There's been some controversy over recent Gaia changes, and I wanted to get guild input.

Namely, user-run banks and the navigation system.

It recently turned out that several user-run banks, like lottos and charities, were scams. Because of this, the mods shut down all user-run banks. As if that wasn't bad enough, they only required the banks to refund the initial investement - not any of the interest. Which means that many people were out a lot of gold. In the case of the RPOG bank, any interest ever withdrawn from the bank was subtracted from your initial investement (I lost 120k in interest, plus had 40k of interest I had withdrawn subtracted from what I got back).

For the navigation system, many Firefox users and users of the Gaia toolbar found that they could no longer access the site without going through the Gaia A through Z (myself included).

What do you guys think of these changes?

I actually never knew about the user-run banks, how did that work?

And I have firefox but it didn't mess mine up...Although I really hate how it takes so long sometimes just to move the mouse in the right way to click on something (my mouse is actually really messing up lately, every now and then the ball falls out)

User-run banks would hire exchangers to make more gold. Every so often (for my bank, 10 days), users would recieve a certain percentage interest on their account.

User-run banks just need to die... and that's the truth. If they could be use for mass scams just kill them.

Lottos are used for mass scams. And many charities are large scams, too.

Kill 'em all? sweatdrop

Yeah....

But with lottos you aren't even guaranteed anything back... [therefore it is not massive money stealing because you aren't really expecting anything back.

And a true charity gives and doesn't ask for things... [therefore they can not scam]

People donate to charities. It's a very old scam. Open a charity, make the thread look nice, ask for donations to get the charity started. Once you have those, make a mule. Post in the charity thread as the mule. Donate to the mule. Close the charity due to low funds.

With lottos, someone is guaranteed something back. There has to be a winner. But there have been lotto scams since lottos began where the "winner" is a mule of the owner or where the owner just runs with the gold.

Banks have been around since at least early '04. I personally don't think that just closing all of them down is a good idea.

But with Banks everyone is expect to get their money back.... plus some.

With lotto..... it's rare that you where ever gonna get your money back.... (and most lotto are super cheap... Like 100g a ticket)

Charities shouldn't ask for donation. I owned a super popular charity once upon a time and me and my crew never asked anyone for monies. They donated when they wanted to.
