Dictionary Swallowing – the Revival In the books forum, there was a thread called ‘Dictionary Swallowing for Fun and Profit’; some of you may have seen it, some may not. The idea was to post obscure, archaic, and strange words, for the entertainment, and benefit of others.
Things that qualify:
Archaic & forgotten words that should be remembered Words & phrases with unusual origins Words for concepts so strange and esoteric you didn’t realise there was a word for it (but keep it clean, PG 13) Words that have changed meanings over the years – what they mean now, and what they used to mean
Here’s a start:Plutocrat n A person whose status or power is based on, or dependent on their wealth.Antediluvian n
1. Of or belonging to the period before the Flood. (Genesis, Chapter 7, Verse 8.) 2. Very Old, Old-Fashioned, Out of Date, Antiquated, Primitive 3. Someone who lived before the Flood. 4. An old or old-fashioned person/object/idea.
Now post away with your own. And I encourage everyone to read the Dictionary next time they're bored. Seriously, just grab it, flip it open on a random page, and start looking for interesting words to expand your vocabulary - you never know when a word you discover may come in useful.

to throw through or out of the window; "The rebels stormed the palace and defenestrated the President."

I actually used the word 'mellifluous' yesterday. Mellifluous - sweetly flowing.
