A strange bird swooped low in a strange land. Its red-tipped feathers glistened in the fading light, as the sun set over the far horizon and storm clouds rolled in from the east. The bird dove through a light fog towards the water below, expertly sliding into an effortless freefall, carefully avoiding the crumbling ruins, intently advancing upon its unsuspecting prey. It suddenly let out a squawk, however, and clumsily altered its course to alight upon a larger ruin sticking out of the clear water. An unexpected movement had taken it off guard. For on the rock upon which the bird was now perched, stirred a young fuzzy.

Jamie's head ached. Hell, his whole body ached. He couldn’t remember ever being in so much pain. With his eyes closed, he carefully twitched his tail, then fluttered his wings. He moved his forearms and legs and, after concluding that nothing was broken, raised his head and opened his eyes. Where am I? He’d never seen a place like this. Jamie had been washed ashore on what appeared to be a ruin of some sort that stuck up halfway out of the water. There were uncountable other such ruins, all scattered about in a great expanse of crystal clear water that stretched in all directions as far as the eye could see.

Still bewildered, Jamie raised himself up until he was sitting as comfortably as possible. He took a deep breath and yelled, “Anybody there? Haiiro! Hey!” Only thunder in the distance answered him. The flutter of wings at his shoulder startled him, as the bird that had been perched there took flight. He watched it climb steadily into the air and fly towards a cluster of ruins that was much larger than the ones strewn about him, where the sky was dark and lightning flashed behind the walls. Well, at least one of us knows where he’s going, Jamie thought ruefully. With one last glance around him, Jamie labored to his feet and stretched, feeling the tension slowly lift from his limbs. He felt as if he’d been pummeled by a mutant fuzzy. He was also cold and hungry.

Once he felt that his muscles were loose enough, Jamie clumsily hopped from one protruding stone to the next. He didn't know how to fly yet, so his hops were only slightly supplemented as he fluttered his wings. He took in his surroundings as he went, but everything looked the same: nothing but half-submerged piles of rubble on either side.

Then something caught Jamie's eye: a sparkle in the water. He was about to dismiss it as a stray bubble, but he some how felt drawn to it. He stepped to the very edge of the stone he was standing on, and put his nose as close to the water as he could get without getting himself wet. Hmmm... It was indeed a bubble, but it was like no ordinary bubble Jamie had ever seen. First off, it was black, and it also had several smaller orbs attached to it on either side. If he leaned just a bit further, he might be able to reach it...

"Would you look at that" a female voice said, coming from the fields leading up to the ruins. A woman, aged around twenty, closed in on the site, carrying in her arms a curled up ball of fluff. It didn't respond, but it was still a baby, nevertheless this woman talked to it as she progressed. "Antubis, it's a ruin, I wish you could see this" she continued to say, finally arriving at the borders of the ruin she mentioned. Not yet had she seen there was another presence and so she wandered through the piles of bricks towards the river.

"Whoa, whoa!," Jamie exclaimed loudly, as he lost his balance and tumbled into the water. He scrambled underwater, trying to right himself, and paddled to keep his head above water. With a gasp, he was able to crawl back onto the ruin. Jamie shook himself all over, freeing most of the water and leaving his hair looking very poofy. With a start, he looked back into the water where the bubble had been, but it was gone.

Oh no, I must have popped it... Jamie thought sadly. He sat down and rolled his shoulders in dismay. Something felt very sticky behind his shoulder blades... "What the--?" He turned his head as much as he could, standing with the effort, trying to see what was stuck on him. With an exclaimation of surprise and happiness, he saw that the bubble had stuck in his fur, right between his wings.

Jamie did a little jig for happiness that he hadn't popped the bubble, but stopped abruptly, afraid that he may still break it. He lay down very slowly, so as not to disturb it. He turned his head to speak to it. "Alright, little buddy, looks like you're stuck with me now. Get it? 'Stuck'?" He chuckled at his own joke. He soon grew serious though. "Now, if only you could tell me where I am..."

As if in response to the sound of Jamie's voice, the little bubble on his back began to wiggle. Jamie jumped up, thinking he had disturbed it somehow, as he tried to see what was happening. The bubble continued to squirm, and all at once it burst.

With a small coo, the baby water wolf looked out at the world from behind the wings of the fuzzy. Her large eyes blinked slowly at the sudden brightness that now encompassed her. She tweaked her ears and peered at the large creature she sat upon. "Mama!" She said with a squeak.

Jamie rolled his shoulders, and the small creature on his back rolled down his front leg, landing with a small plop on the ground. She immediately rolled off the ruin into the water, and floated there looking up at him. "Wow, you're a cute one," Jamie said with a smile. "But I'm not your mom." He lay down again, peering right back at the baby.

Oblivious to what Jamie was saying, the water wolf repeated,
"Mama!" She swam in a small circle, then jumped up out of the water and squirted Jamie with a mouth full of it. She giggled and cooed.

With a small scowl, Jamie wiped the water from his face. "Alright, that's enough of that. I said I'm not your mom, so just swim along now, little one." He reached into the water and gently swatted the thing away from him.

The water wolf was pushed quite a ways away by the swat, and turned back to Jamie with tear filled eyes.

"Oh, no, don't do that,"
Jamie told it.

The water wolf let out an ear-piercing scream, which slowly dwindled into a just as noisy sobbing fit.

"Crap," Jamie said, as he scrambled to his feet. He hopped onto several smaller ruins to get closer to the baby. "Alright, alright already! Quit that, you're going to draw attention," He said as he approached it, trying to soothe it but to no avail.

The water wolf continued to wail, unperturbed by Jamie's pleas.

When Jamie reached the ruin right next to the babe, he lay down and put his paw into the water. "Shhhh, it's alright. I'm sorry, okay? I didn't mean to hit you that hard." He was feeling really bad by now. He stroked the baby's ears underwater, which seemed to quiet it a little.

The water wolf quit her wailing, with only a few hiccups to show for it. She looked up at Jamie with big, sorrowful eyes.

Jamie had a soft heart, and couldn't bear to resist that face. "Alright, I guess you're stuck with me, seeing as you seem to be alone here. But you'll need a name..." He paused for a moment, then smiled at her. "Since your fur is black, how about we name you for the night? From here on out, you will be known as Semira."

Though she understood nothing of this, Semira cooed and smiled, and squeaked once more, "Mama!"

The sound of cries reached Emmilyn's ears, she looked down at the ball of fur in her arms and said to it "Wonder what's going on there, let's see, shall we?" and to her utmost surprise, the little fox peeped his head out from his tails and looked up at her, his eyes alert and slightly frightened. But why wouldn't it be, it was the first time he took in his surroundings and he wasn't at the place he knew best by smell, the Bunny Luv field. He cowered against Emmilyn and when the cry came again he was gone. Emmilyn found her arms empty and she gave out a small shriek. "Antubis!?" she cried on her own as the unknown cries ceased.

Antubis had teleported away out of fear and was even more afraid when he appeared behind a pile of rubble and couldn't see or smell his caretaker. The small fox tried desperately to form words to put into Emmilyn's mind, but failed to find them. Instead he send an image, namely what he saw and to avail. Emmilyn found the small fox and lifted it from the ground. "There you are, don't scare my like that again, please?" Emmilyn told the small fox.

Her eyes lingered over her surroundings until she spotted the two creatures, presumably where the cries came from. Emmilyn held Antubis protectively as she approached them slowly.
