NEW GUNDAM SERIES!!

sources: wikipedia.org and my cousin =3

my cousin from Ocean Studios just phoned me, telling me about a new Gundam series called Gundam 00. it is set to release in Japan this October! you can look it up on wikipedia by typing Gundam 00 into the search. i'm really excited about it, and my cousin said that Ocean Studios has already had a meeting with the producers in Japan to subtitle and dub it in English ^.^

you should probably post this in the Gundam Seed News Announcements mishu! =3

They're coming out with another series? And so soon? OKay...maybe it isn't so soon, but it didn't feel like it's been so long since they aired Destiny...but ah, well.

Hmm...I'm pretty skeptical whenever they come out with a new Gundam series and the fact that the creator of this one is the same guy who created Fullmetal Alchemist...I wasn't too fond of that show.

But we'll see. Though, I'm not too sure if Sunrise or CN will support anymore Gundam series since they didn't bother airing Destiny...or rather it really depends on the ratings that this one will receive in Japan.

Oh, and thanks angel for the news!

No, it's not the next C.E. series or the...long awaited SEED Destiny Supernova. Here is a link to the official site, along with a short teaser here. The title is Kidou Senshi Gundam 00(pronounced double O), very little information is known, but according to the preview, those who can pilot Gundams are known as Meisters. They are part of an organization called the Celestial Beings, a group that is paid to stop wars. Nothing too clear about this, but it sounds like they work for whoever pays the most. This will be the first series to take place in the A.D. calendar, taking place in 2370. And the most persistently rumored staff members, directing, FMA's Seiji Mizushima, writing, from s.CRY.ed and Trigun, Yosuke Kuroda, character designers, Yun Kouga from Loveless.

First thing I'm happy about? No more Hisashi Hirai! I really like the character designs, it's great to actually get some diversity back into the franchise again, looks like a mix of Yun Kouga and CLAMP's work. Of course I doubt CLAMP would be involved, but it would be interesting to see them in a Gundam series. The Gundams themselves look a lot more basic than the SEED Gundams looked off the bat, I hope that means we won't have uber owning of enemies every other episode.

And for people surprised that the next series wasn't a C.E., it's been known for a while. Sunrise's Yasuo Miyakawa stated last year that they want to set up three main fan "pillars" for the Gundam world, U.C., C.E. and a new world to attract new viewers. This doesn't meant we'll never get series outside of those three worlds, but apparently these are going to be the main focus of the franchise from now on. The series will air at 6:00 PM on Saturday, something considered a prime time slot in Japan. The last few shows to have that slot were Gundam SEED, Full Metal Alchemist, Gundam SEED Destiny, and Blood+.

New info:

AEUG
From Sotsu Agency's official website, the press release for Mobile Suit Gundam 00, the 12th Gundam TV series and the first to be broadcast in Hi-Def. The premise is given as follows:

"The setting is Earth 300 years from the present day, in 2307 AD. The series depicts the protagonist, Setsuna F. Seiei, who pilots a mobile suit (Gundam Excia) for a mysterious private militia (Celestial Being), going against a whole world where conflicts never cease and the struggle to eradicate war."

Setsuna F (Fanron) Seiei:

A Gundam Meister for the Celestial Being. He grew up in the war torn middle east and was discovered by Celestial Being at the age of 14 to have the special potential as a pilot. He doesn't speak much and comes off as a cool young man. He is now 16 years old.

Celestial Being:

The mysterious organization that strives to end all wars and change the world with only 4 Mobile Suits. Aside from the aim to put an end to all warfare, they have no ties to any government, is strictly non-profit and subscribes to no particular ideology..

There was also a bit of stuff the director said about the show. They want it set in AD to have the show's political views reflect that of the current world. There are three major factions in the series, The Union, a group made of the US, Japan, Canada, and Australia. Then there's People's Reform Federation, made of China, Russia, and India. Finally, the Celestial Being, a group made up of refugees and deserters who strive for a world free of war, despite having only four mobile suits, they are a formidable force.

Now, for background information on a few the confirmed staff, first, the director.

Seiji Mizushima (director)

His most noteable work is Full Metal Alchemist, but he has also worked on Gao Gai Gar, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Dai-Guard and Generator Gawl.

Yun Kouga (character designer)
She was the mangaka for Loveless and has done work on some minor OVAs, Gundam 00 is her first major project.

Takayuki Yanase (head mechanic designer)

He has worked on a number of projects in the past, his first was Gundam X. He's also done Zegapain, Darker Than Black, Eureka 7, and he is the current head of the show that 00 is replacing, Towards the Terra.

Pictures from Newtype: Gundam Excia, 01, 02.

NowhereManXP
Whoo hoo! New Mobile Suit Gundam 00 goodies!

Starting from the top...

  • We now have a name for the blue Gundam shown in the teaser: the Gundam Excia.

  • Its "Meister" is the dark-haired boy at the end of the trailer, whose name is Setsuna Fanron Seiei. He grew up in the "wor-torn" Middle East and was discovered by "Celestial Being" when he was 14 to have great potential as a pilot. He's rather quiet and comes off as cold. He's currently 16 years of age.

