PERSONALITY
Thistle is friendly and charismatic. He goes out of his way to meet people, and then goes out of his way to know all about them. Sometimes he may ask more questions than is actually polite.

He's a a bit on the lazy side, prefering to hang around with people than actually go get work done. He won't go out of his way for people, but will usually turn them down in a joking, friendly way.

Thistle is looking for the easy life. He'd love to be able to just sit around in cafes and taverns all day with a beer and some good company.

The natural world holds some fascination for Thistle, but he's not horribly knowledgable about it. For a Muscheron, he's very cosmopolitan and city-oriented, prefering to be with people than with plants and animals. He would be able to live in the forest for a period of time (maybe because the local towns had become aware of his gig? xd ) but he would prefer to be in a populated area. He views more natural Muscherons with a mix of contempt ("What an ignorant yokel!") and envy, but wouldn't express any of that out loud.

He's very familiar several different races, notably humans, Pennier, and his kin the Muscherons. He has probably never met a Duszek. His experiences with Ejderha have been limited and short, and he has never tried to con one, being a little afraid of them. He has always hidden from Lamia and has never met one face-to-face, only seen them from a distance.

HISTORY
Thistle is the youngest child of eleven, in a family of tricksters and thieves traveling through the Relinswood and the surrounding area. For years before he was born, his family has run the same basic scam: One of their children would pose as an orphan and approach a well-to-do human or pennier family or couple. The child would work her way into the family’s good graces for several weeks until the victims trusted her, and often even would consider taking her in as their own child. All that time, the child would be returning to her real parents with tactical information for the coming heist. When an opportunity would present itself, the real family would cat burgle the place for anything that wasn't nailed down. The child would disappear during the heist.

Thistle spent most of his early life playing the "sweet, helpless orphan." He had a knack for it. Even human and pennier families (the usual targets) would be taken by his charm and big, soulful eyes. After one burglary, the childless human couple spent months searching for Thistle, putting up posters and offering rewards. They thought that he had been taken in the heist, not one of that masterminds behind it.

When Thistle was 9 years old, his parents and siblings never appeared at the rendezvous point after a heist. He waited in the designated thicket for several days, but no one showed up. Thistle wasn't sure if they had abandoned him or if they'd been caught, but he couldn't wait any longer.

Without his family to return to, Thistle made his way back to his "foster" home, hoping that perhaps the pennier couple he had been staying with would believe that he had nothing to do with the crime. Unfortunately for Thistle, they had figured him out, and drove him out of the town.

Thistle wandered from city to city for several years, sometimes playing his old role -- the sweet, helpless orphan -- then taking off with provisions and valuables to sell. Sometimes he would rough it in the woods. He joined a Muscheron community for several months only to be driven out when he was identified as related to a family that had scammed half the village a year ago. Thistle discovered that his family had survived the heist in which he was abandoned, and that they weren't looking for him.

During this period Thistle developed his fighting style. His original technique was to tie a bright scarf to a low-hanging tree branch to attract an animal or monster, and then attack the creature from behind. When he picked up a companion or two in his wanderings, he learned that it worked even better to play the bait while the others attacked. His own weapon and his skill at dodging kept him mostly out of harm's way.

{ Thistle met and joined a group of human and Muscheron con artists at the perfect time for him -- he was growing too old for his helpless orphan act to work. The group, calling themselves "Madam Iluminada's Transciedental Fortunes and Séances: not for the Weak of Heart," would run a con where they would send a member of the group (preferably one of the Muscherons) into a village as a "traveller" and pick up as much of the current gossip and rumors as possible. The traveller then leaves and meets up with the other members of the group, who come into town a day later. They would pretend to be travelling with a fortune teller, who would then use all the information and gossip to stage elaborate readings and séances. The villages would be amazed at the accuracy and would pay dearly for attempts to speak with their dead and know their "futures." After the town had been milked for all the money they were worth, the "Madam Iluminada" group would move on.

The con ran foul a few to many times, and the Relinswood and Ravelle started getting to hot for the fortune tellers. Some discussion led to the option of travelling down to the Isle of Murzim and laying low until their reputation died down.
}

Thistle and his friends took a ship from the mainland to Murzim from the Pennier port of Tochantier, and settled into Aschere easily, meeting people and making friends, with some legit fortune-telling on the side.

Thistle decided to join the League to improve his fighting skills, and gain information about the members. { The possibility of running a con against them has crossed his mind. }

COMMON KNOWLEDGE
Just that Thistle is a charming Muscheron, friendly and gregarious. He's got a Muscheron and a few human friends who live in the area around Aschere who tell fortunes, and he's occationally seen talking and laughing with them. But then again, Thistle can get in a conversation with just about anyone.

DIVISION Melee
CLASS PROGRESSION Lure > Provoker > Matador
HP: 32 >> 37 >> 47
Evade: 15 >> 19 >> 24

Thistle is left-handed, and wields his short sword with that hand. In his right hand, he carries a brightly colored scarf sewn to a short, sharpened staff. This staff can be used as a short spear (either in melee or thrown as a ranged weapon) in emergencies, but its main purpose is a diversion.

