A good Marxist answer would be that polarization is product of the bitter class struggle taking place with in our soceity and we should hope it increases so clear lines between opressor and opressed should form.

Well, Mr. Steve Sage, for once you made a semi-intelligent statement in here... *glances from side to side, looking for a trap* But as for increasing it, you are mistaken, or are reading far too much Althusser for your own good. Our goal as communists is to break down class differences in order to create an egalitarian society.

The conflict in ideologies comes from the difference between the way that things are and the way that they ought to be. In general, people support their own political interests, or what they are led to believe are their interests. Supporting one group's interest generally means that another group gets shortchanged. So, this leads to a growing gap between ideologies. When one ideology cannot support the vast needs of the people, more conflicting ideologies spring up in the attempt to do so, as a reaction to the social circumstances of the time.

Class divisions are a big part of this. The poor of any nation are generally the most marginalized. With power generally comes money, or perhaps, with money comes power. We see a world in which social status and elitism becomes increasingly important, but at the expense of who? This is where we come into the picture, as the supporters of the working class...
