I do not believe physical shifting is possible, and I will probably hold this belief until I see it performed more than once with my own eyes.
But lets assume, for a moment, that it is.
While we all agree it would totally kick a** to undergo a physical shift, how do you think people would react? What kind of impact would it have on your body (nothing's free, all the energy that would be needed has to come from somewhere)? What do you think would bring it about, and how would it happen?

I think your body would go explodey and then the molecules would rearrange themselves.
That would be an exothermic reaction of course, obviously leaving you with lessened energy. The replenishment of which you would accomplish by going on an eating binge, converting mass quantities of food back into energy for your body. You would then become drowsy from fullness and the exertions of the "hunt", most likely fall asleep, and then return to your natural from.
I think I just scientifically described the classic werewolf transformation, if nothing else. ninja

In short, there is no assuming it is real. No matter what, if you physically shifted, you would die.
So no, we don't all agree it would kick a**. >.> Even if it was remotely possible, I would absolutely not want it to happen to me.
Such a rapid transformation would require an extreme amount of energy, not to mention you can't just produce fur or something when your cells aren't programmed to do that. There's no doubt in my mind it wouldn't be excruciatingly painful as well for bones, muscle, or skin to start twisting and breaking and ripping if you did survive however long.

if i were to physically shift i imagine it would hurt ALOT. turning inside out would be bad. very bad. but i think it'd be easier to stay that way. truth be told i came pretty close today when my history teacher was talking about how wonderful roman christianity was and how "the old pagan religion oppressed the people, so people started to become drawn to this new idea of equality" i ended up putting my headphones on and tuning out the rest of the class.

Kii&Co.:: I think he means it would be rather kickass taking a form that fits us best, sans any repercussions or consequences. Which, I have to say I agree with.
Well, people would freak out in my case, me turning into a wolf. If others witnessed someone changing into, say, a cat, they would freak out too, of course; but just seeing a wolf in someone's house would freak people out, regardless of human origins, I'm not proud to say.
In terms of energy, yeah, it would exhaust the shifter extraordinarily, and I think it might be done by incredible mental control, and a bitchload of energy stimulation, maybe. Depending on the press coverage, it could or could not cause a social reform of beliefs and what the human race perceives as 'real' or 'possible'. <3 Rufu

From what i've seen and heard from people I've spoken with myself, a lot of people say they don't believe in many things they take for granted when in a situation. Energy flow in the body for example. My friend lanzhi didn't believe in the principles of Tai Chi Chuan until i sent her six feet through the air with my palm. While that was a rather dramatic example, I do not believe a physical shift would (or could) be performed outside of the realm of the supernatural.

i have spoken with many who say they have achieved it, but that it is difficult to hold. i must admit that despite the pain i would like to do it. i miss flying dearly, and flying on the astral plane is a pale shadow of the feeling of flight. However, I would be worried about the reactions of people if they saw a 15 foot dragon flying around. It'd be bloody hilarious to land on someone's house though.

Or buzz them at work through the 40th floor window of an office twisted
I think if there was any pain with would be like pushing against a burning wall. It gets harder and more painful the harder you push, then pop- you're on the other side. While i cannot logically believe it to be possible, it would be nice to get the body and soul to match up once or twice. Might ease the ache in my shoulders for a while.

i think this thread should now be about amusing things you would do were you able to physically shift.
I like the office idea, except i'd find those big ones with the mirrored glass, then i'd spit fire at the glass and superheat it until it exploded, and make myself a nest in the building XD. jus tthe expressions of businessmen coming into work to find that a dragon has curled up on top of their desk and the desk on either side of theirs would be hilarious.

If I could shift into my tiger self I'd like to go down to the lake and swim through the parts that are made for people to swim and claim I'm hunting...think about.
Shark attack vs swimming white tiger attack?

White tigers can't get you from underneath, so as long as you can outswim them, you should be good.
And as a proud competitive swimmer, I'd bank on the odds of me outswimming a tiger. mrgreen If a shark actually wanted to eat me though, I'd be screwed.

I'd fly around tourist-y parts of New York and Manhattan and swoop down to steal people's hot dogs twisted
A seagull did that to some girl on a tour boat one, took the dog right out of the bun- she was too surprised to shoo it away rofl

Dude...if I could turn into my lynx, I think I'd be too busy enjoying the feeling of being right for once to cause any mischief...
