Yea I was guessing that it was ether Linux servers or a s**t load of windows servers, leaning more to the Linux side.

Plus it's owned by Rupert Murdoch. The less I have to do with ANYTHING owned by Mr. Fox News, the better.

MegaMechZX MySpace is just tooo slow. Gets me frustrating... Its mostly do to heavy server loads, and the fact that they have it hosted on Windows servers

Gaia runs a combo of linux distributions, including Gentoo Linux, CentOS, and Red Hat Fedora Core.
I believe I can take partial credit for their use of Gentoo linux, having had a detailed conversation about its merits a few years ago with one of their net admins, who was very impressed with it - he said he'd give it a try, and a few months later it started popping up on their new servers (if anybody remembers reinhart, it was running gentoo)
I might be able to get more specific information than what's above, but I'm not sure any more - it's been a very long time since I talked to that guy.

Thats an interesting thing to know, and I remember reinhart I use to use it several times until I forgot how to tell Gaia which server to connect you to crying . I didn't know that it was running Gentoo though, all I know is that if was one of the faster and more reliable servers Gaia had.

You can't any more. Their gateway servers RR the request internally to the cluster. Best you can do is set up a hosts file or DNS entry to direct the main www and avatar and s subhosts to a specific gateway, but all the gateways are pretty solid these days. All running the same build, etc.
