anthony, who has supported his career since his karting days.
"I have to dedicate this one to my dad because without him it wouldn't all be possible," he said.
"I have to say hello to all my family back home, and all the fans and the team – at Woking, Stuttgart and Brixworth to prepare the car.
"Going into Indy, I go there with great confidence, we have to try to continue with the performance we have."