The main goal of Thistle's fighting style is to draw attention to himself and especially his right hand (and therefore away from any companions or Thistle's sword hand). The secondary goal is to try to enrage or confuse his opponent, encouraging mistakes in judgment.

As a Lure, Thistle concentrates solely on distracting his opponent. (3/0/2) At his second level, Provoker, he adds a technique to confuse and enrage. (7/0/3) When he achieves his final level of Matador, he strengthens both skills. (11/0/4)

BATTLE SKILLS

Bait and switch: (Positive Stat effect -- Evade/self-only) As a Lure, Thistle can distract an opponent and convince it to attack his banner rather than him. This translates into a +2/+4/+6 to Thistle's evade, depending on his level. The effect lasts 1, 2, or 3 rounds depending on his level.

Taunt: (Charge) As a Provoker, Thistle can taunt an opponent and can give himself a one-time bonus on his next attack against that opponent with his chosen skill. At level 1, he gives himself a +3, at level 2 it's a +6, and at level 3 it's a +9. This bonus only lasts for the round directly after Thistle has studied his target and then disappears.

Needs a name: (Attack Vital Areas) Needs a description

Poison Resistant (Muscherons): Muscherons are naturally resistant to poisons. Attempts to poison a Muscheron will always fail. Muscherons, however, can be burnt, heavily bled, etc and therefore are not immune to other forms of skill Poison.

NARRATIVE SKILLS

Convincing tone: Thistle is very good at convincing people that he is On Their Side, and that he is Right About This Matter. He cannot convince anyone of anything that goes against their basic nature, is extremely far-fetched, or would be harmful to them. He could probably convince a shopkeeper to let his tab slide once or twice, but they will catch on.

Climbing (Muscherons): Muscherons are highly skilled climbers and are able to climb extremely steep surfaces (trees, walls). As long as a surface has some traction (ie, isn't slippery or made of glass) a Muscheron can scale it.

WEAPON Short sword, sharpened staff with banner (see above)
LEVEL One
POINT ASSIGNMENT Melee (3), Ranged (0), Magic/Other (2)
HIT POINTS 32
EVADE 15
OTHER NOTES Because Thistle's fighting style depends on his reflexes and speed more than his brute strength, his evade and hitpoints are more like a typical ranged fighter rather than a melee fighter.

Uhm, for Enrage, it might be easiest to just call it a form of Negative Stat Effect (Melee) or something, since that is the stat that effects how well you can hit people?

I'll read other stuff later. (Don't kill me. ;_; )

Hey, don't worry about it. Why do you always think I'm going to beat you up? xd

Mostly I've just put a lot of work into this today and I wanted someone to come by and say "GOOD FOR YOU!" and then go on their merry way. xd

Oh man, I absolutely loved the history. This character is really interesting. I was really curious about why Thistles family didn't pick him up after the last heist; this is just my personal interest though, whether or not you mention it in the actual history won't effect the speed of your approval, I reckon. XD

I will probably talk with the other mods about Thistles skills tomorrow. So, yes.

I heart thistle. Can't wait to see him finished.

Looks like my finalized list is not so final after all. :XP:

Yeah, EK and I have tossed around ideas and we might have to add something like the difference between First-Aid and Heal. I'll talk with EK tonight to see how we want to handle some of the remaining oddities.

I might just scrap the Enrage idea and use one of hte newly approved skills. I'll have to look at them, though.

I'm messing with the history still. I came up with an idea I really like involving a second group of conmen. I'm still working it in, though.

Yay, Thistle!

I'm wondering: What does Thistle tell other people that he does for a living? It's not like he can just come out and admit that he's a con man (or even a supposedly reformed con man).

Maybe he just calls himself an "adventurer" or a "hunter." In most fantasy worlds, that's a perfectly acceptable answer.

Thistle is a really cute, interesting character. I especially love the whited-out bit in the history. What you have now is great, and all you really need is a bit more fleshing out in the personality and history sections. Here’s some questions to think about. They’ll hopefully help you to add a bit more to the character’s personality.

Quote:
Personality Questions
Thistle is inquisitive – apparently, sometimes obnoxiously so. What happens when Thistle asks too many questions? Does he even notice that he’s bothered someone? Is he apologetic? Does he ignore it or change the subject?

In general, is Thistle a polite person?

Since Thistle is lazy, does he load his work off onto other people? Or does he at least get his own jobs done himself? Does he often seek help? And if so, does he recognize this as hypocritical at all?

Aside from the obvious Lamia fear, would he hold any prejudice for any of the other races? Are there any races in particular that he’s got a penchant for taking advantage of?

Does Thistle take advantage of people regularly? Or is it only on a by-need basis?

What makes Thistle angry? Sad? Scared? How does he show these emotions?

How good of a speaker is Thistle? Is he charming or annoying? Does he have a velvet tongue?

Does he feel any loyalty toward the Asterion League? For that matter, does he feel loyalty toward the other organization to which he belongs?

History Questions
Where are his parents now? And why didn’t they come to get him?

How did/does Thistle feel about his family abandoning him?

Was there anything particularly exciting that happened when Thistle joined/tried to join the League? (Did he participate in a contest? Or did he just sign up? Or anything else?)

Hopefully these questions will give you some help! Keep up the great work!
