Racing? Whazzat?
Dragons race in the much same way humans would. They choose a racetrack (there are many all over the city) and a random number of laps to run is chosen (dragons choose laps randomly so that endurance-based dragons can win as many races as speed-based dragons, on average.) Then both dragons start running. The one who completes the assigned number of laps first, wins.

Great! So, how do I race my dragon?

First, make sure you've read all the racing rules. Then, find a partner to race on the main Speed and Scales thread, or by asking for a racing partner in this subforum. Choose who will be player 1 and who will be player 2, then make a thread and start racing!

So, what do I get if I win?
Bragging rights razz There's no prize for winning against another player's dragon, but if you enter big tournaments sponsored by the shop you can win prizes. You may also want to record your wins and losses in your dragon's journal.

The instructions below aren't quite clear enough/I need clarification
Feel free to PM me, and I'll help you learn your way around the battle system or clear up anything that the instructions don't describe properly.

Rules:

- Be a good sport. Duh. Don't try and cheat, or whine if you lose, or brag too much if you win. Because most dragons are evenly matched, you won't win every race you play.

-Please make a new thread for each race, it helps us keep track of things better.

- If you aren't sure of how something works, and have a disagreement with your racing partner, please PM me and I will help resolve it.

- If you're roleplaying during a race, make sure you know and follow the roleplaying rules too.

- Have fun! That's what dragon racing is really all about biggrin

How To Race:

Dragon racing is based on rolling dice, different ones depending on your dragon's stats and what round of the race you're running. Each round, you roll one die in your post, and that's how many laps your dragon has run.
In rounds 1 and 2, roll your ACCELERATION die.
In rounds 3 and 4, roll your SPEED die.
In rounds 5 and up, roll your ENDURANCE die.

Your stats are all listed as "Dx" with x being the number of sides on the dice you get to roll for that stat.

Before the Race Begins
Players 1 and 2 agree to have a race, and agree who's going first (Player 1) and who's second (Player 2).

Starting the Race
Player 1 begins the thread, and rolls 1d6. Players multiply the number rolled by 5 to get the number of laps they have to run to win. He includes in the first post images of both dragons' certificates.

Round 1
Player 1 posts again, using this form:

Round #:
Total previous laps:

Since this is the first lap, he fills it in like this:
........ Round #: 1
........ Total previous laps: 0
In the same post he rolls his dragon's acceleration die to see how many laps he runs in this round.

Player 2 then posts the same form, and fills it in the same way, and rolls her dragon's acceleration die to see how many laps she runs in round 1.

User ImageRound 2
Player 1 posts his form again, this time adding to "total previous laps" the number he rolled in his last post, and updating the round # to two. He rolls his acceleration die again to run for round two.

Player 2 does the same.

Round 3
Player 1 posts his form, having added up his dice rolls from rounds 1 and 2 to get his new "total previous laps" score. Because it's now round 3, he rolls his speed die to determine how far he goes this time.

Player 2 does the same.

Etc.
This process continues, where each round player 1 posts his new total and rolls the appropriate die (speed die in round 4, then endurance die every round afterwards) and then player 2 does the same.

Winning
When your "total previous laps" and the number you have just rolled equal or exceed the number of laps in the race, your dragon has finished! If both players finish in the same round, the player who goes over by the most wins.

If both players have gone over by the same amount, the race is neck-and-neck. To determine who wins, each player rolls a d100. Whichever dragon rolls higher has managed to pull through and get ahead right at the end, and wins the race.

In major tournaments, roleplaying abilities will sometimes be used as a tiebreaker, instead of the usual d100 system.

Once the winner has been decided, Player 1 should post a message confirming the winner and the loser.

Roleplaying During a Race

It's recommended that you roleplay a round out while posting for the next round, so you know how well your dragon has run. For example, if you post for round 1 and roll an 8, you can make an RP post while posting for round 2 about how your dragon starts the race with a brilliant burst of speed, zipping out into the lead. While posting round 3, you can comment on your round 2 roll, etc.
