Here's the long story of how I got into the Damned:
For some reason or another I downloaded the Captain Sensible Song "Wot" and I had it on my ipod. I liked it, but I didn't listen to it that much...more on that later.
So here on Gaia I met Drams in the Remember Rio thread, and she always talks about how much she loves the Damned and Dave Vanian. So, one day I noticed Dram's Captain Sensible mule and I told her that everytime I saw it, it reminded me of the song "Wot," which made her happy. She sent me some pic's and I finally put two and two together and realized that the jolly good Captain was in the Damned *Smacks forehead* redface ...lol.
Anywhoo...I told Dram's that I was curious to hear the Damned, so she kindly sent me some mp3's (which I instantly fell in love with mrgreen ) and the music really helped me get through the rough times I was going through last month. So, I thank Drams for that. heart
Sorry if that was a little sappy, but it's true!

Mine's is a boring story. sweatdrop Basically I had just joined gaia and I went into the dangerous music forum (bum, bum, bumm!!!)
I posted things like "BUT LINKIN PERK IS PUNK111!!" and other embarrassing things I don't want to get into...and I was corrected and flamed into oblivion. rofl
Then I can't recall who, but someone said, "You want real punk music - listen to Bad Religion and the Damned." Their lectures went on and on and while they were preaching I looked them up on their myspace page. It had three songs from the "Black Album" and "Smash It Up." I was hooked by their innovative sound, and as soon as I heard "Smash It Up" I started dancing. xDD And I never dance. Well, that's how I got into them. Pretty quickly too.

Le Gasp! A n00b turned Damned Disciple! whee Didja ever try BR? They is good too. Nice Moz ani in yer rando sig. Aaaaaaaand to steer things back on topic domokun MY STORY!!! oooh ahhhh ok ok I don't remember the actual first time I heard of the Damned, they were always sort of well, there, I was (and still am) a big Clash fan and i liked punk and whatever, but I never really explored the Damned. I think i may have actually heard the Offspring cover of Smash It Up before i ever heard the original!! I believe the first Damned song i ever really got into was Lookin For Action cos it was on some warped Tour Cd. I liked it, but i didn;t think much about the band themselves. Then later i heard New Rose and Smash It Up, ditto. then like waaaaaaaaay later i saw the Shadow Of Love video and fell in love with Davles, and the rest... was NOT history cos i kinda forgot about them again sweatdrop Now heres the thing, I have no clue wot made me dive into an obsession with the band. I've tried to pinpoint it and cant. But one day i just decided to ask the library to order Phantasmagoria, and while i eagerly awaited that i listened to New Rose and Smash It Up over and over and over in an attempt to familiarise myself with the band. Then i had access to a better comp and found out about Youtube(thru a link for a Sisters Of mercy performance-another great band), and dowloaded songs and then, my dears, the rest , was history. cool

Uh, well, I bought a copy of the Punk issue of Mojo a few years ago, and there was a story in there on the Damned. I read it and was thoroughly amused by the things Rat Scabies and The Captain did on tour and I decided to check them out. I bought Damned Damned Damned and I loved it!

I saw an interview with them (on MTV of all places) back in like 1986-87 where they were slagging off the Clash for not knowing how to play their instruments, and how Joe Strummer had the notes written up the neck of his guitar. lol
