“Hurry up, would ya?” Leo whined.
A tall, dark skinned Fae yawned lazily and stretched. After complaining that this whole mess wasn’t even her concern for seven seconds she rose to her feet and flew outside.
“You ruined a perfectly good dream.” Adrienne snapped.
“What was it about?” Leo asked.
“Your demise, sweet brother.” Adrienne said with a curl of her lip.
The young siblings set out upon their journey. Five months ago every Fae in Liako was at the moonshine festival. The young ones were gawking at the jade colored moon while the elders were sipping nectar. Every year they gathered to celebrate this event, when the usually grey moon glazes green. It is a time for celebration and gladness. Or was. Last festival was going fine until the jade moon wasn’t jade anymore. Or white or any other color for that matter. The moon had vanished into the misty sky.
Adrienne and Leo were flying along in the forest when Leo asked a question.
“Why do you think the elders voted you and me to go find out why the moon disappeared?”
“Why do you think? Ever since Dad went cuckoo and Mom went away we’ve been living off everyone else. Oh they say their happy to take care of us…Yeah right. Their just happy to get rid us freeloaders.”
Adrienne looked down at her brother with disgust. How could he be so dumb? Ever since they left for their journey he’s been asking these questions. How this, why this. To others Adrienne might seem cruel, but she was just losing her patience.
The two kept flying in silence until they came upon a village. Upon further inspection, they discovered with repulsion it was a troll village. Trolls were hideous creatures. With a body covered in skin that resembles baked mud and various horns located around the body, trolls are usually avoided be most Fae. It was unfortunate that the travelers had recently run out of food.
“Uh oh” Leo mumbled.
“Let’s get on with it.” Adrienne said, though it didn’t sound like she wanted to get on with it very much.
They flew as discreetly as they could to the village square. Thankfully, they weren’t very noticeable anyway, because of some loud shouting and cheering in the center of the square.
Leo was very curious about the noise. Adrienne, however wished she could get away as fast as possible.
“Leo, how much money do we have?"
“Let me check”, Leo checked his pouch, “umm, 7 silver filors, why?”
“Give me the money.”
“Hey no!” Leo flew off, and then went to the loud clamor in the square.
Leo found that he and his sister weren’t the only Fae in the troll village. Tied up in a crude pen was a young Fae, around Leo’s age, with fiery curls and beautiful emerald wings, though at the moment Leo couldn’t appreciate her beauty, for the noise was getting louder.
“I’ll give yer tree whole filors fer her!” a troll said.
“Nar, he’s cheap! I’ll give yer four filors fer the lass.” said one particularly nasty troll.
“I’ll give yer six filors fer her!”
At this all the other trolls turned around to see a troll covered completely in muddy feathers. The troll looked around with a piercing glare, and the other trolls quickly stopped bidding. Leo however, who couldn’t think clearly anyway, wasn’t intimidated by the feathered troll. In a wavering, frightened voice Leo spoke.
“I’ll give you seven filors for her.”