  • "Celestial Being" is a "mysterious" non-profit, politically-unaffiliated, non-ideological organization that is attempting to single-handedly stop armed conflict with only the four GUNDAMs that it created.

  • The GUNDAM Mobile Suits were created independently by "Celestial Being," and far surpass anything the two warring superpoweres have to offer. Each is designed to decimate entire armies individually.

  • Our new power-generator of choice is called a "Solar Generator," which is really just a common name for a generator known as the "GN Drive." I'm not actually sure how it works yet, but apparently it somehow uses the power of the Sun to destroy matter (emitting positrons and photons) to create electrical energy. It also doesn't give off any excess heat as a by-product. Compact versions of these Generators are what power the GUNDAMs.

  • This series' Minovsky particle-wannabe is the GN particle, which seems to be an abnormal neutrion that was stumbled upon by the scientific community accidentally. They're the origin of the research that led to the GN Drive, and when a GN Drive is activated, these particles are automatically created. And yes, they do mess with radio waves.

  • The two warring superpowers seem to be the Union (America, Japan, Canada, and Australia), and the People's Reform Alliance (China, Russia, India).

  • There appear to be (gasp! Gundam first!) no space colonies. At least, none have been mentioned so far.

Continue discussing!

I honestly don't know what to make of all this, really. Most of the staff checks out just fine, though I'm not too keen on the manga-ka for Loveless being a character designer. The premise seems as if it's been taken directly out of Gundam Wing (with a few slight adjustments to make it look more "original," of course).

WOOT! awesome!!

yeah i looked it up. man, Excia is a COOL name for a gundam. it seems to me it'll be a repeat of Wing though... having a team of four main pilots working themselves on a mission against the enemy. and it's based on the Gregorian era... now isn't THAT familliar? XD

thanks for the news angel! =D

Though looking at the teaser, I do like some of the new character designs. I'm more concern on how they will do the characterization. Even if this series may be like Wing, that series did lack intense characterization that made SEED so wonderful. What I mean is growth in character and how their environment impact their decision-making.

Quote:
The official site updated with an outline & staff section. Nobuto Sue's name is added alongside Kenji Teraoka and Hitoshi Fukuchi to the list of concept designers. Also worth noting is Kunio Okawara is credited third as a mechanic designer, behind Kanetake Ebikawa & Takayuki Yanase. In Sotsu Agency's press release, Okawara wasn't mentioned at all, potentially indicating a reduced role for him compared to his level of participation in other Gundam series. The official site will formally open on July 10.

The story outline:
"2307 AD.

As fossil fuels became exhausted, humanity found a new energy source to change their situation: A large-scale solar power system with three enormous orbiting elevators. However, only a few large countries and their allies reaped the benefits.

Three superpowers had ownership of the three orbiting elevators: The Union, based in the United States Of America, The People's Reform League, made up of China, Russia, and India, and Europe's AEU. The superpowers continue playing a large zero-sum game for their own dignity and respective prosperity. Even though it is the 24th century, humanity has yet to become one.

In this world where war has no end, a private militia appears advocating the eradication of war through force. Each possessing a mobile suit Gundam, they are Celestial Being. The armed intervention by the Gundams against all acts of war begins."

Well, at this point it's safe to say that a lot of ideas have been exhausted, but it does seem similar to Wing. I'm interested to see how they manipulate the plot after the results of SEED. I'd like to say that I hope they've learned something...

high definition format? i wonder how different it is going to be ^^"

update: my cousin says Ocean Studios is planning to sign for the dubbing and subbing, but there is competition. however, Sunrise is thinking to be in favour of Ocean Studios because they have dubbed four previous Gundam Series.

as well, in a recent interview, the director claimed that this new series is based off both Gundam Wing and Z Gundam... though the plot is very different. i'm not too sure about these pieces of information, but i suppose it should give us a hint as to what the gundams will do, and what the characters are like.

Well, I hope that it's not too flashy. I noticed one thing in SEED that seemed quite unrealistic... they enjoyed using special effects a lot. My friend hates SEED for that - the smoke from the explosions is pink and the lasers look like they're putting on a show. I think it just changes the atmosphere, but I suppose they won't be changing that aspect any time soon.

from the preview it looks cool...but me loves seed too much
PostPosted: Fri Jun 15, 2007 1:29 pm

aww i know what you mean! if i watch the new series, i'm going to start comparing EVERYTHING to SEED ^^"

i noticed that too; SEED turned away from many traditions of the Gundam Series in general. the emphasis on different philosophies and beliefs really drained out. but i have to admit, the drama and romance made up for it so much that it became my favourite Gundam Series of them all ^.^

i suppose the only reason why SEED had so many flashy moments is because it takes place in the Cosmic Era, which is technically the newest age of all the Gundam Series we know

yeah but the mechs in SEED got a full upgrade compared to all the other gundam series. going back on the timeline'll really be a good change in a way. more traditional to the series.

the animation is a lot more like Wing, but the high def will change it for the better im sure.
