Hello everybody and welcome to Catal, the school for the magically ungifted. This is a structured roleplay in that there are events that will happen that can not be controled by anyone. These events will be denoted in the school paper, The Catalyst. I will also post in the thread when these events take effect.

The Rules

1) Follow the TOS and guild rules.
2) No cybering.
3) Please do not use too much violence and do not kill some innoncent guy off until you have their approval.
4) No, you cannot rise from the dead or go back in time. No godmoding.
5) "Events" take precedence over your own story arcs, so please find a way to incorporate the two.
6) It is preferable, if you have to leave, to invent some way out (ie your character goes to the bathroom, etc.), but I know how hard that is and will not enfore the rule.
7) Please be as literate as possible. Also make it apparent what you are saying, thinking or doing. Please put actions not in ((...)) or anything equivalent.

The World:

It really sucks to be "ungifted". Its sucks even more when most of the world is magical and you (and probably about one percent of the population, a very small minority by the way) don't even have enough juice to burn a piece of bread (which is the defining spell between gifted and not).

In a world similar to ours, but oh so different, people who do not have the magical skills are thrust into a secluded community, shunned by society, and feared like a plague. Yet despite the efforts of the government and society to seclude these individuals, more and more children are discovered to be "ungifted". Why is that so? What is happening to the world? Where has all the magic gone?

The School:

Despite the fear surrounding the "ungifted", some people have looked past discrimination and magical differences and have tried to unite the two populations. Many famous (and unfamous) people have tried to help with this. Programs were offered, events made, and legislations passed, but no idea has worked as well as the one Dr. J. J. Therman, has come up with. What was his bright idea you say? Well, it was to make a school that incorporates everyone, gifted or not, and help them promote peace and understanding.

Thus came into exsistence, this proud establishment, the Catal School. Though mainly "ungifted" people reside in this school (thus it is dubbed the school for the ungifted), there is a number of magical people, both students and staff, who reside in this school.

The school is like a boarding school. It has dormitories, dining commons, gyms, etc. It also has a welcoming atmosphere and a caring staff. This is a great thing to have, especially when things are just going to get worse from here on out...

The Encyclopedia
There are a lot of terms, etc. that are probably unfamilar to you. So I have made an encyclopedia of terms and other short stories to guide your understanding.

The Burntus Toastus Spell: This is the defining spell between gifted and not. All you have to do is take a piece of bread and burn it till it becomes toast. All children from a magical family are required to do this before admittance to school (at about age 5). This is usually an easy test for those who are gifted and can still be accomplished by those who are low in magic. Many have debated about the use of this spell as the definition of magical or not, because some creatures have trouble with this spell (yet they are clearly magical). One example is the Merpeople, who have trouble with any magic relating to fire. Thus they have developed their own system of determining magical content.

The head mistress strolled to the platform in the auditorium. "Welcome," she said to the students, "To another year at Catal!" Cheers arose from the center and spread like wildfire throughout the crowd of people. She waited for it to quiet down.

"As you all know, our school has a long standing tradition of love and understanding that stretches to all of the people, gifted or not. I hope that, as you embark on a new year at this school, you will not only learn mathematics and other subjects, but also the qualities that make us us. I hope that you will learn love, compassion, and tolerance. I hope that you will find meaning and understanding, and with such knowledge, I hope that you will go into our society and make the world a beautiful place. You, everyone of you, are our future and our hope. I know that you will all not let me down." She let her voice echo into the cavernous room.

She let the words sink in to her students before she began again, "Now that the speech part is over, I would like to introduce some of the staff." She went down the list of professors, "Finally, I would like to introduce to you our newest faculty member, Professor Welling." She watched as the new professor stood, looking shabby and rough. She sighed inwardly. Couldn't he have at least worn a tie?

She decided it was time to conclude the ceremonies, "That is the last of my notices and boring speeches," She smiled, "I bid all of you good luck. You are all dismissed now." All of the students piled out of the auditorum. She watched them go, knowing that this was not going to be an easy year.

Amy stood stationary by a large window viewing the outside. She hated being around so many people at once, it made her feel highly uncomfortable. So many faces she didn't recognize, Amy had left her dorm room not wanting to be there when her roomate finally showed up. Who knows, what if it happened to be someone gifted. She would just be tormented again like she was back home.

He plays a lot of sports and is really fit from it and hopes to play football for the school(if there is sports like that here). Chase is also extremely friendly and will be friends with anyone besides those whose descriminate.
