Right... so... what are your favourite vampire novels? Excluding any of Anne Rice's works, of course.

I still haven't read twilight, so I have to say L.J. Smith's Vampire Diaries.

panic_at_the_opera I still haven't read twilight, so I have to say L.J. Smith's Vampire Diaries. I know those. They're intersting enough. Just about clever enough to keep me entertained. Although Damon is sex. On legs. With fangs. The Nightworld Series by her is ok too. But a little... I dunno... Nancy Kilpatric writes some good short stories.

The Anita Blake series, They have a character that is very Lestat-ish except maybe a bit more sadistic.

Poppy Z Brites 'Lost Souls' is pretty good, actually. They're not your conventional vampires. For one, they're born and not turned. Then again, her vampires tend to eat their way out of their mothers...

I have not read any other vampire novel other than the vampire chronicles. I suppose when you are introduced to the world of vampires by Mrs. Rice finding another to match up to it is a rather difficult task. However I think I have heard of twilight though I do not remember what it was I heard about it. Anyways I am set until I finish Blood Canticle. I dread reading it and have postponed it for as long as I can. But for now I am slowly reading and enjoying Blackwood Farm. After I finish those two, who knows…

I know of several other authors that write excellent vampire novels. L.A Banks' Huntress series is awesome as well as Sherrilyn Kenyon tho her books are based on a slightly different premise they are still a great read. There's also Nina Bangs , Amanda Ashley , Laurell K hamilton , Micheal Romkey and Christine Feehan (although I'm not sure if her books would neccessarily fall under true vampires but they fit under the umbrella term) in any case JM2C.

Dmetre Poppy Z Brites 'Lost Souls' is pretty good, actually. They're not your conventional vampires. For one, they're born and not turned. Then again, her vampires tend to eat their way out of their mothers... I think Lost Souls was the biggest laugh I've read yet. Her vampires listen to the cure, touch themselves at the site of their hip bones, and have names like "NOTHING". It was awful. Infact, the first time I tried to read that book I threw it down (something I never do) and went back to Rice for awhile. It was only after I finished reading what was currently out from Rice that I tried to finish Lost Souls and even then I had to force myself to finish it. I just kept thinking that at some point it would have to get better. In my opinion it never really did.

The Power of the Blood Series By Nancy Kilpatrick Lost Souls by Poppy Z. Brite Children of the Night by Mercedes Lackey The Vampire Odyssey, The Wildlings, Parliament of Blood by Scott Ciencin There are so many, many, many more that I could include but for right now I'll just list some of my favorites that I love as much as The Vampire Cronicles.

LOL 'Twilight' will always have a special place in my heart. Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks that Edward Cullen is Lestat's protege (what with the 'only hunting the evildoer' for a while and all).
I really liked 'Salem's Lot' by Stephen King and 'Dracula' by Bram Stoker, which I read before the Vampire Chronicles, and I laughed when (in the IWTV movie), Louis said, "Those are merely the ravings of a mad Irishman."
